Let's test some Beta:)

TommyTommy2k4 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:06:38 PM

Still no searchbox highlighting fix (this sounds like something that would be so easy to fix?), and still a crash when closing the tab when the megaupload.com popup is loading (why not get rid of that popup as a way to fix it smile )

Scott Graybansgrayban Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:17:13 PM

Still no socks4/5 support sad

Is there any clear answer on this? Will it ever be coded in or are the developers just ignoring this mass requested feature?

Idan AdarYtseJam Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:29:32 PM

There was a clear answer regarding socks support by Junyor in the previous Desktop Team post if I remember correctly.

It was said that Opera 9 will not have socks support, go and check...

Jakub81 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:30:20 PM

Using mouse gestures over widgets still crashes the browser.

DandsDandS Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:31:49 PM

The most stable version EVER.

Cache erros are minimal now.

Congrats!! =)

Egorgorsov Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:37:03 PM

Are you really sure you won't fix this?
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=132805

Alienz Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:37:33 PM

I really like to see searchbox highlighting and visited link always cleared when opera restart fixed.

Joey WaghWajo357 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:47:47 PM

gmail still crashes Opera when restarting the browser with the gmail tab automatically loading as well as many others (6+)

Ar1Pear1pe Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:54:28 PM

Thanks again bigsmile

Espen B. AnderssonEspenA Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:58:17 PM

"You must restart your system for the configuration changes made to Opera 9.0 to take effect. Click Yes to restart now or No if you plan to restart later".

Why on earth do I get this message after installing this build with the MSI Installer? Do I really have to restart my computer after installation Opera 9?

Sushubh Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:01:47 PM

let's see if this is a memory hog...

Animatrix Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:06:30 PM

The Gmail'RSS always crash on Unix/Linux
Is-it possible that ^ ¨, will be correct before the final version ?

Bill PBill_P Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:14:49 PM

How can you be close to a beta when I (and others) can't log into the 2 most popular web based email systems - yahoo and hotmail

And any chance filters will once again work in newsgroups (currently only if I manually 'filter existing') though newsfeeds and mail work fine

Unix 240 under Suse 10.1beta

But I must say this has been a real stable set of previews and the weekly builds are most appreciated

Hermenhermen2048 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:18:44 PM

Fast-back is fixed - hurray!

No problems logging in to Yahoo nor Hotmail here.

Helena Polovinčákováhelenka Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:19:58 PM

Mac only build (bug in about latest four builds)
click on the Download link in the message about new version, my opera isn't responding and I must kill it.
Downloading from header works well. It's only sometimes... :-( (I know it's the same link, but it does.)

porneL Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:22:48 PM

On upgrading from TP2:
* skin color theme was reset to default (tested OS X)
* tab preferences switched to open new windows and show buttons on tabs (tested OS X and Windows)

Tim AltmanJunyor Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:25:25 PM

One additional change left out of the changelog is a fix for problems when deleting and moving IMAP messages.

@Tommy2k4: What's the bug number for that crash? The search highlight fix won't be in the beta.

@sgrayban: See Yngve's comment at http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/216266?startidx=50.

@Jakub81: We know.

@reporteur: That will not be fixed in the beta.

@Alienz: They will be. Just not yet.

Marcelo Volmaromvolmaro Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:25:54 PM

HTML mails (viewed as html) with attachments don´t show the images. Also, if i switch to text view, the images don´t appear as attachments...

JensusUT Tuesday, April 18, 2006 7:32:27 PM

The Copy&Paste-Bug in vB is back sad
Copy a text more than 3-4 rows and paste it in a vB forum thread box. All page returns are cut off.
Example: http://www.imerx.net/content/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=3&Itemid=10&lang=en

Aaronm4v1s Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:02:15 PM

Still reports error when specifying the port without http:// or www.

"
The address type is unknown or unsupported

google.com:80
"

Very stable release
THANKS

TommyTommy2k4 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:14:35 PM

@Junyor: bug-203838 (megaupload crash)

Ranjan Groverrgrover Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:16:27 PM

y'know there wasn't that much a leap between opera's v7 and v8 but v9 is blowing my mind everyday!

