"Cookies are now autosaved"
What does it mean?

And by the way:
Serious cookie problem still not fixed:

W00t! A mayor annoyance is fixed :D

lookin good! :wink:

HerwigF 24. July 2006, 17:21

Unfortunately the login at webmailer.1und1.com (as Evo2Me already reported for the last build) still does not work in Opera, while it does in IE and FF.

Since the problem obviously is caused by the change at 1und1 a few days ago, I have filed them a complaint now. Maybe if Opera does not correct the problem, perhaps 1und1 fixes it at last. If not, Opera might lose a large number of users since 1und1 is probably the biggest Internet provider in Germany.

I would also greatly appreciate if the hotkey list (Shift+ESC)...
- could be removed with the ESC key (instead of Shift+ESC again),
- would not be displayed in reverse order compared to the page,
- would also work in frames, as it does in IE and FF,
- would allow an alternative single key instead of Shift+ESC.

Cheers, Herwig

Twilo 24. July 2006, 17:32

thanks for this build :-)

Kawime 24. July 2006, 17:35

@HerwigF

How should Opera work with this JavaScript?
/---
if( _isOpera ) {
// opera 7.6pr1's support of XMLHttpRequest still buggy
// - no setRequestHeader()
// - Content-Length: 0

// deactivate XMLHttpRequest
XML_Request.builtin = false;

// use iframes instead, if allowed by configuration
XML_Request.prototype.iframes = XML_Request.prototype.iframes || 1;
}
---/
https://webmailcluster.1und1.de/core/script/xmlRequest.js

We also have a discussion my German forum. IMHO that's not a bug in Opera. :wink:

Evo2Me 24. July 2006, 18:08

@Herwig

Unfortunately the login at webmailer.1und1.com (as Evo2Me already reported for the last build)

Thanks you for ascribing this to me, although I cannot remember doing it. Can't remember who actually reported it but I can now confirm that it is impossible to log-in.

My - usual - report is the Roger Ebert one, which, BTW, still only shows me as logged-in after I reload the frontpage (I guess there is other sites, too).

As for the Salon.com absurdities, I am investigating further but are at a loss. JFI: I uninstalled Opera, installed the current build afresh, went to Salon and everything worked fine. I then copied over my plug-ins and profile folder (didn't want to loose my precious settings, widgets etc.). Went to Salon, loop problem. I then opened every editable file in TextPad, deleted every hint of Salon in them. Went to the Website, didn't work, looped.

If someone has an idea ...

ekhaatvensters 24. July 2006, 18:08

W00t! First in South Africa..

Probably first ever.. I just had to get a first some time and this is the closest ive ever been okay.

im not downloading this build, too little has changed for me to waste my precious South African bandwidth.

But nice work in general.

IMO Opera 9.01 should have been Opera 9 final. You guys still would have been WAY ahead of the new FF or IE.

There already is a bug report on that.

Bill_P 24. July 2006, 19:05

Pandora widget will still not work in Linux

MartinezZ 24. July 2006, 19:33

Please, how can I in Opera easyly enable/disable FLASH plugin? I still work in dial-up and flash is necessary only sometimes and flash animations and banners are mostly big and good-for-nothing.

This is light off-topic, I know - sorry...

Darken 24. July 2006, 19:58

Monday Build! Ohhhh, nice. :up:

Soleen 24. July 2006, 19:59

Will this website work again in opera? Please answer :-(
http://gazeta.ru/lenta.shtml

The disabling inlide frame does not help either! :-(

tinhoy 24. July 2006, 20:10

@MartinezZ

create a keyboard or mouse shortcut with the following definition: Enable Plugins | Disable Plugins

caveat: you'll need to reload the page for the change to take effect.

saulob 24. July 2006, 20:24

the transfer 'stopped' bug still alive...

bug-212175@bugs.opera.com

FataL 24. July 2006, 20:29

@Soleen: it seems that disabling inline frames not help in this build, but in previous builds it was... :frown:
What a shame that Russian community (which BTW has pretty equal percentage Opera users and FF users, which is rare situation) has problems with major news site in Russia.
P.S. to quick refresh of page use [*] button on the numeric keypad.

HeeZy 24. July 2006, 20:34

IP cookie bug is still in as well as the google search favicon bug.

healer 24. July 2006, 20:44

thank you

im having a problem, i dont know if somebody else here use nzb indexing sites, like binage.com. nzb is a xml file with .nzb extension and the file is opened with a newsreader (newsbin, newsleecher,...). i configured on Preferences/Transfer the file types and i configured the mime type text/xml as "nzb,xml" but i wanted to configure "text\xml" with extension xml to be opened with opera and "text\xml" with nzb extension to be opened with newsleecher. i did not found any way to do that, so if somebody could help me out i will be very glad.

