New themes, shoutbox and bug fixes

blog themes

Hi. Today we updated My Opera with some new stuff. cool

New blog themes

There's a bunch of new blog themes to choose from, and we have also made new enhanced versions of the old themes.

Everyone who has an old theme will (soon) be automatically upgraded to a newer version, except for those of you who have customized your own design - you can choose for yourself if you wish to upgrade or not, but please note that some things have changed and your custom CSS might not work 100% with the new themes. (it's not possible to switch back once you have upgraded)

The CSS for the new themes has been rewritten and improved. It's now more standardized and modularized. The pages are also a bit wider than before.

The about page

The about page for the new blog themes is a bit different. It now follows the standard two column layout, just like the other pages.

Shoutbox

There's a new shoutbox feature available for the blogs. It's turned off by default. You can enable it in "sidebars and menus", from "My account". You will automatically be notified each time someone writes a message in your shoutbox.

The shoutbox can also be seen in the sidebar at the peoples section.

Profile

There are two new fields available on the profiles: Skype and Wii friend codes.

Games

The games section has been removed from the main My Opera navigation, but the group is still available here.

Forums

We made a small text change in the forums. Post "subject" is now called post "title".

Bug fixes

We have made tons of bug fixes this time. The most awaited is probably the groups access rights fix. Others worth mentioning are: "view photos" and "view blog" buttons are now back, send message recipients are now visible, active groups page has been fixed. etc, etc..

New guys!When it rains...

it's so bad that view in firefox eek

Fredrik Anderssonfred Thursday, May 3, 2007 11:09:43 AM

icyleaf, what do you mean?

Dan Alexandrudantesoft Thursday, May 3, 2007 11:28:24 AM

Post "subject" is now called post "title"

How about something equally radical: show the Title text-field after the Content, like it's natural. Should avoid those crazy titles, plus it's easier to create that perfect post title. Ditto for "new blog entry".

thanks for the new stuff. smile wink

Holy Cow!!! Stunning updates. Thanks so much.

el_esponjoso Thursday, May 3, 2007 4:44:08 PM

Something is broken
Later I changed to one of the new styles, the numbers of any list in a post are cut, only it is possible to see correctly from 1 to 10, from 11 to up are cut their tens. http://my.opera.com/el_esponjoso/blog/2007/02/13/las-preguntas-mas-frecuentes-sobre-opera

Besides it is very annoying that I can´t use a custom stylesheet because the system come back to put one time and again one stylesheet that modified initially but I can´t erase o modify it of any manner

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Steve DarkenDarken Thursday, May 3, 2007 5:40:23 PM

Cool yes

el_esponjoso Thursday, May 3, 2007 6:00:06 PM

The system insists to come back to use a stylesheet that IS NOT DEFINED in my custom style sheet besides the path to stylesheet changed from http://my.opera.com/el_esponjoso/files/user.css to http://my.opera.com/el_esponjoso/user.css

I don´t understand what is happening but I think that this change to the form of handling custom stylesheets, sincerely SUCKS!
down down

Haavardhaavard Thursday, May 3, 2007 6:09:59 PM

Let's try to stay constructive shall we, el_esponjoso.

Fredrik Anderssonfred Thursday, May 3, 2007 6:15:36 PM

el_esponjoso, nothing has been changed in the way custom stylesheets are handled, but we will of course investigate to see if there is any problem.

KryptoKnightAleksOD Thursday, May 3, 2007 6:31:18 PM

Great job with the designes and all! Thank you!

Rainjerain Thursday, May 3, 2007 11:06:42 PM

等了太久。

el_esponjoso Friday, May 4, 2007 12:02:10 AM

I apologize for being a little rude with my previous posts but I´m frustrated.

I define a specific stylesheet in custom stylesheet page but the system insists on keeping and continue using a different initial stylesheet that I already modified, even I delete the file http://my.opera.com/el_esponjoso/user.css and I try one time and again with the new stylesheet specified in custom stylesheet page and the system come back the previous stylesheet that I delete.
I have as option :
Use my custom style sheet together with the current theme
or
Only use my custom style sheet *
and it keeps this bug.

I don´t understand this, before I defined a specific stylesheet in custom stylesheet and the system applied immediately the stylesheet and If I specified other stylesheet then the system applied the new stylesheet.

