New My Opera October 2007 Release Changelog

october changelog

Good news, everyone! We've been working hard fixing bugs and generally improving the My Opera community over the last couple of weeks.

Changelog

  • You're now (again) able to edit and/or delete comments in blog posts either made by you or if you're a group moderator.
  • Removing group members no longer results in an error message stating you're not authorized to do so.
  • We've fixed a broken link in the forums about job annoucements.
  • The broken link for watching the community blog has now been fixed.
  • A new theme is available! Head over to your account, click on design, then scroll down to "Halloween".
  • The top banner on My Opera has been changed to a halloween-themed one.
  • "Choose Opera" blog posts are now also visible from the Opera section.
  • The Opera section has been updated. We've added a new "Explore" menu section and moved the customize section to the sidebanner for better consistency.
  • We've added an additional confirmation step when you're invited or want to join a group. This is a security fix to prevent people being automatically added to pesky spam groups.
  • Fixed a bug in the photo albums which only affected users with non-ASCII characters in their username.
  • It's now possible to remove all members of a group (including the creator).
  • There will be NO MORE monkeys in error messages.
  • We've fixed various CSS errors.
  • Re-enabled the link for editing user CSS.
  • Opera Link Web UI has been launched - This is a feature for viewing your bookmarks on the Web.

I still can't use Windows Live Writer :frown:

I used to be able to, before the last update. It's very irritating!!!

"Removing group members". Yey!
"Monkeys". You should put up a counter for how many monkeys are disappearing each day because of this reckless environmental change.
"Opera Link Web UI". YEY! :left: :right: Do we have to wait for the Opera Desktop beta?

The monkeys were the cool thing about error messages in My Opera. Well. I'm going to miss them... Or not. Because now I'll put more of them in my blog! Because they're some of my blog's mascots.

coxy 25. October 2007, 10:38

Nice Halloween headers - who does the artwork for them?

d.i.z. 25. October 2007, 10:43

Opera Mini has some problems fitting my.opera pages in screen.

AyushJ 25. October 2007, 10:50

great job. thanks!

dantesoft 25. October 2007, 11:10

Small nitpicks for the "opera link" UI.

1. Bookmarklets are displayed wrong:
javascript:location.href='http://del.icio.us/post?v=3&url='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)
becomes
http://javascript//del.icio.us/post?v=3&url='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)

2. The nicknames are not shown. Can we overwrite them?

fred 25. October 2007, 11:34

Dantesoft,
We are aware of the javascript issue.
Nicknames used to be a part of the web ui but we have removed it for now because we thought it was unnecessary. It's not that often you need to edit your nicknames on another computer, in the web ui.

tCfkaDA 25. October 2007, 11:42

Line-breaks in Comments are... well... kinda broken.
1 Line-break results in 2 line-breaks
2 line-breaks result in 3 line-breaks

Example:
Line 1 (line-break)
Line 2 (line-break, line-break)

Line 3

dantesoft 25. October 2007, 11:45

@fred:
I see. I agree that simpler is better, I was just worried that I might delete nicknames while editing in the web UI.
In a related issue, maybe the favicons should be loaded from the websites directly, and not stored. I think that visiting an old bookmark on the desktop will trigger a sync, just to update the favicon on the servers...

@tCfkaDA:
Yeah:) It's painfully obvious for me, too.

el_esponjoso 25. October 2007, 13:43

The lists also are broken and disappeared in my blog.

There should be two paragraphs but only there is one.

Furie 25. October 2007, 14:12

We were unfairly dismissed. We're suing. monkey

Any idea when the coding in comments will start working again?

rseiler 25. October 2007, 15:43

@tCfkaDA: Thanks for pointing out the line-break issue, as I was just about to do that myself. It's a huge waste of vertical space.

Also, here's another vote for including the *username* in the RSS feed for comments. Without that, it's impossible to follow a conversation via the feed since you never know who's speaking. I've mentioned this before.

dantesoft 25. October 2007, 16:56

Now that the MyO account has just become more precious, can we get HTTPS MyOpera and link.opera.com login forms?

fred 25. October 2007, 17:16

we were discussing https yesterday but I can't say more than that at this moment

fred 25. October 2007, 17:21

coxy, some Halloween graphics were made by Michael, some by Brian and some by the mysterious Randy Fitzsimmons

d.i.z. 25. October 2007, 17:49

Watches always take me to the last comment. Always have to go up and try to look up the ones that are new. I hate that bug.

garydenness 25. October 2007, 22:51

My YouTube videos now refuse to align, all going to the left :frown:

fred 26. October 2007, 08:45

garydenness, it's because we added display:block to the embed tag. I'll fix it for the next My Opera update, but for now you can fix it yourself by adding this css:
.aligncenter embed { margin:0 auto; }

garydenness 26. October 2007, 11:42

Thanks!

FataL 26. October 2007, 17:04

I like monkeys much more than those faces...
Bring monkeys back! monkey

Mickeyjoe_irl 26. October 2007, 20:24

It looks like the LIST tag is now broken.
It will only display the last item of the list.
PS It's not My Opera without the server monkeys.

sagar 27. October 2007, 06:49

my monkeys are gone. :frown:

Investor 27. October 2007, 18:22

Member stat (in banner) gone ?

LorenzoCelsi 28. October 2007, 19:14

There is something wrong in comments. When you use "return" to break a line you get TWO "br" each return instead of one. There are HUGE empty spaces in comments.

rseiler 5. November 2007, 15:38

And when is that getting fixed? No comment here is not cool.

nicomen 13. November 2007, 21:23

We'll have a new release very soon, hopefully fixed then ;D

bjorberg 14. November 2007, 11:13

I am having trouble using mms-blogpost. When I send an mms-message (or email) to my blog the mail is returned with the message "The following addresses had permanent fatal errors". Is this problem due to some of the last changes? When will this be fixed?

EspenAO 14. November 2007, 11:29

If you are having trouble with your MMS uploads, please adjust your "Attempt to remove operator signature" setting for this album. It's possible that this may be interfering with your image uploads.

bjorberg 14. November 2007, 12:03

I have tried that. Doesn't solve the problem. This must be a different problem. We are four of us experiencing the same problem.

theoddbod 14. November 2007, 12:22

Which email provider? You need one that allows a plus sign in the email address and not all of them do.

bjorberg 14. November 2007, 12:52

Netcom provides the mms-service. It worked fine until about three weeks ago, which was around the time when the changes mentioned in this changelog made. I've also tried sending regular email to the address, but this gives me the following error message:
did not reach the following recipient(s): .... (From Thunderbird)
Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference at /usr/local/lib/site_perl/XWA/Common.pm line 722.554 5.3.0 unknown mailer error 9 (From Gmail)
Any ideas to what else this can be?

Furie 14. November 2007, 13:16

Yeah, Gmail has recently started having problems sending to Opera. If you do figure it out let us all know, and we'll do the same if we figure it out.
