Opera Desktop Team

Added compatibility

This weekly has quite a few goodies, my favourites are exporting bookmarks to Netscape format and support for the CONTENTEDITABLE attribute, which makes Opera more compatible with IE targeted sites.

Full list follows, as always with a few things left out

UI
  • Bookmarks exported to HTML are now in the Netscape Bookmark File Format, making them compatible with Yahoo bookmarks, Scuttle, MyBookmarks etc.
  • Further improvements to the new access key interface. Press Shift+Esc to enter access key mode where sites support it, eg [url]http://www.opera.com or [url]http://news.bbc.co.uk.
  • Multiline edit fields, compose mail and source viewer now have a
    horizontal scrollbar if needed.
  • Changing alignment of mail headers now doesn't hide or overlap headers

Rendering
  • Added support for the CONTENTEDITABLE attribute.
  • Setting table height to 100% now works in quirks mode regardless of
    height of parent element(s).
  • Stand-alone images are now centered on the page - image.css is read again.
  • User set encoding is now window and site specific.
  • Baseline for CJK characters is now correct.

Widgets
  • window.moveTo and window.resizeTo are now supported, as well as window.close.
  • Fixed unwarranted security violation errors.

Mac specific
  • IRC DCC file sending now work again.
  • Fixed some general redraw issues.
  • Faster font reading during startup.

UNIX specific
  • Ctrl+H now hides Opera to the systray if there is one.
  • Installation on Sun OSes now work.
  • No .1 linux packages today, our build machine died :frown:

  • And as usual: Several crash fixes.

Known issue
  • Some links on some sites might not be clickable in the Windows build.

Happy testing!

Yay, hooray! Nah... second

Mac specific: "Faster font reading during startup."

Was there a problem for users with lots of fonts?

Daedalus 2. June 2006, 17:36

Have you given the recently deceased build server a nice funeral yet?

Edit: Source viewer doesn't use an interface font anymore :D

Tommy2k4 2. June 2006, 17:36

Is it just me or is there a regression on www.digg.com, the page numbers at the bottom aren't links anymore yet the tags are in the source code

Liquid_Bike 2. June 2006, 17:41

Is the problem with turbo gifs known? I keep hoping it will be fixed every week.

Here's what I'm talking about:

The .gif problem seems to depend on floated content following the image. Try the following testcase

http://nontroppo.org/test/opera/giftest.html (should speed up)

Then this one:

http://nontroppo.org/test/opera/giftest2.html (doesn't speed up)

Scroll up and down the page with the mouse wheel to increase the animation speed.

Here's the link to the topic on it in the beta forum:

http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=123247&page=1&skip=0&show=&perscreen=50

arghwashier 2. June 2006, 17:44

Linux smooth scrolling still isn´t fixed :frown:

d.i.z. 2. June 2006, 17:46

Flash needs a click now to activate :frown:

Jere 2. June 2006, 17:46

Ooh... I'm really starting to love the MSI installer. AFAIK all languages are included in the same installer now?

Tell me though, why does the installer request internet access (a prompt popped up from my firewall...)

Kanel 2. June 2006, 17:46

How about cookies and site specific prefs? Any fixes?

Fyrd 2. June 2006, 17:49

Tommy2k4 - Digg links work fine for me...in fact...there's new features...that don't show up on Firefox or Safari...um...maybe it's thing from a Userjs file that suddenly works? *scratches head*

Edit: Apparently it was a Userjs file, for some reason the site preferences had suddenly changed to a different folder. Weird.

LordDaimos 2. June 2006, 17:53

Great with ContentEditable, now we just want an XMLDOM implementation (IE or Firefox style preferably), modal windows and I could remove that stupid IE icon from my desktop at work

FataL 2. June 2006, 18:00

Still crashing as hell.
Will investigate which page(s) from my saved session cause that and do a report.

Fyrd 2. June 2006, 18:00

Hmm, all my custom searches appear to have stopped working, no matter which I choose it's always a google search? (google's my first search engine).

Edit: After editing the search.ini files to remove google and change the numbers, it does indeed (still) have everything search with "Search Engine 1". The search engine icon does change, however.

(Using Mac OSX 10.3.9)

cRoMo 2. June 2006, 18:02

Are we ever going to see a nicer systray icon on Linux?

Kanel 2. June 2006, 18:02

What!? Go to http://www.voodoofilm.org , select some text and right-click on the selection. I don't get the normal copy menu.

