Crash while I used the Pandora Widget (Flash) with Opera minimized.
After restart Pandora+Opera is working again.

crash-data:
AppName: opera.exe AppVer: 9.0.8367.0 ModName: opera.dll
ModVer: 9.0.8367.0 Offset: 0046ce00

C:\DOKUME~1\CHRIST~1\LOKALE~1\Temp\e6a8_appcompat.txt

I failed to find the log and did not copy the content (next time I'll try to be better).

system data:
WinXP home SP2 on Centrino Notebook
Macromedia Flash Player Version 8.0.22.0
Outpost Firewall (there are some blocks of outgoing Opera-traffic)

fanel 11. April 2006, 22:17

Opera crash if I try any mouse gesture in any Widget.

MihLab 11. April 2006, 22:21

@Junyor:
Yes, if Java disabled - all good with Flash, but I want Java..

I use JRE SE 5.0 Update 6 and JDK SE 5.0 Update 6, Netbeans MobilityPack 5.0, WIN2K3 SP1...

>>Have you filed a bug report
No...

Rijk 11. April 2006, 22:22

@Zajec:

Those are nasty problems you've found. But unless you can identify a more-or-less important website that hangs Opera as a result of this, fixes might come after a beta release.

Yngve Nysæter Pettersen 11. April 2006, 22:26

Eddie1506: SOCKS support with full proxy configuration requires, as far as I can tell, complete internal implementation, inside Opera, of the protocol (both versions), including all the relevant authentication methods.

That puts the job is in same complexity class as implementing a fullsize cryptographic protocol like SSL. And that one took a year to get shippable.

IOW: Adding SOCKS is not a 5 minute job, nor is it a 5 week job.

You may get the impression that it is a simple job when you read the documentation of some implementations, but AFAICT those implementations does not allow the application to choose the proxy on a connection by connection basis (which is required by Automatic Proxy Configuration), it have to accept whatever is configured for the system.

And no, I am NOT making any statements about whether or not SOCKS will be supported sometime, I am only saying that implementing it, if we decide to support it, will be a major project.

Workaround (if it isn't too old): http://www.opera.com/support/search/supsearch.dml?index=194

Robert Maupin 11. April 2006, 22:28

At this rate of progression, you'll have a new one out everyday, personally thats like christmas.. every.. single.. day.. :D

Anybody else with the "waiting #1" bug? I'm getting it on the last 3 builds. Restarting Opera is the only fix.

Tim Altman 11. April 2006, 23:22

@Vygi: Please report specific widget problems by adding a comment to the Widget page at http://my.opera.com/community/customize/widgets/. The pin icon is going to stay put for now.

@YtseJam: Please file a bug report.

@M_Yoda: That web site seems fine to me.

@Svoboda, ResearchWizard, or fanel: Please file a bug report.

mouse-gestures above widgets bug reported
bug-203999

Master Yoda 12. April 2006, 00:41

@Junyor: Did you wait a few refreshes? Because here its costant behaviour on every build and it doesn't happen on internet explorer. It gets blank too when clicking on a link intermittently, it just goes to the page but blank, I have to reload twice to load the link. I've tried every identify and mask options to no avail.
What else can I do?
Could some of you guys here test it too? Remember to wait a few auto refreshes! www.oglobo.globo.com
Thx

Recursion: Spatial navigation keys

In Opera 8.* versions there is couple of highlighting actions that help user navigate between links and form elements in current viewed webpage.
Some of them even have shortcuts by default:

Cycle through links in page (Q and A) Highlight previous/next URL,
Cycle through headers in page (S and W) Highlight previous/next heading,
Cycle through elements in page (D and E) Highlight previous/next element,
Not responding in Opera 9 TP1 and above versions!!!, Highlight previous/next block

Last mentioned action is missing default keyboard shortcuts. So I customize keyboard setup to satisfy my requirements. Personally I’m using R and F keyboard shortcuts respectively.
For some reason in Opera 9 TP1 and above versions this action doesn’t respond at all to customizations.

This is really nice way to cycle through whole blocks in page where you simultaneously need text to be highlighted; maybe in combination with voice feature, or whatever; specially if page is not following web standards. And we all know that WEB is full of them. It is also faster way of doing it then cycle through elements in page.

Please, I would like it back!

I have only recognition and thankfulness to Opera people for great product in general! I have been a user for a long time, and you never seized to surprise and astonish me or other funs! Great job!

searchme 12. April 2006, 01:04

On the whole, the new (linux) stylesheet works very well, right out of the box. Love it. Questions:

1. Does rss stylesheet mean mime.css?

2. Add: http://www.juancole.com/rss.xml. Compare Friday: Wounded US Troops. ... with Friday: Breaking News: 78 dead. They look the same in html, but not in plain text. This is one of the curiosities I've been trying to solve: missing summary in plain text version. I don't see any obvious difference in the website posts.

Michael Thompson 12. April 2006, 01:07

This Version of Opera is using 25% of CPU all the time. Even when minimized.

Tim Altman 12. April 2006, 01:11

@M_Yoda: I waited for several minutes and checked it periodically.

@searchme: RSS and Atom are styled by mime.css, yes.

syplex 12. April 2006, 01:12

Is the back/forward speed issue going to be fixed before 9.0 is released? On 8.53 and earlier I have never noticed this problem... it almost appears as if Opera is GET/POST'ing when I hit BACK or FORWARD! One of the primary reasons to use Opera is the speed of flipping back and forward, the saving of form data between back/forward, speed of rendering, etc.

I used to be able to click through half a dozen pages of history with gestures in a second, now it takes several seconds just for one! Anyone else have this problem?

Eddie1506 12. April 2006, 01:12

@yngve Thanks for the explanation...

