The Cheese Moveth

, ,

After eighteen years with the same company I've found that the cheese has moved.
No more feeding off the fresh and sustaining pile. Stagnation and a dwindling supply cannot one live by.
Not that I didn't see the change coming but it is still disheartening to be out of work.
Ha, ha.........not to fear. Like any good little mouse, I took notice of the change and had feelers out for opportunities.

After months of negotiation and perfect timing, I switched to a new company in a related market.
Whew! twas close. The feeling of not having the stability of steady income was not desirable. In these economic times it could be disastrous.

The change has been exciting and re-energized my batteries. I've been preoccupied and slacking regarding posts to this blog. As time goes by, I will fit regular posts into my schedule.

I hope all is well with you and your endeavors. May you have long days and pleasant nights.

After my daughter's operation, I gave her that cheese book! It was a favorite of hers when she was a tiny thing and she didn't remember it at all...

Dave, congratulations  It happened in my industry (tv & radio). Fortunately I was also able to plan well before the 'event' and I survived too  Here's a few words on the moral of these things ( you can nominate me as 'best people's poet', if Opera ever get short of valid categories to put out for popular vote) :D

The Committee met. It never said
what was going inside its head.
Instead it opened up a box,
pulled out an accountant wearing clocks.

"My Lords", he said, "you brought me in
to show you how to Win and Win
and in this manner I proclaim
The Way To Stay Ahead Of The Game.
We need to 'spin off' something new,
invent a wheel and glue the glue.

We need to raise big Cap-it-al
then take over something small
and then another in the game
then more of these in the same frame,
until our 'spansion covers all
the minnows who come in our trawl"

The Committee smiled. This man of clocks,
this Con-sul-tant from out the box,
had all their ear, had all their heart,
intently fo-cussed on The Art.
They nodded with that corporate head
and then went safely home to bed.

The accountant reached inside the box,
brought out his team, all had their clocks,
and they sat down and drew a graph
with marks and squiggles in a path
that 'X'd an office, here and there,
and "Y'd the people, in a snare
that covered over 'bottom line',
a cutesy curve that said "Here's Fine!"
and without a pause for breath
filled in a spread-sheet marked with Eff.

The day they "spun off" Division Zee
was darker than the deepest sea.
They sold it to The MurdocMan
whose soul was smaller than a gram
of wind expelled into high space,
and then they left, with smug-filled face,
commission banked, clocks all wound up
held proudly high, in search of bigger fish to fry.

And what of Harry, 48? and many others in same state?
Who knows, who cares, The Murdocman had seen to them
and they were never in His plan.

Holy Crap!
Reads like it's real.
But it must be.
Made sense to me as I followed and pictured in my mind's eye.
Maybe I'm a sheep? or maybe a clock?
I dunno, but I do know I'm a survivor.
Thanks Loku, I feel so special now. :D

That's great :D Glad to know you feel that way, Dave

The inspiration:

“Cheese is the soul of the soil. It is the purest and most romantic link between humans and the earth.” Pierre Androuet.

The challenge:

GK Chesterton: “The poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.”

Voila: www.tastingtoeternity.com.

This book is a poetic view of 30 of the best loved French cheeses with an additional two odes to cheese. Recipes, wine pairing, three short stories and an educational section complete the book.

A unique and amusing Christmas present for all food lovers

Enjoy