[ ]'s

sorry the bad english

taussick 24. July 2006, 20:50

SiMcarD: that's a css issue.. when some CSS value is not set,every browser can show the final code differently,how the makers of the browser core think it's best to show..

igorditerni 24. July 2006, 21:01

Windows build:

http://www.iwbank.it (i can't login).

http://mail.tiscali.it (i can't read e-mail even if i can login).

Download problem: i'm downloading Panda antivirus platinum 2007 beta but if i stop the download process, when i restart it, Opera restart at the beginning (i have downloaded 10 Mb and now i have to redownload all 43.9 Mb).

Thank you.

Ciao, Igor

I am using Opera 9.01 build 8542 and the site works fine. What seems to be the problem?

porneL 24. July 2006, 21:54

Yup. Cookies are still broken. del.icio.us still can't see I'm logged in when I post via bookmarklet on Mac Opera (maybe that's the same kind of problem as 'bonus bug' on Zajec's test case?)

ausplaya 24. July 2006, 22:22

Please, please please fix printing from selected frame! so many builds, never a fix :-(

delfo 24. July 2006, 22:33

Problem with menues using javascript like:
www.agenziaentrate.it (try to using menues)
http://www.tv.com/alias/show/3451/episode_listings.html?tag=tabs;episodes (try to press the yellow button)

A lot of build - never works.
Thanks in advance

For the first: change the ESC mapping under Application from "Set widget mode, 0 | Cancel current voice" to "Leave access key mode | Set widget mode, 0 | Cancel current voice".
For the second add the mapping you like for action "Enter access key mode | Leave access key mode".
I don't think they'll "fix" those as long as you can "fix" them yourself.

Pandora doesn't seem to work on windows either.

@MartinezZ: you can also disable/enable flash using F12 then "Enable plugins". A reload is required though.

And yes, the cookie bug (not sending cookies to the server the first time - refresh needed) is still here and it's a regression from final. Please fix this before releasing 9.01.

@igorditerni: the download starting from the beginning might be because the site doesn't support resume function. If that's the case, no download manager will be able to resume it, so you can test this easily.

omeow 24. July 2006, 22:46

Seems like the favicon issue with digg has been resolved. But I still have some issues with certain bookmarks on my personal bar, I have several bookmarks to different forums on the same board, and only 1 receives a favicon, the others just get a star. This is on a board running vBulletin Version 3.5.4.

Not sure how to reproduce, because when I click the URL, then drag it to my bar, it receives the favicon properly. *shrugs*

Again some notes on the spellchecker interface;
It would be helpful if Opera could scroll the input field to focus on the word that is being highlighted. Sometimes I have a lot of text in a text area and can't see the word because Opera doesn't allow me to scroll the text area. The spell checker steals focus and has to be closed in order to be able to scroll the textfield.

For example if you have a misspelled word in the top of your message and you're browsing the last part, you wouldn't be able to see the misspelled word if you already started spell checking.

Furthermore, the misspelled word is to be replaced with the misspelled word by default. Wouldn't it make more sense to give the replace input field value the first suggested word from the list?
This would certainly speed things up a little since you currently have to click the suggested correction and then click replace. (sometimes accidentally clicking the sorting header, making it even more slower to use. Why can you sort that list anyway?)

Finally, would it be possible to integrate the spell checker in a panel instead of a dialog? The first thing I do when I open the spell checker is move it out of the way because it almost always covers the text I just wrote.

Add a site specific style sheet with the following

Many of us have been asking to fix the FAST-BACK that Opera had before 9.0... But I discovered that the Fast-back functionality is still there but it is DISABLED by default!

Opera sets the User Pref->History Navigation Mode to "1" but it should be "3". I can't find anywhere other than in opera:config/opera6.ini to set this and since I have seen many people asking for this I thought I'd post here.

This is a BIG feature for opera, and should be set to the old mode by default. Perhaps there could be some kind of "compatibility" mode and a "fast" mode that could alternate between this and other features. But seriously, shouldn't Fast-back be enabled by default?!

non-troppo 25. July 2006, 00:32

porneL : i reported the bookmarklet cookie bug some time ago (#195890) - opera fails to send cookies on javascript initiated requests. The workaround is to click the collapsed address bar to expand it, then [ENTER] the address URL (you need to do it a few times due to another bug) and the page will load.

