Opera Desktop Team

Mid week testing

Its the middle of the week, but what do we care.

Known issues:
  • Search engines other than Google will also use Google.
  • Opening standalone files that require plugins still display "<embed src".
  • Middleclick features (Paste'n'Go and Panning) do not work.

Changes from last Friday:
  • Further improvement to the international MSI installer. It should now pick up your system locale and configure Opera with that locale if the language is supported by Opera.
  • Several fixes and improvements to SVG handling.
  • Links are clickable in Windows again.
  • Several IMAP fixes.

UNIX:
  • Plug-ins work better now.
  • The tray icon can now be disabled with the command line option -notrayicon

Thanks.

Pandora widget download is still crashing Opera. Do you need bug report again?

Some pages have gray fonts in this build.

Thank you for putting out a release early with a Windows Link fix.

ChristianResearchWizard Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:17:37 PM

Just realized: it's German now (with msi installer on my German XP). Thanks a lot, although I changed language back to English (for easier reporting in English forum & easier distinguishing of O8.54 + O9w).

Will there be localized searches in future, too?

Toolbar-Searches does not always search with Google: amazon.com searches on Opera

Searches on panel work properly, but shift to open in new tab still doesn't work.

My custom search created 2-3 weeklys ago is still there - works with shortcut, not on toolbar (google).

János, Vinczevinczej Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:30:45 PM

Thanks, guys! I switched back to the last (this) version! up

MoonStalker Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:33:33 PM

Well lot of things fixed! Great for a earlier link - fix. Still problems with aol aim-webmail! If I would´ve 1 wish, it would be get a plugin for AI-Roboform! Just like Firefox has! Just a dream, I know!

Shane R. Monroedarkuni Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:35:50 PM

Problems with SUBJECT lines in VBulletin forums. As you type, spaces are changed to tabs! It is VERY VERY odd ...

BlazP Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:38:33 PM

My suspects...
http://www.si21.com (reduced web page)
http://www.dialogscript.com (menu don't work)
http://www.grimfandango.net (wrong position graphics/text)

Using Java 5.0 Update 7

Opera 8.54 with small problems:
Sometimes BACKSPACE don't wotk properly (if using in input box but is used as back page).
Sometimes are icons for Bookmarks used from another link.
Sometimes Bookmark link show's up in toolbar ?

-> I hope this read all developers for Opera <-

NoobSaibot Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:40:37 PM

guys, the download preferences are still broken in the linux version. if i define a download location (not asking me where to save this file) for a certain file type then i can be sure that i will not be able to download this file type at all.

RSrschultz2002 Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:40:54 PM

Middle Mouse AutoScroll stopped working for me in this build. Opera/9.00 (Windows ME; U; en) 8460

Also links that goto opera:config do not work as stated in the last Build by someone.

MisterE Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:55:23 PM

@rschultz2002: scroll using middle mouse button doesn't work for me either. Using build 8460, Windows XP Pro SP2.

GrahamGort Wednesday, June 7, 2006 5:57:41 PM

Middle mouse button scrolling doesn't work in the Linux build. Mandriva 2006.0 and KDE 3.4.2.

dajmg Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:00:23 PM

oh, the search engine problem is still there...

and the middle key of my mouse...

All the old problems with 8455 seem not to be solved and new problems appear. I should say, this is the most unsuccessful beta I have ever tested. Why to launch tihs middle weekly? 'cause of the WM? Sorry for my bitter words, but I am really disappointed......

Anyway, thx for your eforts and, longing for the next weekly version~~~

TheStalwart Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:06:53 PM

Tray icon can be disabled! \o/

Can you also make it disablable in preferences window? =]

Michelkav2006 Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:12:06 PM

Some problems in Opera 9.0.8460
1. Sometimes Opera's Transfers on status field write not "Done", but "stopped", however downloading is complete and all files works!

2. The problem with Lang settings (when you switch favorite and encoding and press OK. preference window diapear) hasn't been fixed yet

3. When I'm clicking on link "Реформатор" on site http://www.artlebedev.ru/tools/technogrette/etc/reformator/ Opera crashs

thadood Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:12:48 PM

The last two or three releases have been nothing but crash prone on my Mac. Power Mac G5, running 10.4.6. Build 3418 crashes as soon as it starts loading ANY site. And since I have a home page.. it crashes as soon as it loads. The only way it won't crash is if I choose "Start with a blank page" when the "Welcome to Opera" screen loads up. This has happened with the last few builds. I can't remember which build was the last to work for me. 83xx? I can't recall.

GrahamGort Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:17:44 PM

"Unix:

"Plug-ins work properly now."

When I go to Youtube.com, the Flash videos still won't work. Going to a few sites that have Flash still don't work (BBC's TV page for example). Some sites it works, but some it doesn't. Maybe I misinterpreted the info given about this build above.

Build 320, shared, .6; Mandriva 2006.0 with KDE 3.4.2.

episode Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:26:32 PM

The tabs look different in this build. I don't like the way really long tab names just continue outside the tab's borders. If I remember correctly, in earlier builds they just got three dots in the end if the name was too long to fit in tabs completely.

M-Z Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:28:31 PM

This new installer (noone knows why) has started using profile in c:\documents and settings instead of current one in Opera directory.
Good work! sad

Igor DavydenkoLoki1zI Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:51:07 PM

Thank you for fixing '<embed src' issue!!!

But this problem is really suck:
"The tabs look different in this build. I don't like the way really long tab names just continue outside the tab's borders. If I remember correctly, in earlier builds they just got three dots in the end if the name was too long to fit in tabs completely."

