Behind the scenes at My Opera

What's this? Press releases?!

, , ,

Hi, Vetle the Middle Manager here... I like to meddle once in a while, this time to say something about the recent press releases.

Press Releases

New as of this year, is that we're actually issuing press releases when something cool happens with the Opera Community. We're so proud of it, that we're dragging it out of the basement and displaying it proudly for everyone to see. This will put more pressure on us to deliver an even better community site, but I'm confident we're up to the task, and you can expect only good things in the months/years to come.

T-Mobile

But ... Because we're so fracking good, people are starting to take notice. Actually, multi-national telco operators are starting to take notice. We're proud to welcome T-Mobile to the Opera Community. From March 15 - 21 you can meet them at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany, demoing photo blogging with Opera Mini and the Opera Community.

What does this mean? Of course, the Opera Community developers will continue to work hard to bring you the best community site in the world, and we're still focused on you, our users. In addition, we'll also have a multi-national corporation breathing down our necks. This'll be an interesting year, indeed.

New guys

Btw, we have some new guys on our team, stay tuned for more information about them later. We're also getting a new guy from Italy in May, so things are looking up.

Anyway, I'll get back to managing ...

Is this new Italian going to be official Opera chef. I do so hear that Italians make some lovely food.

Also, I'm on Virgin Mobile - they run their stuff through T-Mobile, I think. :D

Hang on

My Dad is wokring on an SMS tracing system and they are having problems as a result of using T-Mobile. It looks like they will need to use Cingular or switch to the CDMA version of the modem and go with Sprint.... then again at least it isn't Telus :irked:.

That's strange because in Canada they use Bell's network and due to CRTC regulations Bell can't have GSM (since Rogers and Fido have the only two slots). That would mean that in Canada they use CDMA and the states they use GSM....

So the UK version does use T-Mobile but only in the UK.

Yeah, as far as I know it's the European T-Mobile that were working with, and T-Mobile US (and Australia for all I know) is a separate entity.

They are the same. However, given the size the U.S. T-mobile must be managed separately and likely with a North American model (which is most typically poor with customer service), while European versions (the mother version) is probably run differently (though I can't say for sure).

As for the whole Virgin Mobile thing, for whatever reason they decided to go CDMA in North America (leading to them using Sprint and Bell, instead of T-Mobile and Rogers (or Fido))
