Hotmail problem:

1. Went to my Inbox with Hotmail
2. Clicked on a new mail
3. The mail did not open

It looked just like the Flash issue where interactivity didn't work 100%.

On Hotmail it neiter works with Site Preferences Cookies set to Accept [all] cookies nor to Accept only cookies from the site.

The log-in bug seems to be back, too: I have to r4eload the page to see me as logged in although I am permanently in there.

General Preferences cookies allowed from site only, Site Preferences for this one allow all cookies.

@Ravindran: Bug number?

Junyor,
- Haven't filed a bug yet. Raised the issue quite a few times with earlier builds. Didn't get any reply. So I thought this is a known issuue.

Please let me know how, where to file the bug?

Any chance of fixing the ugly and very distracting Flash Of Unstyled Content still present in Opera 9?

lolc Thursday, July 13, 2006 3:28:33 AM

@MisterE: Hmm, seems like the windows build has no problem with Ctrl-F. I am using Fedora Linux FC5.
Everytime I press Ctrl-F to search for a word, Opera stops responding to any key press.

Cryptobionika Thursday, July 13, 2006 5:07:29 AM

Hello people. Maybe I was quite annoying reporting about same old problems in Opera, if one person sent me private message, asking me to be more polite. I think this person didn't like "please" part in my "please, pay attention..." addressing. Also, the same person reported that "Attach Files" button in Yahoo! Mail works in this build. Well, I'm very glad for this person, but since I made a survey and everyone who was using Yahoo! Mail and took the survey answered that "Attach Files" button doesn't work for them, I have my doubts about this person's report.
This would also be my last remindment about Yahoo! Mail pages scrolling upper than they should, after I close and re-open Opera again.

SUGGESTION: If I close Opera with my Yahoo! mailbox open, and don't use "Delete Private Data", the next person who is using computer may open Opera and see all my mails. So I think it would be better to make Opera reload the page to prompt for ID and password again, not to let anybody who use computer after me see my mails.

Thanks.

P.S. Please, don't be paranoidally overpolite, we're talking normally here. It's just a normal discussion, not White House' conference room.

Ravindran NavaneethanRavindran Thursday, July 13, 2006 5:19:15 AM

Fetching new mails multiple times for IMAP account problem is still there in this build.

- Bug 220068 filed.

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Thursday, July 13, 2006 6:53:49 AM

Anybody else noticed the inconsistency between the banner-like "217 comments" and the number reported at the end of the page?

While I got the 217 at the top beside the announcement, at the bottom it says "Showing comments xxx-214" ...

Paul SkinnerPaulSkinner Thursday, July 13, 2006 10:29:34 AM

@Evo2Me: I would guess the top banner-like one is counting deleted comments, while the bottom ones disregard them.

Paul SkinnerPaulSkinner Thursday, July 13, 2006 10:38:40 AM

Opera doesn't automatically associate the .swf MIME Type with the Adobe Flash (9) plugin, so if you go to:

http://pico.p0ser.de/fun/flashs/zidane.swf

You will be asked to download the .swf file instead of viewing it in Opera.

Anyone confirm?

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Thursday, July 13, 2006 11:22:09 AM

[...]with a site preference either for www.salon.com or salon.com and set it to accept all cookies. Try clearing out all your salon cookies.

Been there, done that - no success. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Works fine here, never associated SWF manually.

MisterE Thursday, July 13, 2006 11:32:05 AM

@Cryptobionika: no problem attaching files in yahoo (sent a message ok with both a text file and an archive attached). I have a clean install though.

There is a (old) problem with yahoo mail though and that is the big blank space above the page content. I had it since before the final and it happens all the time.

Why is getting Flash to work so hard? Even the most obscure Mac browser at version 1.0 works right. I've been an Opera user for a while. Even paid before it went free. This issue, coupled with a more frequent occurance of sites that don't work/block Opera has me very discouraged.

er0k Thursday, July 13, 2006 2:32:03 PM

I skimmed through the comments and didn't see this mentioned, but the last two weeklies since v9.0 have overwritten my custom search.ini file. Any way to retain these settings during upgrades?

What issue?

Why can't people learn to be specific instead of making vague comments like "Flash doesn't work". Flash does work. If it doesn't work for you, be more specific.

NTLM still doesn't work with my "at work" proxy. It's ISA 2004, do not know what version. Opera9 before the Betas worked (badly), Opera9 final and following do not work at all. sad

Oh and after finding out that Opera/Mac will not have NTLM **EVER**, sad((

MisterE Thursday, July 13, 2006 2:54:28 PM

@er0k: it has never overwritten mine (windows, 8518). I used the classic install (always).

MrFrodo Thursday, July 13, 2006 3:47:20 PM

OK Nilsen, here you go.

Flash remoting, as mentioned in a previous weekly thread, is broken again. We use ColdFusion generated Flash forms on our intranet (behind login - sorry Devs) that stopped working with the last weekly or weekly before. It was broken under 8.x at one point, then fixed in a late 8.x or 9 version, now broken again.

Also, these 2 sites: m2design.com (Recent Work area) and misterhayes.com (gallery area) work fine in every other browser.

And, as mentioned in this thread (which contains a bug number):
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=129612

the About menu on arobotics.com flickers oddly over the flash. Not in FF (it does in Safari, however).

