Opera Desktop Team

Monday: A new week begins..

, ,

Last build had a few very annoying issues, so we decided to give you an early update. Searches now work again and the error console shouldn't pop up every 20 seconds or so wink

Might have to clean out opera:config#UserPrefs|ConsoleFilter on dirty installs to make the error dialog stop appearing.

Known issues
  • Old RSS Icon.
  • We're sure you'll find some more. wink
  • Forms inside tables might corrupt table width

Changelog
  • Searches are fixed.
  • No crash when rightclicking in personalbar.
  • Error console not always appearing.
  • Lots of stability fixes.

Regarding the old RSS icon: Mozilla would like us (and other users of it) to sign an agreement on the use of the feeds icon. We fully respect their rights to the icon and will not use it as long as this isn't sorted out.

Have fun - and Happy testing!

Great works smile

Jere Monday, June 12, 2006 6:32:53 PM

May I ask, what kind of an agreement?

The icons have been released for free at http://feedicons.com/, weird if they suddenly want something in compensation for using them.

thevmail Monday, June 12, 2006 6:33:13 PM

yay in the top 10, thanks for the new build bigsmile

Hylic Monday, June 12, 2006 6:44:28 PM

olli Monday, June 12, 2006 6:44:29 PM

devz0r, w2phoenix: Example sites of where it appears? Do you have a dirty or clean install?

Arche Twistarchetwist Monday, June 12, 2006 6:44:54 PM

For me old RSS icon is not an issue, it is an improvement smile

TopiMrFukov Monday, June 12, 2006 6:45:53 PM

Thanks \o/
Even downgrade to beta2 didn't work but I hope this helps.

Error console is easy to "disable": drop down menu --> voice.
(if someone still have that problem)

LudvigKanel Monday, June 12, 2006 6:47:47 PM

Great, thanks! smile

Wojtek Kowalukdodd Monday, June 12, 2006 6:48:08 PM

What this? In IE and Firefox cursor load, but in Opera no. =)

MrFrodo Monday, June 12, 2006 6:58:16 PM

Clean Mac install (except a user js file).

Weird submit button issue. Possible regression? Can't give link to page but...

RoyStarGazer Monday, June 12, 2006 6:58:21 PM

The version seems to have reintroduced username/password prompts when behind a corporate firewall. The last version eliminated it completely (log in only once). Prior to the last verson it happened almost on every page load. Now it happens more randomly. I just visited CNN.com and was prompted three or four times in a row as the page loaded.

Edit: I just refreshed this page and was again prompted multiple times for my network username/password.

Filipe De Sousaripper3 Monday, June 12, 2006 7:00:55 PM

Fixed everything that was important to me, just a shame it still takes up 100% of my CPU time... sad it's getting so bad I've had to switch back to Firefox.
Also, it seems to be a common problem, but it doesn't show javascript menus properly. Such as with www.batracer.com, which actually recommends enabling flash menus instead of javascript ones.

Dserldserl Monday, June 12, 2006 7:04:45 PM

Yeah,We need search fine work.

Dude DuderinoPawlCrux Monday, June 12, 2006 7:16:44 PM

When exactly did the "hit F6 to toggle widgets on and off" feaature disappear? or ist just a bug on my installation that nothings happens when i try to toggle?

Rafald.i.z. Monday, June 12, 2006 7:22:45 PM

Kc4 the Greatklingoncowboy4 Monday, June 12, 2006 7:23:33 PM

Hmm this build seems to be a bit bigger then the others...

Szőts Ákosszotsaki2 Monday, June 12, 2006 7:25:46 PM

Hurray! The installer contains Hungarian language. But there is a 'little' problem with this:
(The red text is the right. The black is the installer's.)

Tomas Björklundflyingscanian Monday, June 12, 2006 7:27:30 PM

"the error console shouldn't pop up every 20 seconds or so"

Great! Now if you could stop it from appairing every 5 seconds or so it would be pretty darn good! ;-)

I get a lot of error messages when I have speech activated. For example there is an error message every time I switch tabs. Turning of speech makes it stop.

Alexis DeveriaFyrd Monday, June 12, 2006 7:29:07 PM

Great to see the searches working again, one minor problem through: previously the up/down arrow keys would let you select your search engine, now they won't so I'm forced to use the mouse (the horror!).

SaschaSKolb Monday, June 12, 2006 7:30:14 PM

Works fine here ,
I can not reproduce the popup error console with the latest build (classic installer (update))

However I miss in the BlockContent menu the already blocked image adresses , if I look into the details. Its just empty. Same for u guys ?

