Sibasagar - The Temple City
21 images
Sibasagar may be small but it is an old town, with a heritage of over 600 years. More people know about this place due to the oil rigs there but the local Ahom guys are proud of their heritage. And why not? The place has some of the most beautiful architectures, intriguing buildings and the three large man-made ponds can indeed make everyone proud. The burial grounds of the Ahom kings, the famous amphitheater, etc., are there to be seen. They may not be as old or grand as the Sphinx or the Roman Amphitheater, but the place (about 400km from my city Guwahati) does have them all. I have been to this place recently and am now trying my best to promote it.

Clouds of Cherapunjee

Shillong, capital of Meghalaya, is about 120 km from Guwahati, where I stay. This hill State attracts people from far and wide due to its wonderful weather. Some may also be aware that a region in Meghalaya, known as Sohra, receives high rainfall and that a particular place there, named Cherapunjee, is known for the record of receiving the highest rainfall in the world.
If Shillong is beautiful – the colonial Britishers used to call it the ‘Scotland of the East’ – Cherapunjee is heavenly. Indian Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore aptly named this State Meghalaya (Megh - cloud, alaya -abode). I have been to this wonderful place in Oct, 2008 and enjoyed the nature's bounty in all its splendour for three days. The downside of this trip was that not many photographs were possible due to the inclement weather. Here are some:
Wild grass of Kaziranga

The Kaziranga National park in India is one of the most significant wildlife parks in the world; because it is home to the unique one-horned rhinos. If you have not seen enough rhinos, then this the place to be. The park is located between the Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts of the State of Assam. Numerous tourists visit this park, which is usually open from end-October to March-end depending on Monsoon conditions.