I am a frequent poster here. I apparently incorrectly assumed the devs. didn't need to here all the gory specifics _every time_ i bring this same issue up. My bad. I'll keep this and repost it after every release that has this issue.

How's that?

Edit:
This is with the Flash 9.018 9.0.16 plug in. Reverting to Flash 8 plugin works. This is in Mac Opera latest build.

Kamaleshkamalesh Thursday, July 13, 2006 3:50:37 PM

Using Mac build:

Wanted to point out that Mac Opera seems to be getting denigrated because of significantly slower JS speeds. I used build 3466 for testing it on my side.

Not certain if the JS test is completely valid, but if it is, please consider better optimization (since Opera is quite powerful in all other areas).

Cheers,

Will the source code viewer ever be updated?
I mean basic things such as line numbers or word wrap toggle on and off? Or what would be really sweet would be, once oyu edit the document, instead of just saving, have it upload back to the server with some small/basic ftp options in the toolbar along with the save and reload from cache options.

this is not really a feature request. more of a question if improvement is planned? however, I would like to know if anyone else agrees that these are needed?

FataL Thursday, July 13, 2006 6:48:24 PM

@kyleabaker: many of people including me already agree that line numbering is a must for any source viewer or editor. Just don't know why such easy but essential feature not included in Opera 9 final...

FataL Thursday, July 13, 2006 7:29:39 PM

@mgillespie: how you can have [.] in editor? You need [Ctrl]+[some key]
Rather than that Find dialog should has checkbox that on/off all found text.

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Thursday, July 13, 2006 8:39:13 PM

@mgillespie & FataL
The [.] find feature is out of the question for a text editor (since it would actually type the [.]). But one way to fix this is to have a permanent find bar at the bottom of the textarea. Much like the FF Ctrl+F searchbar at the bottom. This would keep the search bar out of the way of the textarea and then those who like the Ctrl+F box could still use it and hide the search bar. This bar could function the same as the [.] find does, in that it tells you how many matches found and none if no matches are found. seems to me the best possible design. altho sometimes textediting searches need to be multiline searchable, but that is a different matter. lol.

Funny, they are weeding out most of the code handling bugs, now we are weeding out functionality bugs as well, haha. In the end, we get a perfect browser. wink

EDIT: did some quick screenshot editing. here is what i would imagine these features to fit in and look like...
http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/9783/untitled1zv.jpg

MrFrodo Thursday, July 13, 2006 8:59:01 PM

Source viewer issues best handled by changing Prefs > Advanced > Programs > Choose application for viewing source - to something other than Opera. It's easier on the devs.

;-)

FataL Thursday, July 13, 2006 9:10:18 PM

@kyleabaker: search box with their controls shoud be in the right top corner. We don't need one more toolbar. Also in Opera by default search box appers in right top corner. So, that is only one right place for it.
BTW, nice screenshot! up

FataL Thursday, July 13, 2006 9:17:51 PM

@MrFrodo: In your opinion Opera sholdn't write their own editor/source viewer at all?
In my opinion very simple but useful editor/source viewer is a plus for Opera.

MrFrodo Thursday, July 13, 2006 9:22:38 PM

@FataL

No, not necessarily. I just think they have bigger fish to fry, and if you need more functionality then you most likely have/should get a real editor with more functionality than could ever be put into Opera's.

That said, line numbers would be nice. ;-)

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Thursday, July 13, 2006 9:25:24 PM

@FataL
You have a valid point my friend, haha. You liked the last one, mmehaha, wait til you try this one...

Man, I get bored waiting here for a surprise update on a non-friday. I wish we knew more about the fixes and what little tweaks they were working on in that tight Desktop Team coding circle, haha.

This link posted earlier is sweet...

Also, Opera is doing well with the CSS's. Most of these work well!...

As we draw near to the end of the week, I'm getting nervous.

Just how is 9.01 final going to be released? Just sprung, as in 9.00, or like in some 8.x versions, where you float what you intend as the final on the FTP, and if an insufficient number of serious problems are found, then release it wide a few days later?

I strongly suggest the latter, and I'm still surprised it wasn't done with 9.00.

FataL Thursday, July 13, 2006 10:26:04 PM

@kyleabaker: that's even better. up
Only couple more things to be perfect mockup: wink
  • Opera doesn't use labels for search fields. So, consider removing "Find:" label
  • "Highlight all" control would be nice beside search field

Whenever I try to go into Google Calendar it never finishes either rendering the calendar or even finding my existing calendars. I started using Opera on my MacBook Pro with Opera 9, and I am pretty sure this was working with it masked as Mozilla, because I deleted Firefox (it was the only thing I used FireFox for). sad I turned on the console window for errors and this is what it says (if this isn't the right place for this, please let me know and sorry). "this is not really a feature request. more of a question if improvement is planned?"

Hah! I love it. Sneaky users like to put in enhancement requests for us all the time like that.

"It doesn't work *like I want/expect*, therefore it's a bug"

Having said that the newly added (remember that) source code viewer could do with a few enhancements but this isn't the place for that.

daninel Friday, July 14, 2006 7:56:57 AM

@morwen, Google Calendar work fine with last windows build, but very slow with last Linux build. The only thing is wait about Opera and Google to make everything fine! I hope so! smile