Tomas Björklundflyingscanian Monday, June 12, 2006 7:32:53 PM

Going to pages with videos on http://www.alexrlevy.com/vfx/robotattack.html makes Opera crash every time. If I reopen Opera with the last tabs open, the video on the open tab works. But again, opening a new page makes Opera crash.

Edit: It might just be my computer. That page now crashes in Firefox and IE also. The strange stuff is that it worked (in Opera) before this build.

TopiMrFukov Monday, June 12, 2006 7:45:17 PM

@flyingscanian:
That page works fine.

Paweł GniadkowskielNino Monday, June 12, 2006 7:47:04 PM

Since last 3-4 weekly versions I have to enable plugins (e.g. FlashPlugin) at every Opera start. (Unix)

harlekyn Monday, June 12, 2006 7:48:33 PM

Hm, now I've got a German Opera... This sucks - why am I not asked what version will be installed? I'm using a German Windows, too - but always liked the English Opera version more. Any hint on how to get the English version back?

GrahamGort Monday, June 12, 2006 7:55:25 PM

OK, does anyone have this issue with cookies? I have my general preference to delete cookies on exit, however some of the sites that I have logged into seem to retain their cookies even after exit, so I find myself automatically logged into the sites when I restart the application and go to the pages. I haven't got these sites in my Site Preferences to save the cookies after exit despite the general setting, so it can't be for that reason. I did try before with the Site Preferences to save the cookies on various sites a few builds ago, but that didn't work so I just deleted those Site Preferences entries. Other cookies are deleted fine, just some of the log in ones on the sites that I have saved via the Wand. Actually, some site's log in cookies aren't saved. The sites that seem to affect me with cookies saved over sessions are my.opera.com and forum.digitalspy.co.uk.

Linux build 333, shared, .6; Mandriva 2006.0 and KDE 3.4.2.

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Monday, June 12, 2006 7:59:10 PM

@harlekyn

Strange, I just did an upgrade install, got MSI's language drop-down and simply changed to English. You may just install over your existing (current) build and do the same. Otherwise install an older version, then the new and choose English in the drop-down.

Personally I'd rather have British English than US ... (grin)

The handling of widgets changed in Beta 2. Use the Widgets menu or Widgets panel now.

Piotr GontarczykVega_PCLab Monday, June 12, 2006 8:01:26 PM

1. Tooltips on web pages are gone in this build. How can I enable them??? Now I have no clue what URL's are behind all links.
2. I'm using ENG Windows XP with regional settings set to Poland and I once I've installed this build my Opera language has changed to polish without my permission; no prompts, no questions - What the hell? How am I supposed to get english Opera back? I know it's Beta but still, it's unacceptable!
3. No way to downgrade this build. After succesful b8455 installation, Opera build is still 8482!

I tried to replicate this, but found the weirdest problem: I couldn't select another language. Well, I selected another language, but the installer switched to Dutch anyway on the 'Start' screen. Is that just my system acting up?

Alexis DeveriaFyrd Monday, June 12, 2006 8:06:38 PM

Looks like the "Title: " and "Address: " prefixes are back in this build (Mac), despite the status bar being on. I hope you guys didn't change your mind on removing them?

Simon Houstonshoust Monday, June 12, 2006 8:07:41 PM

@ Vega_PCLab

If you have the status bar on, thats turns url tooltips off.

Ilja Nedilkouniorzeroman Monday, June 12, 2006 8:09:58 PM

It's steel very much bugs in Opera 9...

Piotr GontarczykVega_PCLab Monday, June 12, 2006 8:12:57 PM

shoust - thanks! But I don't know what enabled it. I have checked my 8455 backup (made right before 8482 instllation) and it's disabled. Oh well. wink

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Monday, June 12, 2006 8:13:07 PM

- http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage still had to be reloaded manually by me before I am shown logged in (worked in O8.xx and some later builds)

- http://www.iview-multimedia.com; Flash movie still too high obstructing the menu when O9 ID's as Opera or Mozilla, works correctly when ID is IE

- http://www.salon.com can still not be read with a sponsored site pass because after watching the frontpage directly goes back to the "View ad" tunnel page. This may be connected to other Flash problems since all ads I can remember are Flash'ed

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Monday, June 12, 2006 8:15:10 PM

As for the RSS icon: I am all for the blue one, never liked the other when I first saw it in Opera some time back. The blue one is easy to understand, the other one has to be learned (and I still overlook it because it isn't obvious what it means).