Thanks for an awesome web browser. You guys rule!

omeow Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:20:23 PM

Still no word on how the widget area is supposed to work when Opera is used on a computer with multiple monitors.

Let's discuss this in this thread.

Svoboda Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:21:30 PM

Please change the default selected button in wand dialog to 'Save' instead 'Not now', so that when I press Enter (as a possitive answer), the wand remembers the login. The Esc could be 'Not now'.
Otherwise it brakes the so far behavior of Opera

omeow Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:29:56 PM

Speaking of wand dialog, shouldn't it be possible to control the focused button by using the direction keys instead of just tab?

Is anyone else having problems with favicons in the feed menu? The one for A list apart doesn't show up for me.

Cheimy Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:37:20 PM

Good job

molenin Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:44:33 PM

Same problem with cookies on the localnet forums(192.168.x.x).
Login and password haven't kept. I dont't know why, but this trouble exist only in Opera 9.x.
Have you any idea?

I tried many builds of Opera 9 beta. No solutions sad

jackpea Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:47:16 PM

Flickr Notes still need fixing.

TommyTommy2k4 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 9:39:23 PM

Still bug where closing a tab opens a blank one, someone's probably already reported it

Teal_One Tuesday, April 18, 2006 9:44:51 PM

@Junyor (in hope to get this time an answer)

File - Print options... - Page margins
If you here enter a value greater than 1,50 (e.g. 2) then Opera takes 1,5 and not your value.

Don't know it's a known or wanted limitation but I don't see
the sense in it. Thanks for !any! informations about my problem.

System Information: Opera 9.00 Build 8367 on Windows XP SP1

stewie Tuesday, April 18, 2006 9:45:09 PM

tommy, that's no bug, if you're talking for when there is a single tab left... otherwise it's probably a bug..

TommyTommy2k4 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 9:55:59 PM

Nope it happens when I've got lots of tabs open. And doesn't happen every time.. I'll try and look into what causes it

Edit: Can't seem to replicate it at all now sad It always happened with the tab on the far right (most recently opened) so I guess until I can get it to happen again I'll assume that I had an extra blank tab open without noticing.

CaseySirCasey Tuesday, April 18, 2006 9:59:37 PM

There is still some kind of bug in the onClick / onSubmit handler that doesn't function the way that versions 7 and 8 all did, and IE and Firefox don't have the problem.

I know I'm just one person with one particular buggy site I use, but something changed in this version that made this bug show up.

Might there not also be other buggy sites that can't write their onSubmits and onClicks right?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

still bug in opera. sys: suse 9.0, blackbox 0.70.1

DWz Tuesday, April 18, 2006 10:06:03 PM

Can opera has "fix to window witdth" checkbox in F12-s site preferences menu?

And, still has a download problem, when file type "save to disk" with "do not ask for folder" is checked. It downloads only the first 3-4 kb, and then stops.

Thondhal Tuesday, April 18, 2006 10:20:54 PM

There seems still to be a problem with some pictures they open with different kinda of shapes, color, one part move to the other direction etc.

TommyTommy2k4 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 10:34:50 PM

The close tab is definately a bug, I can't replicate it very often (like 3 times out of 20) and not sure if there's any specific way to get it to happen but it definately does and I didn't have an extra blank tab open that I didn't notice.

Except it's always the tab on the far right (most recently opened) that I've tried it on

Guanyao Chenggyc Tuesday, April 18, 2006 10:44:15 PM

For the Mac version:

The latest weekly still freezes up at some websites that use flash (but not all websites) such as www.nbc.com.

Also the "fast back" doesn't seem to work on this version either. When I go back and forwards it's not instantaneous (like in version 8.5) and it seems like it redownloads everything.

I do appreciate Opera's decision to let us early adopters try out the newest builds however.

