First off: make sure you know that there are

Known issues

and then, on the brighter side, read the

  • Opening standalone files that require plugins are fixed.
  • opera: and mailto: links now work again.
  • Animated gif images no longer speed up! (Wheeee!!)
  • Added support for DOM level 2 Style Sheets and associated parts of DOM level 2 CSS. (Yay!!)
  • Improved handling of offsetTop, offsetLeft and offsetParent.
  • When enabling the status bar, link and form tooltips will not show the URL address anymore, and will display the content of the title attribute without the "Title: " prefix.
  • Multiple stability fixes.
  • IMAP fixes.
  • several NTLM fixes.

Have fun - and Happy testing!

Installer issues:
On a NL system the installer initially 'talks' to me in Danish.
When chosing an upgrade, the proposed location is the 'old' Op8 folder while al the previous ones detected the Op9B folder.

'A happy tester'.

Martin RauscherHades32 Friday, June 9, 2006 6:58:23 PM

On WinXP: I can't turn off the Console.
A every page it pops up sad

arghwashier Friday, June 9, 2006 6:58:23 PM

@By FataL, # 9. June 2006, 18:53:56,

looks like the same bug in Opera a while back (dont know if it ever got fixed) at www.consumentenond.nl , I gave up trying to register there..

CaseySirCasey Friday, June 9, 2006 6:59:03 PM

Awww, why are the searches still broken? That's the one thing I'm waiting to see fixed before I can start using new versions since 8432.

It looked to me like it was an off-by-one-or-two error since it seemed to search the previous search in the searchbar.

Guess I'll have to wait until next weekly...

FataL Friday, June 9, 2006 7:03:22 PM

You can use inline (in address field) search - it works. After get used to it I don't need search field anymore.

What's an NL system?

As for the suggested location: draw your own conclusions!

@By Hades32, # 9. June 2006, 18:58:23,

should this be possible, I really hate the error console, far more annoying than the errors themselves...

episode Friday, June 9, 2006 7:08:11 PM

Tabs with long names are still "broken" in this build. I hope this gets fixed in next weekly.

Digidani Friday, June 9, 2006 7:11:21 PM

I still can`t play any video or the livestream on www.n-tv.de... sad

Am I the only one?! Or can anybody confirm that? In older releses (before 8455) it`s okay here.

gabrield Friday, June 9, 2006 7:12:39 PM

I think the installer needs better-looking women. Who's with me?

toadbee Friday, June 9, 2006 7:13:07 PM

multiple IMAP password dialogs are now maintaining focus. Yippee. I can put away the rolaids.

Petko VasilevAlpha-Toxic Friday, June 9, 2006 7:15:11 PM

The error console is annoying the hell out of me. I don't think I'll be able to stand it so I'll downgrade to the prev build.

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Friday, June 9, 2006 7:15:16 PM

- Hm, how come nobody but me mentions the missing ID as [browser name] entries in the menu? Is it a problem with my set-up, say, installing as upgrade (over previous build)?

- Currency Converter still broken.

- Still have to reload http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage to be shown as logged in.

- Salon.com still (again) broken, I get into a loop when trying to view the ad for free pass; after it ends and I click Enter Salon I et to the frontpage and immediately back to the ad.

- Flash movie on www.iview-multimedia.com still obstructs menu when ID'ing as Opera or Mozilla; work perfectly when ID'ing as IE.

- Visited links appear visited even after they should have reverted to normal.

CRASH... when right click on items in personal bar (ie. remove bookmarks). All the time, all items... ???

(Opera wb 8473 - Out of the box - Windows XP - Java 1.5)

Johan Borgborg Friday, June 9, 2006 7:18:21 PM

Evo2Me, We prefer to keep ID as Opera the default, in Opera 9 you can use site preferences to fix the sites where this isn't enough (right-click page -> Edit site preferences...)

ChristianResearchWizard Friday, June 9, 2006 7:18:51 PM

Impressive Change Log smile

Just for information: msi installer offered upgrade of my Opera8.5 installation - the last weeklys it offered the weeklys folder. Though it has been no problem to choose the right folder with the option for seperate installation.

AndrewLiandri Friday, June 9, 2006 7:19:31 PM

Animated gif images no longer speed up!

What? But when we can see realistic and smooth animation speeds? Now all frames are limited to 10 ms, just like in Windows. I don't mean crazy speeds, i mean real speeds, just like they were configured during creation of GIF.

I described here:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=97926

It was almost a year ago... And it seems that noone wants this feature in Opera? So bad...

PS: Pls, don't ask me for a bug number for this, i don't know it.