You can also try this modified bookmarklet - which basically opens a window first, then "clicks" the URL for you:

javascript:(function(){ var w = window.open(); w.document.write('link');w.document.links[0].click();})()

syplex: 1 is not disabled - it is compatibility mode which enables it unless a heuristic determines it is needed. The heuristic is not always right. You can use override.ini to set it on a site-by-site basis

syplex 25. July 2006, 00:35

Also there is a bug that has been around for awhile that I just remembered.

When entering data in a form on a page with a meta-refresh set, when the page refreshes ALL of the form content is gone and not saved anywhere. I just had this happen WHILE I WAS TYPING in the form! I think this should probably be saved in the history so I can hit BACK and have all of my typed-in content available.

deadhed 25. July 2006, 01:04

On all 9 builds when viewing videos at youtube the fullscreen video won't play unless the video loads all the way on the small screen first.

Investor 25. July 2006, 01:40

WOW... great build, no slow start, freeze, or crash, after 4 hrs. testing... :up:

@Argai : http://gazeta.ru/lenta.shtml ... "I am using Opera 9.01 build 8542 and the site works fine. What seems to be the problem?"...

Hmm... something funny going on here... in fit to width content navigated by separate scrollbar is not shown... Open/close panel, or reduce page to ie. 90% zoom, displays that missing content... ???... (btw. same as in 8542)

(wb 8543 msi - out of the box - win 32 XP sp2 - java 1.5 - 348 mhz 256 ram - broadband)

syplex 25. July 2006, 01:45

Text-searching has a weird coloring bug: when there is more than one search result on a line, the currently highlighted search result will be impossible to see (black text with a dark blue selection box) whereas normally it will be white text with the dark blue box.

Here is an example:

Notice how the last instance of "new" shows up correctly? It is on a line by itself without any other hits!

witit 25. July 2006, 01:51

Same problem as the last build:
"Strange! My google adsense report > overview > adsense for content > top channels dropdown window immediately closes itself when clicked open. It should have stayed open until clicked again."

Have to revert once more time to 8533

Witit

Icfu 25. July 2006, 02:37

This must be the worst Opera build I have ever tried.

100% CPU usage on virtually everything I do in Opera, unusable for everyday usage. Still the problem with incredibly slow startup speed, especially with big bookmarks and urlfilter.ini. Cutting and pasting bookmarks trees needs ages, high risk of data loss 'cause still no backups of the most important files are done.

What have I done to deserve my favourite browser turning into THAT, a resource hog like A-crap-at Reader 6?

Please, dear Opera Software, make your browser SHAREWARE again and pay your developers.

Icfu (still loving 8.54 until the next bug would force an upgrade)

Investor 25. July 2006, 04:00

@Icfu : " This must be the worst Opera build I have ever tried. "

Hmm... must be something totally wrong with your install... as this is truly the best build my "old" PC has seen ... :wink:

I still have few problems.

NTLM is still a problem. Not https sites do crash, but opera keeps downloading the page and just continues, but never renders a page. Check https://mail.yahoo.com.

Also table width corruption bug still seems to be there. (May be column width adjustments bug.)
I do not see anything for following site.

in.finance.yahoo.com

(in auther mode, you do not see anything. But in user mdoe, you can see that a table should be there) This bug has been there since 8482 and bug report was filed. Nothing has happened since thennn!!!!!!!!!!!!. See my posts.)

thanks for all the work!

Unfortunately the "freeze" problem still exists.
After surfing a couple of sites Opera freezes for ~20sec (i.e. not responding).
The same issue has been reported by user "tidester".

To reproduce, do the following:
go to "www.sport1.de", click on a few links to open new tabs
and wait a little -> after a few seconds it freezes.

Notice that the "freeze" does not happen in build 8460.

HerwigF 25. July 2006, 05:41

@EVO2ME: Sorry, the first bug report about webmailer.1und1.com came from Arayn, just a few lines above a message from you, I mixed it up.

@KAWINE: Thanks for the Javascript analysis. It is quite obvious that the webmailer problem was caused by a change at 1und1 just a few days ago, but I did not look further into it yet. As I wrote, I have already filed a complaint to 1&1, so they "should" fix it.

@SCIPIO: Your bug report says that the hotkeys do not work in frames. Thanks, that was one of my points. I had a few more suggestions how to improve the handling after I have added accesskey tags to some web pages. In general, I prefer the way Opera does this, since it displays a list of all accesskeys on a page. In other browsers like IE and FF you cannot even see which accesskeys exist if they are not mentioned explicitely.

Cheers, Herwig

EDIT (08:08 GMT): 1und1 have answered my complaint and promise to fix their webmailer script ASAP.

gli 25. July 2006, 05:49

There's still nothing in the 'links' panel when reading mail whith links in the message body! :frown:
