Opera Desktop Team

Post-beta weekly #1

, , ,

Again I would like to thank you for helping us bring Opera 9 to beta level.

The reason we had to use the second-last build for beta was that we included more fixes in that build than we planned, which again reopened earlier bugs on our regression testing list (which we simply don't accept in a public delivery).

The weekly build today should contain the best of both: The stability enhancements from the last build, but without the regressions since the beta. Oh, and mouse gestures don't crash in Widgets anymore...

Next week you should look forward to a rougher ride again as we plan many, many fixes and improvements

really good work! congratulations! :-)

Cobold03 21. April 2006, 16:36

Hi there.
Even with this build I can't rent a car at www.europcar.de (german car-rental-service).
In the grey bar right under the "You rent a lot more than a car"-slogan there should be a menu-bar where you can make your selections (rent a car, specials, etc...).
With IE 6.0 SP2 it works correctly. I reported this bug a few minutes ago .

But really great work nevertheless  !!!!

institoris 21. April 2006, 16:40

FTP has some bugs.
"folder up" link doesent work.
Russian symbols in folder names are displaying incorrectly.
(In TP1 and TP2 all was good, dont know about later versions)

humerus 21. April 2006, 16:41

Let me see if I am able to download from various forum posts!

aimzz 21. April 2006, 16:47

chrislu 21. April 2006, 16:49

http://www.nme.com/

i reported this site many times. with opera 8.5x all is fine, but the 9.x wont display that site correctly...

babumuchhala 21. April 2006, 16:58

thevisitor 21. April 2006, 17:01

i did not download the beta until now .
now which one should i download ? the beta or this weekly ?

DWz 21. April 2006, 17:03

The 'save to disk' download problem still exits, opera only downloads the first 3-4 kbytes, and then stops.

HeeZy 21. April 2006, 17:04

widgets still broke using native skins.

Kar 21. April 2006, 17:10

Please add "Fit to width" to site preferences. It's handle on same sites but others are displayed wrong and I must use ctrl+F11 :frown:

mgillespie 21. April 2006, 17:15

@the visitor the official beta has had more testing, the weekly is newer, with extra fixes, but MAY have regressions and new bugs.

Take your pick... Personally, I prefer the weeklies, as i like new stuff :-)

klingoncowboy4 21. April 2006, 17:17

but I only installed Beta 1 yesterday... oh well

GreyWyvern 21. April 2006, 17:24

please please please say that this is going to be improvements and fixes to M2 and contact management...

+1

Although I doubt they'll start on such a project between beta and final. :frown:

DenisCool 21. April 2006, 17:29

Just for test

griffineyes 21. April 2006, 17:38

This may be naive, but I wish these updated didn't reset my preferences.

mgillespie 21. April 2006, 17:51

Hmm, does this weeks Windows build crash for anyone else, when you visit http:///www.willem.org , and click the version 0.97G link on the L/H side?

timmi 21. April 2006, 17:53

Mhhh, i can only change the BitTorrent preferences when i would download a torrent. can it be added to the preferences -> advanced?

Galrikh 21. April 2006, 17:53

http://imageshack.us/ <-- not work again, fix it please. I always must use my Firefox for uploading pics :frown:

Tolque53 21. April 2006, 18:09

Additional problem now with www.eurosport.de :
Try to select a movie from the upper right of the page (under video/audio fotos). When moving the mouse above this flash,
it automatically, without clicking, selects the video,
but one cannot reach the play button without circumvening the videos listing above...
Also, the opening of popups by clicking on the links in the "live score" flash to the left of the videos does not work, still.
It seems as if Opera's reporting of the mouse to the flash is wrong, could that be?
In 8.54, selecting the videos does work, as well as opening the popups.

Gort 21. April 2006, 18:19

Galrikh said: "http://imageshack.us/ <-- not work again, fix it please. I always must use my Firefox for uploading pics"

Sorry, I can't confirm this. I've just uploaded an image on imageshack, and it worked fine.

I'm using build 241 (shared and .6) on Mandriva 2006.0, using KDE 3.4.2.

Works with me with all weeklys I tried (<10). I update always to program files/Operaweeklys using the msi installer on winXP. All settings seem to be same like before.

ResearchWizard 21. April 2006, 18:26

Widgets always on top normally don't have an entry/tab in task bar of WinXP. But when I restart Opera the task bar tabs are shown although the widgets are still always on top. The tabs go again when deselecting and selecting always on top for every single widget.

mgillespie 21. April 2006, 18:28

@Galrikh Imageshack uploads working fine here. Just uploaded this from Todays Opera windows build:

http://img416.imageshack.us/my.php?image=acdc2lz.jpg

Perhaps you need to be more specific about the problem...

FataL 21. April 2006, 18:35

Broken image: http://media.pc.ign.com/media/694/694190/img_3490683.html
Opera 9 TP2, Opera 8.54 do it right.

Galrikh 21. April 2006, 18:36

This picture in the thread don't load complete with Opera

http://forum.everquestii.info/showthread.php?t=9006

with Firefox it loads like it should

@mgillespie: I go on the page from imageshack, klick on "Choose". I choose a file and klick on "Host" then it loads up and then imageshack is like I go the first time on the page. No links to the pic.

@Fatal: This pic works @me with the newest Opera9 beta on Windows XP with SP1

desmasiic 21. April 2006, 18:51

Always use classic installer if u want to keep your settings safe. I still don't know why they haven't added an option of backing up all the settings into one nice lil file like bookmarks and stuff.

NoobSaibot 21. April 2006, 18:57

can't download the weeklies -- except the *.deb files (which i don't need) -- since the last three or more versions now.

i have defined the download behaviour for those extensions (gz, bz2) since then i guess it doesn't work anymore.

and it doesn't help to take those settings in the download behaviour back to "open download dialog".

eestlane 21. April 2006, 19:11

Nice to hear, as I was a bit dissapointed when Opera crashed even after such a public Beta.

Opera is the best!

Digidani 21. April 2006, 19:27

@FataL/@Galrikh: These pictures are okay with this Weekly and with the beta for me...

RomDos 21. April 2006, 19:30

Well I made a big boo boo almost... I installed the beta ontop of 8.54 voice stoped working and flash is barely running a flash chat room I have did a rollback and a system restore then reinstalled 8.54 and by the grace of the great computer god every thing is working again . think I will keep the betas in the test dir from now on till i get the new update flash from 8.54

I love the new mail format

zix 21. April 2006, 19:46

worst release for me.
Upgraded from the last beta to the new one.
First had some problems to start it (already filed a bug report and sent it to you guys) and now the same old problem:

- start opera,
- send it to tray
- click again on opera (to maximize the window an have a new tab)
...... opera says: "store init() fail, engine init() fail" or something like that ;(

EDIT: made a clean install and now it works.. on the first 5 runs opera crashed before it started...

GonsioR 21. April 2006, 19:59

mBank menu problem still exist:(
Simplified version of mBank menu site is here http://zajec.net/bug/o_missing_rows
PLEASE DO SOMETHING, other browsers and old Operas render this site(s) correct!

acanthoid 21. April 2006, 20:08