Kc4 the Greatklingoncowboy4 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 10:58:46 PM

so far so good

PMoperafan2006 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 11:21:34 PM

As I mentioned in earlier threads, try to fix few issues related to secured sites.
https://banweb.banner.vt.edu/ssb/prod/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin

That site works with opera portable version 8.54 but does not work with opera 9?? User will be shocked if the new version can't do it.

ihmemies Tuesday, April 18, 2006 11:24:24 PM

All the bigger images are still %)=¤&/d up for me. Problem exists after Preview2, P1 didnt' have these. When I try to load a bigger picture, it sometimes screws up like this (... well, sometimes the image is distored like that, sometimes it has other kinds of distortion, sometimes it just cuts without any distortion etc.):

http://www.kotiposti.net/ihmemies/roina/opera_images.jpg

Same issue is at least with png and jpeg images. It's pretty annoying, and I have no idea why newer Opera builds do this. Don't they like some other app I have or what?

Rafald.i.z. Tuesday, April 18, 2006 11:24:48 PM

Preferences->Advanced->Content->Blocked Content... wont open when there are no open tabs or currently selected tab is for example Mail tab.

Not yet reported. At least by me.

Tim AltmanJunyor Tuesday, April 18, 2006 11:28:20 PM

@Teal_One: Those are probably the default margins for your printer. Do other programs allow you to change the margins so they're less than 1.5"?

Arcos Tuesday, April 18, 2006 11:48:40 PM

Great, but some remarks.

1. If you use Opera only for RSS and not for mail you can't activate the mail panel... at least in my Customize->Panels I can't mark the checkbox without an mail account.

2. If you block the advertising banner at the top of www.spiegel.de (one of Germany's leading news site) this ad disappears (good!), but you get a box with the size and the background color of the ad over covering the page header.

3. If you put the page bar on the left and add entries to the bar that contains the "New tab" entry, all entries in this bar are oriented left with every entry in a seperate line independ of options selected for this bar in Appearence->Toolbars.

... great: first comment on page 2

RSrschultz2002 Wednesday, April 19, 2006 1:57:53 AM

@Arcos, for your #2 try this. Block this http://*.ivwbox.de/* and this http://adserv* and you will not see the ad or box on top.

Sgt_HoboSergeantHobo Wednesday, April 19, 2006 2:22:44 AM

Excellent. You guys must be getting closer to a Beta if all you guys are changing is "stability fixes." bigsmile

My problems with bugs 202961 and 202962 are still there though. I know it's probably low on your priorities list but if you fix them, me love you long time. wink bigsmile

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Wednesday, April 19, 2006 2:29:13 AM

i agree with Svoboda,

the save password dialog should answer positive when the return key is pressed. that would follow the older versions and make the most sense since the ESC key answers negative already. it could be:

Enter = Save
Shift + Esc = Never Save for Site
Esc = Not Now

or something similar, cause even tho pressing enter cancels (since the cancel button is defautly selected) i still use the Esc key.

Also, i'm still having trouble with the Block Content feature. Some images are not removed the first time around, but if i click block content a second time and immediately after click done without changing anything they will sometimes disappear. I also have trouble getting flash blocked, i have to click in the background, hold the mouse button down, drag over the flash and let up to block/unblock flash. Could this be fixed?

also, this is kind of a feature request i guess, but also in a way a bug. but shouldn't embedded audio be blockable? i mean i know its not always a visual item, but it could show up when block content is clicked so the user can block it couldn't it? and then disappear again if its left unblocked. i'm trying to think of others, but right now i think that would complete the block content!

once again another idea/feature request. i think it would be very handy if users could compile lists of links to block content from. like either start to build up a collection of lists from users that have linked content to block either specific to certain sites or for opera to block on all sites. this could help users fight off annoying banner adds they could update block lists, almost like a virus definition update or something.

anyways, theres my two cents, great work opera team! keep up the always great work! wink

EDIT: i would like to know what the stability fixes were if you guys have them documented anywhere. if not then thats ok, just curious! thanks once again for a great build opera team.
