My Opera Development

Behind the scenes at My Opera

Latest batch of changes...

During the last week we worked like crazy to restore the expected performances of My Opera. But I'll talk later about the last week... smile Ten minutes ago we just sent out lots of changes that:

  • Changed doctype to HTML 4.01 Transitional, to avoid some validation issues
  • Fixed the album pictures sorting (the javascript version)
  • Showed two featured posts on the home page
  • Fixed "add new alternative" for polls
  • Fixed forum announcement previews
  • Updated the forums design to a more classical look
  • Fixed selection of the default my opera look for blogs for all users

The forums were redesigned based on user feedback (thanks) and these are a few of the changes:

  • A more classical forum look
  • Added a bit more color to the page so it's not just all white
  • Made it easier to see the date and separated it from the post content
  • Optimized code and graphics for faster loading times
  • Made posts by Opera Software more visible
  • Moved quoter's name inside the quote
  • Made signatures a bit smaller
  • Highlighted friends posts in green
  • And more..

We are also working on solving the proxy error problems for users with many files in their files section. EDIT: It's almost fixed.

I like it but it is big. Can you make it little smaller?

Can anybody see dates in sidebar calender in this blog?

Made posts by Opera Software more visible

Would be nice to highlight opera staff posts by default. A light red/pink color would be nice.

Moved quoter's name inside the quote

What did this accomplish? Was there a request for this? Is there some reasoning behind it?

Highlighted friends posts in green

This highlighting is a lot more subtle thatn it was previously. Was this intentional? I'd like to easily eye my friends' posts.

@staff: Can anyone explain what was wrong with the previous forums that prompted the redesign?

Users with problems in uploading/seeing their files now should be happy again. Thanks to Edoardo for a quick fix.

i'm looking forward to see the page navigation in the forum threads to be fixed someday. i still see some phantom pages to navigate to and realise that they are completely empty.

Andrew NguyenSouthernCross Monday, November 24, 2008 9:20:35 PM

yes

@Tamil; I can see the dates, but it's kind of too faint.

DonnyQuinnuendo Monday, November 24, 2008 9:48:39 PM

I like the changes in the forums. The old new (lol) was interesting, though probably nto too practical.

And I also agree with Tamil, the dates are way too dark in the calendar.

btw when I am scrolling this page Opera tends to jitter very hard when the spotlight video is in view. Then when I scroll lower it's all fine.

When I upload a photo (in album), The photo shows very deformed

Look this, Before and After
http://files.myopera.com/jreynav/diversos/album.jpg

I remove it, and then upload the image (once more), so you can see the changes.

Why can no longer be uploading photos in format 640 * 480?

El fantasma de Operajreynav Tuesday, December 2, 2008 2:03:15 PM

Oh,

1) Put a box for Mark All messages (select all) in INBOX. Please worried

2) How can I put a video in the sidebar right? confused Like this

Changed doctype to HTML 4.01 Transitional, to avoid some validation issues

This causes the title bar in the default theme of myopera to display some sawteeth in Opera 10. However, version 9.x is not infected.
To change "Transitional" back to "Strict" solve the problem.
