Working hard...
By Johan Borg. Friday, 23. February 2007, 15:36:32
I hate to write posts like these, but I have to be honest with you: We're not ready to publish our new baby here today. I know, I promised you a new build before the end of the month and we will do whatever is humanly possible to ship a mid-weekly on wednesday (or at least next friday...)
You should also be warned that the next weekly will contain rough edges, it will contain incomplete functionality and should be good material for a serious bug hunt
Update:
The WebApplications blog just announced a Web chat next week with our CEO, Jon von Tetzchner.
Have a nice weekend!

My prediction:
Opera will be the 1st browser which will allow users to port all their information on to any device(that Opera runs on) and i'm not just talking about bookmarks.
Or it my be a new API which will alow javascript to debbug itself, and allow code stepping, adding breakpoints and all that.

by the way, using password for locked-screen (that exist in any os) can replace password opera manager, don't tack me as another enemy, i just suggest you to don't bother yourselves with such thing, of course if you concider useless
though, i prefer use my beloved browser's feature, if it was optimal
that's good reason, but some people give security more periority over usability, and some don't, you could make it as an option.

The smaller one is pretty simple, mac-specific, and inspired by Khaled Khalils post above: A Spotlight importer to be bundled with the application. It could not only index the obvious emails but also Notes, Contacts and Bookmarks. Feeds might be a bit counterproductive probably.
The other one is a big thing: Why not use the my.opera accounts that many of us have for the ability to store our entire set of preferences. Going from searches to bookmarks everything that's not machine-specific like proxys. It would be soooooo ultimately cool to be able to log in to every Opera anywhere and have your settings right there.

to be fair, it is Junyor's idea not mine, i don't index my mails.+1
that would be a very great idea, i use now 5 operas on 4 different systems (2 linux & 2 XP on 2 computers), and one OperaTor on an usb flash.
and i have i problem setting up all my preferences and customizations, but the biggest problem is for bookmarks and feeds, i never can bakup all of them as the same

If I guess right, most peeps wont be able to afford the 'debugger' needed for those builds anyway, or the **totally dedicated** machine to run it on.. Its most likely some 'virtual PC' running on AIX or similar - so unless you are a SQL or better programmer, you won even know how to start it.....

Also, passwords are generally more sensitive than your mail. But if the attacker already has full access to your system, both your mail and your passwords will be exposed in no time.
But I recommend that you move this discussion to the forums, as too many of these discussions in this blog will only cause noise like in the other blog post. The blogs are better suited for comments to the actual blog posts rather than long discussions. There are a lot of people who have something to say, so let them get the chance to be heard too.
