Opera Desktop Team

Added compatibility

This weekly has quite a few goodies, my favourites are exporting bookmarks to Netscape format and support for the CONTENTEDITABLE attribute, which makes Opera more compatible with IE targeted sites.

Full list follows, as always with a few things left out

UI
  • Bookmarks exported to HTML are now in the Netscape Bookmark File Format, making them compatible with Yahoo bookmarks, Scuttle, MyBookmarks etc.
  • Further improvements to the new access key interface. Press Shift+Esc to enter access key mode where sites support it, eg [url]http://www.opera.com or [url]http://news.bbc.co.uk.
  • Multiline edit fields, compose mail and source viewer now have a
    horizontal scrollbar if needed.
  • Changing alignment of mail headers now doesn't hide or overlap headers

Rendering
  • Added support for the CONTENTEDITABLE attribute.
  • Setting table height to 100% now works in quirks mode regardless of
    height of parent element(s).
  • Stand-alone images are now centered on the page - image.css is read again.
  • User set encoding is now window and site specific.
  • Baseline for CJK characters is now correct.

Widgets
  • window.moveTo and window.resizeTo are now supported, as well as window.close.
  • Fixed unwarranted security violation errors.

Mac specific
  • IRC DCC file sending now work again.
  • Fixed some general redraw issues.
  • Faster font reading during startup.

UNIX specific
  • Ctrl+H now hides Opera to the systray if there is one.
  • Installation on Sun OSes now work.
  • No .1 linux packages today, our build machine died :frown:

  • And as usual: Several crash fixes.

Known issue
  • Some links on some sites might not be clickable in the Windows build.

Happy testing!

Wait a minute, there have been some improvements for smooth scrolling in Linux, right? ALthough the scroll speed also seems to be far slower...

There seem to be less artifacts when scrolling with the mouse wheel but using the cursus keys is still impossible.

Yogurth 2. June 2006, 19:38

www.digg.com broken here too

NeXTie 2. June 2006, 19:40

Thanks, now HydrogenAudio.org and GlumClub.ru work perfectly.. =)

But:

-- still display problems with http://www.telesem.ru/tv_programs/tv_programs.php

rejdi 2. June 2006, 19:41

Still no fix for bug-209379 :frown:. Where is the problem?

Atul Varaskar 2. June 2006, 19:42

Hey whats with this
i try to save an wallpaper for example
and it takes me to the tranfers window
and downloads the wallpaper again
this is quite annoying
one crappy feature i ditched firefox for :frown:

Bontzy 2. June 2006, 19:50

"Some links on some sites might not be clickable in the Windows build."
this reminds me of something from american dad :
"Francine, you be very careful out there today, we're at terror alert orange! Which means something might go down somewhere in some way at some point in time. So look sharp!"

Matthew 2. June 2006, 19:51

I posted this right at the end on the last post, so it might not have been seen, so here it is again:

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, and I'm not sure if I should report this to you or the BBC. On the BBC Blog Network, all the blogs have a massive amount of space to the left, with just one link at the top. It's easier to just see what I mean:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/worldcup/
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/nickrobinson/
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/actionnetwork/

I don't know if this is a problem with the browser not working with a certain bit of code or something, or whether it's the BBC doing something wrong.

MrFrodo 2. June 2006, 19:54

confirm click to "activate" Flash contet on Mac build.

Also, my pet bug - #187336 is still not fully fixed, while were on the subject of Flash...

Kc4 the Great 2. June 2006, 19:55

Running Trend Micro PC-CRAP and this build is more stable then the last one. I have found that most of the Weeklies have been more stable then the final releases when something hogs all the memory. Though I am not all that sure about the latest release of 8 since I have been running 9.00 since PR 1. I do run the latest "stable" release on my brothers win95 machine but we aren't running any hardware intensive programs on that machine.

Known issue
Some links on some sites might not be clickable in the Windows build.

That includes the "Opera Community" link

shadowK 2. June 2006, 20:01

i think this build has a memory leak somewhere..it's not normal for opera to be using 77,304K of memory with just 2 tabs open and no widgets...

Johan Borg 2. June 2006, 20:08

klingoncowboy4, well.. you can't complain that we only break other people's sites, at least

MrFrodo 2. June 2006, 20:10

@borg

"klingoncowboy4, well.. you can't complain that we only break other people's sites, at least"

Fair enough! HA:)

Alexis Deveria 2. June 2006, 20:10

This bug still occurs for me in this build...(where multiple widgets on "always below" cause the browser's focus to screw up)

NoobSaibot 2. June 2006, 20:12

M2 bug still not fixed. it is driving me nuts.

