Нос Калиакра - най- красивото и най-странното място по северното ни черноморско крайбрежие, се намира на 12 км източно от Каварна и на 60 км североизточно от Варна. Тясното скалисто полуостровче се вдава на 2 км навътре в морето, като завършва с отвесни 70- метрови скали. Поради своята красота, този край е получил името Калиакра, което значи "красив нос".

One of the most beautiful and strangest places along the Bulgarian North Seaside is definitely Cape Kaliakra. It is situated 12 km east from Kavarna and 60 km northeast from the Bulgarian sea capital Varna. A narrow rocky peninsula cuts 2 km through the sea and impresses with its 70 km long rocks, embracing it alongside. For its natural beauty this place was called Kaliakra- “Beautiful Cape”.

Thracian treasure

The ancient inhabitants to what is now Bulgaria, the Thracians were skilful craftsmen as their predecessors. They made beautifully ornated golden and silver objects such as plates, rhytons, masks, chaplets and others. During varius barbarian or Roman attacks they used to bury them in the ground. Spartacus, the gladiator slave who led a rebel war against the Romans, was a Thracian. And they were renowned throughout the ancient world as expert metalworkers; in The Iliad, Homer describes the Thracian King's golden armor as "a wonder to behold, such as it is in no wise fit for mortal men to bear, but for the deathless gods."Today more than 80 Thracian treasures have been excavated in Bulgaria. They prove that the Thracians were "not a society of barbarians," says Alexander Fol, a Bulgarian expert on Thracian history. "They had a system of values and were consciously abiding by it. This was an aristocratic society with a great hierarchy."