Johan Borgborg Friday, June 9, 2006 7:19:33 PM

Investor, yes, the crash is related to the searches that don't work. Expect an update before next friday that fixes this...

Martin RauscherHades32 Friday, June 9, 2006 7:19:55 PM

I can't really say how, but suddenly the console stopped popping up!?
Yeehaa! bigsmile

Rijk Friday, June 9, 2006 7:20:54 PM

@Hades32, arghwashier, alpha-toxic:

Empty the value for opera:config#UserPrefs|ConsoleFilter for now, that seems to help. It is indeed very annoying when you get this.

ChristianResearchWizard Friday, June 9, 2006 7:21:56 PM

@FatalL: really funny, "Search Tips" on http://rusrestaurant.com/tests/Entrez/entrez-layout-1.html hovers the input form and with click on the form it disappears again. But it is selected and usable (blinking cursor & yellow) after hovering "Search Tips" again. In FF it is visible from the beginning (without hover effects). Haven't looked to the source code yet. But with JS disabled it is shown from the beginning - as in Firefox.
Looks like a design-demo as menu is not functional (neither in IE+FF)

Alexis DeveriaFyrd Friday, June 9, 2006 7:24:32 PM

Hooray! Death to the title prefix! smile

Was also hoping for the search fix though...oh well.

arghwashier Friday, June 9, 2006 7:27:06 PM

there also seems to be a misallignment occasionally between tab bar and url bar in linux, shared qt .6 build, nver seen this before, I am using Plastik btw as widget style....

Danielwindseeker Friday, June 9, 2006 7:27:45 PM

Help! I can flip back and forth in the browser history by fast scrolling up and down with my mouse wheel....

Thanks for any help!

Daniel

Temporary fix for Error Console...

In the bottom left box of the console it says "All" select "Voice" from the drop down and close the console. That will keep it from appearing at all.

Rafald.i.z. Friday, June 9, 2006 7:28:25 PM

About "Console popuping up" problem.

After it first pop ups, you can minimize it (not close) and it won't bug you again.

Mihai Sucanrobodesign Friday, June 9, 2006 7:28:36 PM

The DOM 2 improvements are very important. Thanks smile.

@borg: There are a fix for the flash-bug in one of the next builds? The first-klick-in is horror... smile

PMoperafan2006 Friday, June 9, 2006 7:29:12 PM

nice to see those fixes from previous builds. But why it wants to install as opera 9 instead of opera9 beta ? So, actually my old beta setup will not be replaced? if yes, then I will have the pain of transferring setups etc!

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Friday, June 9, 2006 7:30:14 PM

@borg

No trouble at all with ID'ing as Opera by default - I've always done that and voted for it when it was discussed over at Opera Beta Group (Usenet). For many users it may be a solution to use Site Preferences, particularly if they have sites really needing it to be usable.

Personally I very rarely have to do that, actually I cannot think of a single site where it is necessary for me. OTOH, sometimes I want a quick glance if a problem is due to not being IE. Or I need to enable ID as IE for a short moment to get beyond a problem page, but then want to go back when I am through the "tunnel". And example would be the frontpage of iView (see above and my complaint for some builds now).

Bottom line: Menu entry is more flexible and much quicker than Purely Site Preferences settings.

Danielwindseeker Friday, June 9, 2006 7:31:51 PM

Aaaaaah! My Scroll-History-Flipping problem goes away when disabling smooth scrolling. This feature seems to be broken way more seriously as I thought until now....

It worked fine previously in Opera 9, but couple builds ago start jumping.
Anyway try to put cursor in search field with JS off. smile

arghwashier Friday, June 9, 2006 7:33:35 PM

@Rijk, # 9. June 2006, 19:20:54,

Thanks Rijk, I think for the final there should be an option to turn of the error console completely or at least not to make it steal focus.

_Grey_ Friday, June 9, 2006 7:34:50 PM

Completed support DOM level 2 CSS.

Added support for DOM level 2 Style Sheets. (Yay!!)

You're impressing me again and again. Remember this chart? Good work, keep it up yes

CaseySirCasey Friday, June 9, 2006 7:34:50 PM

@FataL
I tried, but I have a bunch of specialized searches and it's just too aggrevating to deal with and remember all the search letters in front of the search...

Expect an update before next friday that fixes this...

Yes!!!

Just for testing: W3C DOM Compatibility - CSS

episode Friday, June 9, 2006 7:48:02 PM

Hmm.. every time I try to save a picture from a website, Opera opens up transfer-tab and shows saved picture's filename on the list. This is very annoying and needs to be fixed.
