Easter egg/bug hunting edition

This is as close as we get to a public beta release candidate before easter, so have fun with it, hunt down and report problems here and in the beta forum.

Oh, and if you use a Mac, there's another egg to be found. Hint: You need a remote control.

Some of the changes:
  • Fixed widget crash in in 16-bit/24-bit resolutions
  • Fixed crash caused by corrupted language files
  • Fix crash when resetting a form with a fieldset inside
  • Fixed bug with some archive files opened blank
  • Fixed bug where width calculation of images in Java-Script doesn't work
  • Fixed flash crasher
  • Fixed Bit Torrent crash and leak when resuming a torrent with one file missing
  • Fixed a couple of memory leaks

Still no fix on the search bar not being highlighted when clicked... Instead it just puts the carot wherever you clicked when it's supposed to highlight whatever is in it, like when you click on the address bar

Great, a new Version at Friday. Now I hope the Chrash of Operas Print-Process will be fixed when I use the Print Preview at a site with frames. :wink:

On http://derstandard.at middle-click in the middle iframe and try to auto scroll, it doesn't work. I have the Linux version (of course I enabled auto scrolling in the settings). Though, on Windows Opera doesn't seem to have a problem with this.

On a related note: there's still the bug, that when you enforce horizontal scrollbars by zooming in, you can't auto scroll to the right hand side (Unix version).

PS: Please adjust the speed of auto scrolling on Unix Opera to be the same as on the Windows version.

Heres a bug (or UI inconsistancy) i found:

When you context-click a text link that links to a file (such as an exe or a video, you get an option that is called "Save to download folder".
ex: Text link to file .mpg


However, when you get the same link but the link shows as a picture instead of text, you get the old "Quick Download" option.

I think it will be a good idea if I can adjust the transparency-level of the Widgets-background.

I use a router (I don't know whether it is a problem) but in the download tab I'm always getting false and irreal times. Eg: 400000 days (+/-1 :D)

I can't use the arrow keys in the wand dialog box.

In this verion the Flash player is not bundled. Ok, it's not a problem to download but I don't understand, either.

I didn't find how to use my current window to open the session in the same one. So, when I open a new session I get a new Opera window instead of using the current.

I didn't find how to use a new tab for my searches for example for the Dictionary. I type the word to the Dictionary and the page load in the same tab. How to have the Search boxes opened a new tab?

Good news that bugs are being fixed one by one!

BTW, will ever Opera support opening saved email .mbs (or .eml) messages? That would be very nice! :smile:

Using Mac build:

When editing keyboard shortcuts, I example type "Ctrl Left" and add action switch previous page, but Opera replaces this "Command Left" for me. Note, the correct shortcut would be "Meta Left". At the moment it changes the key I wanted to use, not fixed the correct spelling for the key.

Bug that I see at install- MSI Installer offers:
a. Upgrade (bla-bla-bla) and path "C:\Program Files\Opera 9 Beta"
b. (bla-bla-bla)

BUT! My Opera path is NOT "...\Opera 9 Beta"!! it's "...\Opera 9" so I cant upgrade!!! WHY?

PS. previous Opera version 9.00 Build 8333 Platform Win32

PPS. Why not to make BackUP file? so users should save all settings, mail, notes, bookmarks in one file, and then restore all from it? (like for example in TheBAT!)

1. Alpha-transparency for PNGs still not supported when printing.
(tested only in Windows 95)
2. Icons in Error-console are wrong-sized in 'Windows native' skin.

Widget crashing is fixed, on the bug I raised (203190), but I am not running 16bit or 24bit colour depth. I am running on a widescreen laptop display, 1280 x 800 @32bpp..

When will it possible again to change the path to the profile-folder if I use a Singel-User-Installation? Please help to patch this bug. :D

opera does not remember rss feed sort field. say for example i sort the feeds based on 'sent' field to enable display of latest feed on top instead of bottom. next time i see any feed it still displays oldest on top and newest feed on bottom. could this be fixed.

@szotsaki2: 8.53 and 8.54 were both released partially because of security problems with the Flash plug-in. We'd prefer not to release a new version of Opera every time there's a problem with Flash.

@reporteur: You can already import MBS files. Do you mean by double-clicking from a file manager? That would be possible, but would be somewhat complicated since you have to choose an account to import to and such. If you have some ideas about how it should work, please post in the wishlist forum.

@dimoon: I can't reproduce. Would you please post a forum topic in the Mac forum with details.

Man You guys keep pounding out new builds at a rate that is hard to follow.

I have just tried this rich text editor:

It is public domain, and apparently programmed well, since I didn't have to mask Opera as IE or Mozilla to make it run.

I am happy! Finally rich text editing is possible in Opera!

@Junyor: I was talking about quick open function "File -> Open..." for just viewing single-message .mbs file that was saved within Opera. I am sorry but I consider it a design-bug, as providing an option to save single email message to a file and not giving an opportunity to open it is a very confusing and misleading, especially for novice users. Have you ever seen the way OE and TB open .eml files for viewing/printing without importing into account?

A tip:
When you file a bug, click on the emailadres of the bug and save it as a "draft"
Or block select the adres an click the right mouse button and save it to your notes.

The SSL bug still seems to be present.

Navigation menu items at one of the most popular bank in Poland mBank should be positioned vertically not horizontaly.

Please do something to fix this problem.

As I know this is beacause of missing start < tr> tags, but older Opera versions (8.5x for example) displays it verticaly.

Bug:
  • go to corel.com (you will be redirected to home page)
  • try go back (blank page will appear)

P.S. To make this bug "works" you need first to choose country and proceed, close page and open corel.com again.
P.P.S. This is not a Opera 9 bug... it "works" back to Opera 7. Opera 6 when you go back actually show initial "choose country page".

@Junyor: I see, this is apparently an architecture limitation and one would have to perform multistep non-user friendly operations... Anyway Opera is my favourite browser and email client, thanks to all Opera software engineers and supporting staff.

When using a native skin (tried with Tango Native and the default Windows Native skins), I cannot click in the textfield of the weather widget (the textbox where you put your zip code). Attempting to click in the textbox to focus it just registers as a click in an empty space and closes the widget view.

Using Mac Build:

I'm finding that video window consruction with WMP plug-in/Flash8 at CNN remains broken since v9.0tp1.

o Click on any video link at CNN
o WMP video will open in child window, plays fine
o Click "browse" at upper right to show list of other videos to play, and WMP plug-in area does NOT refresh...

Wow, seriously, this is a version that really deserves "beta" status... some old minor bugs for me, but overall... great :smile:
Now I started migrating from version 8 to 9, because 9 is even a bit faster than 8 (I couldn't believe that there is something faster than Opera 8 - but hey, what else than Opera should beat Opera? :smile: ), content blocking is great and I love the minor things you fixed or added.

Well done, Opera devs :smile:

EDIT: Wow, just discovered that widgets lose their task bar field when being "always on top" - VERY nice. Now just make the disturbing "pin" disappear when not in widget space and I will praise you as gods :wink:

EDIT 2: Not that I have zero errors with Opera Build 8359, but I thought I could spend a bit of commendation to those who deserve it - the Opera developers.

The page thumbnail that appeared as a tooltip when hovering the tabs is gone even if 'Use Thumbnails in Tab Tooltips' in opera:config is checked. Can anyone confirm so I can fire a bug report?