I never thought that Opera would use system configured SOCKS proxy. Ofcourse it has to be implemented inside Opera.

But, aren't there any free/open source implementations allready out there that you can implement in Opera?

Hugo Pessotti 12. April 2006, 02:01

Any workaround to fix the "Opera Directory" bug present in [User Prefs?]

venky 12. April 2006, 02:39

@yngve / @junyor / anybody@opera
Will mail headers other than the ones in the current list be displayed on the mail header toolbar? This is very useful for people who're using external filters that add information to the headers, and for people who have spam filters at their mail provider. Also, will filter rules ever support arbitrary headers?

g4qb 12. April 2006, 02:44

HeeZy 12. April 2006, 04:46

i think i found a bug with the widgets. if any, "Native" skin is used, ie. Windows Native, then you can't enter any text into a widget's form fields.

-click Tools>Apperance>Skin>Windows Native>OK

-load the weather widget and try to enter your zip code. it doesn't work.

-load the Opera Standard skin and try to enter your zip code in weather widget. it works.

-load windows native skin and you can't enter text in weather widget.

i also tested this with the touchthesky widget. can someone test this.?

thanx!!

Anil 12. April 2006, 05:12

Looks good, but I am yet to test it out. No NTLM yet.
I can browse http sites with NTLM proxy, but for https, it keep askign the password again and again....

These bugs were found on popular web pages.

1) Bug 202534
Found on page http://www.madboxpc.cl/ and reported on forum. I only made a minimal testcase.

2) Bug 203085
Found on page http://www.routenplanung.de/ and also reported on forum. I again made a testcase to make your work easier.

ViJu 12. April 2006, 05:45

Hello. Can anybody say to me why http://live.com don't works in opera even opera9 and works perfectly in firefox. I known it could be better answer this question to microsoft.

I love Opera!

Terry 12. April 2006, 06:38

Still no fix for the cookies and site specific preferences hookup problem? Come on guys!

Markus 12. April 2006, 07:18

I can confirm cranil7's comment, https via NTLM is not working. Authentication request again and again and again...

And via "normal" http I have another small problem (I am answering via IE here!): The last and this build work at least with NTLM, but for whatever reason, they don't complete any page... The status bar always look like "Document 100% | Images X/X | Speed X KB/s | Time ..." and so on.

Because of the rendering behaviour Opera is using, some sites, like this blog, are totally mixed up then. Opera would normally put the site "to normal order" when finished loading, but because it doesn't... Looks awful, is a pain in the neck!

But I am happy that I can use it for at least 30% of the websites I visit. It's a start.

Rijk 12. April 2006, 08:08

@pessotti:
A simple workaround is to have multiple installations of Opera, instead of one install running with multiple profiles.

@ViJu:
Read about live.com in Opera here: http://my.opera.com/hallvors/blog/show.dml/191963

@Zajec:
Thanks. Prioritizing is helped by knowing where this shows up, but your minimal testcases where excellent anyway
I could hardly believe anyone would try percentage widths for borders, as these are non valid according to the CSS specs and not supported by any browser (except Opera 3.50, a few months in 1999, until that bug was fixed in Opera 3.51).

Thomas Ballmann 12. April 2006, 08:49

Stability fixes ?

Bug http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=117699 has not been fixed :frown:

HKG 12. April 2006, 09:20

The changelog says Gmail view is fixed. But I get multiple scrollbars, message list thrown to the edge, much high list spacing and more. This has been visible in the last three builds.

Also Gmail frequently crashes Opera when javascript is enabled. I've filed crash reports.

Another thing is the badly aligned buttons in Yahoo mail. The Compose, Check mail buttons are placed in a vertical spacing rather than the horizontal mode. After attaching files, you return to find that the email composing body (if it was blank) is not visible (perhaps reduced to a 1x1 px dot).

Is anybody else experiencing the same? Will these be fixed before the Beta?

Christian 12. April 2006, 09:24

Different behaviour of widgets:
the pinned widgets don't show up when I use the "OperaWidgets" tab. Instead they have an own task bar tab. (I think something like that was wanted in former weekly's comments).

Nevertheless I would have expected they show up, when I use "OperaWidgets" tab (just for consistency, doesn't really matter to me).
What I really dislike is the WindowsXP behaviour of grouping the task bar tabs from Opera - the Widgets are treated as instances of Opera. Additionally with ALT+TAB the shown icons for the widgets are different, there is not the red Opera-O (like in the task bar), but white windows with blue frames (looks like a command line window).

Dickie 12. April 2006, 09:39

Page thumbnail has not worked for me for the last couple of releases, although the Ctrl + Tab key function does show thumbnails.

Otherwise no issues to report, and I can finally send emails through NTLM

Christian 12. April 2006, 10:20

System Color Scheme was displayed like Sand Color Scheme (I have definitely no Sand color on my WinXP, it is Windows Standard).

Seems like Opera selected first S (from Sand) instead of S from System.

RS 12. April 2006, 10:27

@Michael83815, hmm that is odd. I have 2 tabs open and max and this is what I see.

Pardon me dude, but I mean putting the Star icon in the address field, near RSS icon, right? Check this post...Also please tell me if Opera team has a plan for things that i mentioned in this post (consider my 5th post, which i updated things)...thanks.

Huh? It must be some other stylesheet what you mean. I can still see the raw xml output when trying to subscribe to a feed. This needs a nice css too

FataL:

I tried once.

I even build a CSS design that relied on it, which looked nice in Opea 3.50. I was a bit annoyed they found the spec more important than my site  Especially as it was a nice way to make a fluid design with borders that actually added up to 100% width.

MrFrodo 12. April 2006, 12:42

Still not fully fixed:

bug 187336

Menus drop down over Flash, but cannot be used. Moving mouse down expanded menu causes menu to disappear behind Flash.