Matthew 2. June 2006, 20:13

I've also noticed a problem on http://www.tvrage.com in that the bar at the top goes all icky and broken, it doesn't happen all the time, but when clicking on links or pressing back it happens every now and then. Here's a picture of it broken and how it's meant to look:

Christian 2. June 2006, 20:18

Confirm instant crash when adding Pandora Widget. Could reproduce it twice.

bug-212052

Other widgets work (touchtheWire, Google Calender).
touchtheSky still doesn't react when clicking on the buttons.

Lucas 2. June 2006, 20:18

Opera crashes when I click on the all links here:
https://talk.hyperreal.info/

In all weeklys drom 26.05 to to today when I have sellected option Block all pop-ups I can't click on the information pop-up in right bottom corner to open that blocked site. Opera is going to inactive. (Situtation when you are click on the desk or run another program)

I talk about linux weekly

Sorry for my english

Szymon Teżewski 2. June 2006, 20:20

Reffering to Alienx:
Identify as now is (in my opinion) in better place.
I think they think in this way: Opera normally have own UAString (Opera is Opera and should identify as Opera when it doesn't occure any problems). But when you have problems with one site you now shouldn't change UAString, cause you don't need it at other sites. Now you can be Mozilla or IE at every site you want (in Site preferences), but normally you are Opera.
And thanks for "realy masking" without this Opera at the end

I'm interested in one thing. What UAString have Opera identifed as IE in Linux?

Pekcxi 2. June 2006, 20:23

Animated GIFs. 'nuf said.

l0ne 2. June 2006, 20:26

Italian localization! Whoohooo!

Paul Skinner 2. June 2006, 20:29

We have already fixed the problem with links, but it was only available in builds for Mac and Linux and it was getting a bit late on a friday night, so we decided that shipping *something* was better than nothing on Windows.

Does that mean a nice new, linkalicious, Windows build for us sometime Monday/Tuesday?

Burak 2. June 2006, 20:38

imageshack.us still not working :frown:
my another problem is sometimes gifs are very fast playing but sometimes gifs are too slow.

Roy 2. June 2006, 20:42

Is NTLM support going to get fixed? Using Opera 9 behind a corporate firewall is a major pain. I can't even log into the forums. I'm writing this using Opera 8.54.

l0ne 2. June 2006, 20:49

I have a problem with Shift+Esc displaying the window but access keys not working on the Mac build.

arghwashier 2. June 2006, 21:03

@ StarGazer,

I don't know if my router uses NTLM but for the first time since last week I actually managed to log into my router with Opera (previously it said Authentication not supported or just hung). Opera 8 never supported ntlm...

I have TEXTAREA field on one of my project page. When it loads first time all looks Ok. But when I submit the form and than return to page with form this TEXTAREA now has horisontal scrollbar which disappears as soon as I put cursor in field.

As I saw your comment, I tried the same here with my router and BAM, it worked.

My router is Linksys WAG54G (old and not very well working btw  ) and it was known for a long time that it didn't supported Opera. But now, it seems that Opera changed (fixed) something and it works. Thanks

And btw, it's not about NTLM i believe. There was some issues with normal authentication.

MrFrodo 2. June 2006, 21:17

apple.com layout broken.

arghwashier 2. June 2006, 21:19

@ d.i.z.,

Mine is a Linksys too, a newer one though: a WAG354G

Alexs 2. June 2006, 21:35

Links from Opera protocols in websites cannot open.

opera:about opera:cache opera: plugins

artemeas 2. June 2006, 21:39

sorry, but its the worst build ever
im waiting for the next one...

Dierk Haasis 2. June 2006, 21:53

Flash interactivity should be available, but sometimes requires a click to activate the plug-in.

Right, didn't work the first time I tried it on TV.com; does now as you explain.

Another funny thing: On http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage I have set my log-in to be remembered; it wasn't in the last few builds. It is now, sort of. I have to reload the site after it has been loaded for the first time, then I am shown as logged in.

My cache is emptied on exit, and Opera had been closed in-between.

