Almost 9.10 RC1

We are getting close to 9.10 RC1..

Known issues
  • Finnish language files went missing in the package building. (Our finnish localization manager is not too happy..)
  • Gzipped pages are not decoded when loaded from cache, so some pages will sometimes look broken when visited a second time

Changes since last weekly
  • Source editor text "reload from cache" now reads "Apply changes"
  • Fixed 100% CPU on google maps and some other pages
  • Fixed an issue with opacity on links that have images nested in them
  • Find in page now has colors that are easier to see, while also being configurable (opera:config#Colors|HighlightedBackground)
  • Some fixes to Search in hotclick menu
  • Removed "Open when download complete" from File type dialog (while we fix it..)
  • Fixed accesskeys on pages with frames
  • Several fixes to Fraud protection
  • Fixed crash when changing file handler on UNIX
  • Now also UNIX has its Mask as IE mask the platform as well
  • A lot of memory leaks plugged and crashers removed
  • Fixed problem finding nested IMAP mailboxes
  • Fixed problem with Chinese and Korean text input

superb post! can't wait to try.

edit: I think gzipped page problem affects too many people, very annoying bug and a specific bug fix for this problem beofre friday would be perfect.

edit 2: i am downgrading, it's impossible to surf with this version unfortunately sad

xRadiation Friday, November 3, 2006 4:28:13 PM

Panning while zoomed is still broken in the linux version of opera and has been broken since build 181, can it please be sorted out by now, if i zoom right in untill both scroll bars show and try panning, it never pans to the right, even if you can use the scroll bar to move right, and while panning i can never get to the bottom of a page.

WILL THIS EVER BE FIXED!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!

Got it, thanks again! bigsmile

Keithkeithlai Friday, November 3, 2006 4:45:32 PM

I have waited for a long time. I am excited to try the new builds.

Thanks!

pcormier Friday, November 3, 2006 4:45:58 PM

Downloaded and installed... thanks!

But one problem already.

Go to www.espn.com and then click on a link at the top (NFL perhaps). Then, after the page is loaded, go back to the previous page... All I see is a bunch of ASCII chars...

Anyone else seeing this?

rseiler Friday, November 3, 2006 4:47:18 PM

"Some fixes to Search in hotclick menu"

Which I take to mean that the right-click "Search with" is now always sticky no matter which one you choose. Testing with this build seems to bear this out, so hooray. I don't know when this problem first started (9.00 or 9.01; it's also in 9.02 but didn't start there), but it's been around for a while and has been quite annoying.

Non-Tropponon-troppo Friday, November 3, 2006 4:47:50 PM

MAJOR REGRESSION: any gzipped site is not decoded when reloaded from the cache...

edit: pcormier - this is what you are seeing. Basically many sites gzip encode their documents. This build will fail on any page when you reopen any element that has been gzipped, you get the gzipped content directly. Thus documents look garbled, CSS / JS will fail etc.

Non-Tropponon-troppo Friday, November 3, 2006 4:51:33 PM

rseiler: search remembering last engine not completely fixed, works in origin window but fails in the new window the search spawns for me...

rseiler Friday, November 3, 2006 4:54:57 PM

Great connection to gzip, non-troppo. Considering the sheer number of sites that use gzip, wouldn't this be grounds for a recall?

Zaferarzafen Friday, November 3, 2006 4:56:35 PM

I think there is a problem with "reload". When I reload the page, it shows a buggy page and I think it disables the javascript. Making reload does not help until I delete the whole cache.

MathiasMathchoustone Friday, November 3, 2006 4:57:44 PM

Thanks for the build !

C.Felipecafesote Friday, November 3, 2006 4:59:25 PM

Finally we can change the Highlighted Background.
Thanks!

Tracio Friday, November 3, 2006 5:02:23 PM

Unless my version is completely screwed up (static on Edgy running it from the tarball) or I am missing something obvious...

When disabling fraud protection there's no way to perform a manual check for the current site (the icon on the address field is removed) as opposed to the previous build; it seems that now if you want to perform a manual check you are basically doomed.

Is there any reason for this?. In the previous build the feature had 2 modes, now it has been reduced to 1; those who were concerned about privacy liked the option to perform a manual check but now they are forced to use the "auto-mode" (which they do not want in the first place) if they use the feature.

Forcing the users to use the "auto-mode" is a no-go, imo.

rseiler Friday, November 3, 2006 5:03:00 PM

What is the toolbar icon between the Wand and the Address Bar field supposed to be? After experimenting on the ESPN site earlier, mine's turned into an ESPN icon. When I click it, I go to ESPN. How did that happen?

Note that I'm not speaking of the favicon shown *within* the Address Bar field.

Tim AltmanJunyor Friday, November 3, 2006 5:06:50 PM

@non-troppo: Yes, we're aware of this issue. Toman has added it as a known issue.

@Tracio: Press Ctrl+I.

@rseiler: You probably dragged the favicon for ESPN to the toolbar, creating a bookmark button.

YOKEYyokey Friday, November 3, 2006 5:10:21 PM

accesskeys not found on site http://my.opera.com/community/ or http://www.opera.com/ and site etc. in 9.10 RC1

Thanks for the new build!

Keithkeithlai Friday, November 3, 2006 5:11:14 PM

Some web pages on www.apple.com crashes and cannot run the quicktime to see some advertisement.

Bill PBill_P Friday, November 3, 2006 5:13:21 PM

I think I'm experiencing similar to arzafen with this page initially displaying with what appears to be no formatting but if I clear the cache and reload the page it displays correctly - but the exact same happens if I open another page on this site.

This is a pretty major regression imho

woudenberg Friday, November 3, 2006 5:14:37 PM

Is it already possible to use the media buttons on the keyboard again?

desmasic Friday, November 3, 2006 5:14:44 PM

I used classic version to update my old install (since I can't stand setting up the shortcuts and bar settings again every time). So anyway, I can't view Digg properly, all tables in articles come up screwed (comments). Can't see anything properly.

Tim AltmanJunyor Friday, November 3, 2006 5:16:08 PM

@woudenberg: It should be, yes.

Tyanah Friday, November 3, 2006 5:17:28 PM

great ! my CPU usage problem are solves

lexluthor5 Friday, November 3, 2006 5:17:40 PM

Is the problem with embedded Windows Media player 11 showing double sets of controls being worked on?

Here's one page where you can see the problem, but it's pretty widespread.
http://www.compfused.com/directlink/4146/

woudenberg, yes, the media buttons on the keyboard are working again, at least for me. That was fixed in the last build.

Kc4 the Greatklingoncowboy4 Friday, November 3, 2006 5:23:23 PM

all looks good to me

Non-Tropponon-troppo Friday, November 3, 2006 5:24:36 PM

Bill_P + arzafen - that is the cache bug I commented on above.

Tracio: you can bind "edit properties" to a button tool to check manually too:

Button to use: Check

Thank you guys for letting us have customizable colors for the search. I was waiting this since the feature was modified to use the (horrible) system default colors.