Frankmusebliss Wednesday, June 7, 2006 6:57:59 PM

Since build 8460, Opera doesn't show < table > bgcolor for the complete table, even if there are no bgcolor-tags in the < td > or < tr > tags...

gilb Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:10:34 PM

Hi
great for the international MSI installer.

Bug with on page of this forum with this version

Igor DavydenkoLoki1zI Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:14:40 PM

i think that bugs with tables are bugs of web-developers and non Opera bugs... because bgcolor element in table is depricated for all current web specifications...

CSS background-color: attribute is working!

berend ytsmaytsmabeer Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:15:21 PM

Problem with this site http://www.theinquirer.net/
side menu is not usable and visable

Frankmusebliss Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:23:38 PM

@Loki1zI:
But bgcolor is HTML-Standard and W3C Standard, so I think that it is in fact a bug made by Opera.
Since it has always supported it, until this build.

.:GaBBaGandalf:.GaBBaGandalf Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:24:48 PM

Hello there.... i've got the same Problem with Flash movies like 'Gort'

but i'm using Windows build 8460

greetZ:GaBBa

netwolf Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:28:45 PM

Good to see a new build, but unfortunately with the MiddleClick issues it's not really usable for me.
However, 3 things I noticed:

1) still crashes if the drive where it's installed is full
2) 'Blocked on current page' is always empty even if there is content blocked on that site.
3) when you delete a completed transfer using shell menu, its status changes to 'Stopped' (which is wrong of course).

Alexsalexs Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:39:09 PM

FAS Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:43:08 PM

Bug with the MSI Installer : with the french version, the caption of the command buttons are a little bit odd. The first button is "Configuration du démarrage" (Setup of the startup) instead of "Démarrage de l'installation" (Start setup). Anyway, this caption and the one of the "I disagree" button ("Je ne suis pas d'accord", "Je refuse" would be more appropriate) are too long for the button...

@musebliss
yeah... i know that bgcolor is W3C or HTML 4.0 and lower standart... but if web-developers add to it pages HTML 4.01 or XHTML doctype they can't use this attribute... i think so...

and i have next issue with RSS feeds:
Some bug with author names in RSS feeds
Some bug with author names in RSS feeds
so... three last symbols in author name are replacing to three dots...

pepejeria Wednesday, June 7, 2006 7:53:22 PM

How come this version has "Click to activate" for Flashs? Does it have to be like this? Firefox doesn't have this. I know IE had to do this change because of a lawsuit, but Opera as well?

porneL Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:05:33 PM

"Middleclick features (Paste'n'Go and Panning) do not work."

Oh, a typical Mac Opera feature p

Tim AltmanJunyor Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:20:39 PM

@All: The problems with background colors are known.

@HerwigF: &shy works for me. Test case?

desmasiic Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:23:54 PM

"Search engines other than Google will also use Google."

That sounds more like a feature than a issue p

EDIT: Oh and some sites like Gamespot and Digg, I am having problems with not being able to click 'next' page links. No idea why, I did disable scripting on those sites but enabled and reloaded, but same. I didn't have this issue before.

Digidani Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:24:22 PM

Thx for fixing several issues!

But I still have problems with many Windows Media-Streams. For instance www.n-tv.de (Videos/Livestream). Or www.viva.tv (Charts). Builds before 8455 have no problem. Also 8.54. But the new builds doesn`t work.

And: Please fix the flash-bug! Or can I use flash without "first-klick-in"?

Rafał MiłeckiZajec Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:29:45 PM

Bug: Opera [320] treats &.nbsp; like a &.amp;nbsp; (without dots of course). These comments are little bugged.

Tommy A. Olsentoman Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:30:25 PM

@ResearchWizard: No need to report it again. We know what causes it (<security><plugin> combo in config.xml) and are fixing it.

@FAS: Could you please submit a bug report about the language in the installer? smile

@M-Z: Maybe you didn't choose to install with a shared settings directory.

@episode: We know, will be fixed.

FataL Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:36:38 PM

Disable bug seems fixed in this build, but not in WebForms 2 case: try to press Add button couple times on the second from the bottom form.

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Wednesday, June 7, 2006 8:46:05 PM

- Any idea when the Currency converter widget will work again?

- Visited links are again not adhering to the time limit I have defined (after 2 hours they should revert to unvisited; they don't).

- http://www.iview-multimedia.com/support : background should be white (and was until and including the last weekly) instead of grey.

- Where are the "ID as [browser of your choice]" menu entries? I sometimes need them!

- The Flash movie on http://www.iview-multimedia.com home page is still obscuring the menu; I'd like to test what happens when I ID as IE (with this setting it worked before), but see above.

- http://www.openphotographyforums.com : wrongly rendered, there should be a brown bar right beneath the menu, to the left and right of the photo. Was in order before.

Cyro Wednesday, June 7, 2006 9:02:33 PM

Doesn't render correctly www.uol.com.br
It was ok with previous weekly versions. Regression!?

FataL Wednesday, June 7, 2006 9:16:51 PM

Goal 06 widget still eating memory after couple minuts of inactivity (probably because of getting some update).
Guys, we need this particular widget working till Friday. bigsmile

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Wednesday, June 7, 2006 9:21:25 PM

Find in Page results are still shown grey and (for current selected) very dark grey - especially the latter is not helpful as the text disappears.

Please, bring back yellow and green highlighting.
