And why does the transfer window open when I save an image?
I know I can turn this off, but doing so disables it for all d/ls.
also when viewing radar animation on weather.com, animation stops after first loop.(linux).... http://www.weather.com/weather/map/78218?name=index_large_animated&from=LAPmaps&day=1

And, yes, opera9 has bugs. But there mut be something to do tomorrow
kubiku # 20. June 2006, 08:35
compliments for official release. its a great internet experience improvement since 8.5. not comparing even with others on the market.
if you are up-to-date with weekly/nightly/dayly/hourly, the final release is not a surprise. you know it well, changes are fluent and not so significant. yet, what a jump it is for "typical user".
good job guys!

Why does the transfer window open when I save an image?
Same question as Helenka:
Why MSI doesn't ask for location of profile?
Same qestion as many users here:
Isn't it too early for a final Opera9?

yes, I guess the weeklies, dailys, weekendlys, etc will keep flowing, for the serious peeps, but you gotta think of the 'normal guys' who are too nervous for betas or previews!!
it may not have all your features yet, but by going final, it will get a lot more supporters!!
also, the aug PCPRO(office 2007 on cover) has a review of the opera 9 beta!
that should help a lot to 'raise the profile' of opera!!

IBM WebSphere Application Server V 5.x Administrative Console website is not displayed correctly in all Opera versions. I'm forced to use Firefox etc at this point.
Note that website of V6.x console was modified so that this works pretty well in Opera.

when build no. will reach 9000. But now we got only 8501, so we must wait until... hm... maybe Christmas... next Christmas.
phreax9802 # 20. June 2006, 09:30
That said, it still require a lot of tweaking, for example the Flash issue on http://soccernet.espn.go.com/section?id=worldcup&cc=3436
In my opinion this can scare the average user who won't bother tweaking all the settings to get the rendering issue correct. I'm afraid they will turn away from O9.
Should release a better build. Just my two cents

Products have bugs, and Opera has to balance the limited resources it has with getting a product out into the market.
There are many wonderful new features and some are IMO essential and need to be in an "official" release ASAP. That brings regressions and bugs, and we have all followed along.
For those saying, release in 3 months - you would probably say that in 3 months too - new features in the rendering engine / UI would cause new regressions and we'd all have pet bugs.
I have pet bugs I wish were fixed in 9.0, but to expect all bugs fixed is a fantasy. We can be passionate about opera (which is good), but please don't start getting bitter because your pet bugs were not fixed. There are a lot of new and exciting features, and a vastly superior rendering core in a shipping product.

I am in a software company myself, and to be honest, we would never allow a product to be released as "final" when some relevant known issues are not fixed yet.
Maybe it were the marketing people having booked their flights to Seattle yesterday and wanting to have something to present today, no matter how many obvious bugs are still in it.
Well, keep the good work going on. Opera 9.0 is a great browser, but software is never finished, and I am looking forward to 9.01.
Cheers, Herwig

However no one else seems to have had the same installation choice and it's definitely this new version I was installing.
MossMan # 20. June 2006, 09:55
I can understand people saying "keep a perspective", but I personally experienced a marked INCREASE in bugs for the last few builds!!!
sebt # 20. June 2006, 09:59
Starting with a fresh Opera profile seems to fix the problem... so what do I need to "fix" in the config files to sort this out?

With the weeklies, Opera has opened up its development process a *lot*. You now see not only our strengths when we fix things, but also our regressions when we try to fix just one-more-bug-before-we-launch.
In order to avoid bigger and unforeseen problems, we sometimes have to *not* fix smaller issues late in the process. That doesn't mean we will not fix them as soon as we can in an update.
On a whole, Opera 9 is far ahead of 8.54 in both real-life site compatibility and most definitely in standards support. We can't keep these advantages from our regular users forever and today was the right time to make the jump.
Hope you all stick with us when we move forward towards the next upgrade!

Also, can Opera fix the download page to give the Mandriva version as 2006, rather than 10.1. There was never a Mandriva 10.1, because it was called Mandrake 10.1. Another thing a bit more serious is that Mandriva 2006 comes with libstdc++6, which should mean that those using the current version of Mandriva should be getting the shared 6 version and not the shared 5. This can be worked around by Mandriva users getting libstdc++5 from Contrib, but maybe it would be better if Opera's shared 6 version was offered instead.

I would tend to agree.. endless beta phases can grow "stale" and the wider community will usually not entertain using a product until it is officially released.
Personally I think the weekly builds and open development have been very productive for Opera and am grateful that this will continue.
Seb
Now, how do I fix that gaps in form edit controls problem?

I hope the Opera engineering organization will be able to tightly focus on bug fixing for the 9.01 release. Limit it to only one or two minor new features (so the release headline isn't just "lots of bug fixes"). Try to have the entire desktop & core engineering teams work (at least part-time) on the 9.01 bug fixing exercise.
Thanks, Opera Desktop Team!