Only as example, I define this stylesheet:

even I do it in this file: http://my.opera.com/el_esponjoso/files/user.css
but the system use this stylesheet: http://my.opera.com/el_esponjoso/user.css

What has happened with the system?

No download is needed. It's all implemented here at My Opera. To add a new theme to your blog go to "My Account", and select your new theme from "Design".

Krisztakriszta Friday, May 4, 2007 12:45:16 PM

Nice work ! smile

I'm wondering when will visitors(non myopera members) be able to add their own URL (website) in separate field when submitting a comment ?
It would be very useful ! smile

patryk_m Friday, May 4, 2007 1:25:59 PM

Ricardo FerreiraRichardCooper Friday, May 4, 2007 3:30:09 PM

There is a way of changing the order post,s in the shoutbox?

place the new answers above the chat box!

龙井茶clovers Friday, May 4, 2007 4:33:52 PM

Thanks for the good job!

Ho Dien Khoakhoadzien Friday, May 4, 2007 5:38:50 PM

Messages're sent slowly, new messages're placed on top of the shout box, it's make us difficult to see the contents. The shout box doesn't works sometimes. Anyway, that's a good idea and i like it yes

C.Felipecafesote Friday, May 4, 2007 6:12:55 PM

"It's not possible to switch back once you have upgraded"

Why?!

cry

I really like the new themes, CONGRATULATIONS! BUT... and the "Save" Button? When i click to just preview the new themes... ploft! Now I can't downgrade to main and old layout. Now i need to rewrite all my CSS.

knockout

The preview needs to come back!
And the option to choose new or old styles too.

up

You can still preview the themes. Click on the picture, not the box surrounding it.

AyushAyushJ Friday, May 4, 2007 7:27:27 PM

Many thanks fred for the new themes !! smile smile

Alexandertetratracker Friday, May 4, 2007 9:42:07 PM

I'd like to have an automatic phot player, like in windows live spaces insted click lots of times in "next" in order to see all the photographs in one album.

rei2613 Saturday, May 5, 2007 3:16:20 PM

C.Felipecafesote Saturday, May 5, 2007 6:12:41 PM

The image in the info and the about page need to have the same size.

idea

Nulldanei Sunday, May 6, 2007 11:23:57 AM

1. Would you please make the purple theme round corner as it was before?
2. The link of tag picture should be encoded as utf-8, or the picture will never be shown when the link contain non-english words in IE.

Quạ Conquaconyenyen Sunday, May 6, 2007 3:15:56 PM

Good job, buddy! yes

icyleaf Monday, May 7, 2007 2:33:20 AM

@fred:now is ok!
The last Siderbar was display below the main of blog...

Clarenceallhewrote Friday, May 11, 2007 11:00:02 PM

is it possible for shoutbox to allow anonymous chat?

Stomyr Friday, May 11, 2007 11:22:44 PM

It would probably filled with spam. So I guess (hope) that they will never allow it.

Clarenceallhewrote Friday, May 11, 2007 11:26:12 PM

sigh.. ok thanks smile

Stomyr Friday, May 11, 2007 11:26:56 PM

You are welcome. smile

Joedecode Saturday, May 12, 2007 12:48:23 AM

Good job! themes are more beautiful now, and i'm interested in the new feature shoutbox, but i don't know how to manage the messages posted on shoutbox, i mean, we shout delete some junk messages sometimes.

Stomyr Saturday, May 12, 2007 8:49:18 AM

I've already "said" that. smile
And it would be also good, if we could make it friends only.

falacy Friday, October 5, 2007 5:14:41 AM

Why do I not have the option on the new Design page to use a custom CSS? I scoured the Design page and the option is not there on my account, in Opera or Firepuke.

Fredrik Anderssonfred Friday, October 5, 2007 7:57:57 AM

try going directly to my.opera.com/falacy/account/usercss.dml

falacy Saturday, October 6, 2007 2:43:30 AM

Ah, well there you go! Thanks Fred.

Hey, I just wanted to clarify that for ME the pirate theme is pretty lame, but for people who like pirates it's pretty cool.

Thanks a lot for all of your hard work, eh. You really do have a keen eye there Fred. I do miss the blue alien theme, as without modifiction it was great! Blue #2 is a nice starting layout and colour scheme - with a custom banner, it'll be... sexy!
