My Opera News

Behind the scenes at My Opera

Good news, Everyone!

, , , ,

the opera bunch

We're ready to announce one of the biggest changes to our community since its launch in 2001. We are really committed to our work, and there's nothing greater to see new members joining or existing ones logging in!

But... There's a catch to it all. As most of you know, developing Web sites today is time-consuming, and in order to maintain My Opera we're forced to think of all different kinds of contexts when we create something new (or fix something old). So, Nicolas, Edoardo, Esteban, and I (together with front-end guys Fred and the new kid in town, Tristan) have decided that it only makes sense to continue development exclusively for Microsoft IE6 (according to our stats, the majority of our users are IE-followers).

Yeah, yeah, we know... We are the Opera community, but, boo-hoo-on-you!

There's simply too much work to support all those browsers along with their interpretation of "standards".

We can safely announce that starting today, a new era will arise.

If you think this is good, then help us digg it!

Oh, That's great! I think I'll dump OS X and install Vista right away. I have got a @vista.aero e-mail address with username roobie, anyway!

Great news! I've been looking to upgrade to Windows 98 for a while now, you guys have just made it an easy decision for me.

Now, when are you going to start work on supporting HTML 3.0? I hear there's some cool new stuff for scrolling marquees in there...

Henrik Labadi 1. April 2008, 07:38

Dane 1. April 2008, 09:32

Excellent news!

Now you can put <marquee> tags everywhere!

Also, you should really consider making the whole layout with tables... DIVs are soooo web 2.0!

And! You could use advanced CSS selectors like :first that only those standards-compliant browsers understand and IE completely ignores and put code inside them that will completely break the layout in other browsers, but will have no effect on IE!

Also Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl are only for those Open-source geeks, real world developers use ASP.NET with IIS and Microsoft SQL on Windows Server!

Oh and check if the user agent of the browser is Opera and force the fools that use it to upgrade to Internet Explorer!