@ http://www.gamespot.com/reviews.html?type=reviews&platform=5 all links in the left column are not clickable.

ytsmabeer 2. June 2006, 18:05

The link on the top of the screen "Opera Comunity" doesn't work anymore

vinczej 2. June 2006, 18:10

The TouchTheSky, Goal'06 and other widgets don't work with the new build, too. ("Dead buttons"). I have to stick with build 8414 :frown:

[EDIT] The Goal'06 works , but TouchTheSky doesn't. :frown:

ekot 2. June 2006, 18:11

Could you please add Image loading option(Show images/No images/Cached images) to site preferences.

It would be especially useful since now we have NTLM authorization and it would be nice to view all images in Intranet and don't load images in internet.

Bill_P 2. June 2006, 18:11

Widgets -
- Seems after every weekly load I must re-install the individual widgets
or they won't load
- Opera crashes when installing pandora and calculator
-

Running Suse 10.1

andrew3105 2. June 2006, 18:21

thx. I hope you will trying to fix .gif images bug next week.
P.S. Are you use to add visual formating support ("Google Page Creator", etc.)?

xErath 2. June 2006, 18:31

What about the xml syntax crashers ? are these fixed ?

arghwashier 2. June 2006, 18:32

Yeah, finally a shared build that works on Ubuntu Dapper  Okay Opera make me very happy by fixing smooth scrolling in Linux, please....

eddie 2. June 2006, 18:32

Nice

A little 'bug' in the MSI installer:
When selecting 'Dutch (Netherlands)' as language, the 'Installeren Opera' button is too small.

See http://erik.tweakdsl.nl/opera_install.png

Fear my l33t paint skillz p:

astranomina 2. June 2006, 18:37

Some things I noticed, could anyone confirm these ?

Lots of widgets (Touchthesky, weather, pandora) do not work with the new build. Not even after re-downloading them. (Also experienced by vinczej)

In my Yahoo Mail Inbox, there is a lot of empty space above the page. Has anyone else seen the same ?

FataL 2. June 2006, 18:38

Hoooray! Opera's XSLT processor now understands xsl:import
It renders my XML file now, and than crashes... well... anyway, it's improvement!
Previously Opera shows only "XSLT processing failed!"
So, crashes that I complained about was connected only to one XML with XSL...

ItsDon 2. June 2006, 18:43

All of my search engines now just default to Google. Anything I can do to fix this (clean install etc.?) of is reverting back to an older version the solution?

MiF 2. June 2006, 18:44

doesn't work any links on http://www.kino-govno.com/ and sometimes crash

jkb 2. June 2006, 18:45

"Further improvements to the new access key interface. Press Shift+Esc to enter access key mode where sites support it, eg http://www.opera.com or http://news.bbc.co.uk."

I love this, great idea, thanks!

Paul Skinner 2. June 2006, 18:47

I know it's in the 'Known issues' bit, but blimey: not one link on my website works in it.

www.abscond.org

It's (usually) XHTML and CSS valid too.

Do we get to know why it doesn't work on some and does on others?

Time to change to previous build.

Fyrd 2. June 2006, 18:48

@ItsDon

Aha! Glad I'm not the only one. Yeah, if they won't come up with a fix for this one soon, I'm gonna have to go back to an older build...

Edit: Using a search engine keyword in the address bar does work, I guess I can live with that for now.

Alienz 2. June 2006, 18:49

Identify as not in the Quick Preference anymore?

Evo2Me 2. June 2006, 18:55

touchtheSky and Currency Converter - isn't the latter done by Opera themselves? - aren't working.

Salon.com does work again, thanks.

Interactivity with Flash is still broken.

alexs 2. June 2006, 19:07

Standalone-Flash cannot play in build 8455 (msi installer)

Flash standalone:
http://2kgames.com/davincicode/DaVinciCode_Main.swf
Flash in HTML:
http://2kgames.com/davincicode/unlockthecode.html

borg 2. June 2006, 19:11

Skinner, Fyrd: We have already fixed the problem with links, but it was only available in builds for Mac and Linux and it was getting a bit late on a friday night, so we decided that shipping *something* was better than nothing on Windows.

Flash interactivity should be available, but sometimes requires a click to activate the plug-in. We're in the process of aligning plug-in activation with IE7 and that has probably lead to some bugs here and there

igorditerni 2. June 2006, 19:22

As in previous builds I can't log in my web-bank at http://www.iwbank.it and i can't read my Tiscali web-mail even if I can log in at http://mail.tiscali.it (when I want read e-mail I receive a not specifyed 404 error).

Ciao, Igor

Tolque53 2. June 2006, 19:23

Horrible problem using gtalk in googlemail:
When hovering over the contacts on the sidebar, the sidebar will get longer and longer, making the page twice/three times as long as it really is.
Can anybody confirm?

Fyrd 2. June 2006, 19:27

@borg

As a Mac user, the link problem indeed did not occur for me. Instead, I do hope you're aware of the search engine bug experienced by me and ItsDon?