Michael Perlov 2. June 2006, 22:16

Linux build 315 - broken searches:

No matter, what search engine you select - always using Google,
except opera.com engines (http://www.opera.com/support/search/supsearch.dml etc.)

also, opera converts ~ in links to /home/username:

Menu Item:
Item, "Firefox" = Execute program, "firefox", "%u", "Firefox", "Firefox"

Link:
http://some.host.com/~perlovka/

Firefox received "http://some.host.com//home/perlovkaperlovka/"

  in WML still broken

Paul Skinner 2. June 2006, 22:20

@arghwashier: Oooo, me too. Linksys WAG345G (the new version of D.I.Z.'s it would seem), nice little router, not dropped signal once.
That's handy; one less reason to have IE.

Markus 2. June 2006, 22:38

What the heck...

I thought this would only be a temporary flaw in the last build, but it keeps on being in here!

Using IMAP, setting a message as "Read", it once read in the status "Setting flag" and then it stored the message as read. The last two build DON'T do that, at least not for www.gmx.de, and it is very disappointing. Everytime Opera synchronises mail, everything is back to unread! Not nice...

And another thing: for example, http://www.butterweck.org/files/bubble.swf does not load. It only shows up a blank page with "<embed src" in the upper left corner.

Hugo Pessotti 2. June 2006, 22:45

"Opera directory" bug fixed!!
Thank you guys!! Now I can use Opera with my remote profile!!

Great build, this one is better than beta2 itself.

Tommy 2. June 2006, 22:57

Problem with plugins such as quicktime / wmp (I could never open wmv with the wmp plugin in opera anyway but it is now doing this) if I open a .mpg file it will load a page that has the text "<embed src" (without quotes) and that's it. Is there a css file controlling this or what?

PM 2. June 2006, 23:03

I have seen crash on yahoo.com (new) page.

Also, some random crach on opera community site.

www.hotels.com hangs as before with previous build.

RoSmecher85 2. June 2006, 23:08

there is a problem on http://www.adobe.com/ check out the horizontal scrollbar. also there is a problem on http://tsn.ca/nhl/ the right column where it shows the tsn schedule should be at the top right of the page not starting at middle right. also there is a problem still on http://www.ufc.tv check out how messed up the text is over the images and such.
hopefully this MAJOR site viewing problems and many other site viewing problems will be fixed before final.

Christian Vest Hansen 2. June 2006, 23:28

Was hoping that CONTENTEDITABLE, amongst other things, would make stuff like this work: http://www.solmetra.com/spaw/demo/demo.php (use Mark as Internet Explorer to see what I mean).

Saulo Benigno 2. June 2006, 23:57

ok, same bug from the last two builds...

"
Transfer window.

When you complete one file the Progress become: Done.

that´s fine.

but.. the bug:

When you move (to another folder) or delete this same file... the Progress become: Stopped.

can anyone confirm (again) please ?
"

thanks

Bill P 3. June 2006, 00:03

Bad build - this is the second week that I've been compelled not to use the current weekly because of regression in critical/existing functionality. Last week I had no acccess to M2 and this week I can have any search engine I want as long as it's Google.

I wonder how many others revert to previous builds and thus shrink the pool of testers possibly below an optimal number. Might there be thought of an interim weekly that just resolve critical regressions?

thanks,

Quick Contacts of Gmail now is so strange - look:

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5255/gmail9vc.png

Of cource, the Gmail page is with the "Mask as Mozilla" set.

This bad look of quck contacts didn't appear in the Linux build 300 of Opera - now I'm using 315

Thanks

Mike Harvey 3. June 2006, 01:05

This build has a problem with the webmail interface for Cox.net (my ISP). The folder selection menu no longer appears. It works fine in build 8432.

See the attached screenshots:

build 8455: http://mh2.org/img/webmail_b8455.jpg

build 8432: http://mh2.org/img/webmail_b8432.jpg

This is on Windows XP. I know this may be hard to identify or test this problem without being able to log into webmail. I can create a test login in anyone at Opera wants to see this.

rejdi 3. June 2006, 02:09

move top not working

Tim Altman 3. June 2006, 02:42

@Paul Skinner and Bill_P: Since we have started releasing weeklies, we haven't sent out replacements for known issues. There may be new weeklies in the middle of next week, but it will not be simply to fix known bugs. If it bothers you that much, I recommend going back to the previous build.

@l0ne: We're aware that accesskeys aren't working on the Mac.

@_artem_: You should see some of out internal builds.

@Scorpio75: Would you please send me a log file via PM that shows the IMAP read mail problem?

rejdi 3. June 2006, 03:33
