Direct wines White Wine - The Basics And Types

, ,

Do you like white wine? A lot of people do, because it's refreshing to drink. It's versatile, too, and goes with a lot of different kinds of foods. Drinking a glass of white wine can relax you, and you can have it with family and friends, on "just for two" occasions, or during occasions that are more formal, like weddings or dinner parties. White wine is simply popular everywhere. There are seven different major categories of white wine. If you are a white wine connoisseur (or you want to be), it'll help you to know the difference between these different types of wine. These may be of different brand names, but knowing which type you'll want to choose for a particular occasion will help you choose the exact white wine you want.

The first type of white wine is Chardonnay, which is very popular; this first gained immense popularity in the 1990s and continues to be a favorite today. This wine comes from France, and has a velvety or wider bodied taste than do dry wines or red wines. This type of white wine has citrus base case, including lemon or grapefruit.

Secondly, Sauvignon Blanc is also of French origins and a versatile wine perfect for seafood or salads. Taste characteristics include an herbal aftertaste with dominating sour apples, gooseberries, pears, and tropical fruits.

Semillon wine is a great wine to have with a fish-based dinner. It has a distinctive fig-based taste; Sauvignon and Semillon also taste great when mixed together.

Next, the Muscat wine is a non-food wine, meaning it is best all by itself and stands on its own. This is a typically fruity and sweet wine variety with a musk aroma. For many, this wine is too sweet, but others enjoy its sweetness, truly making it a matter of taste and preference.

Pinot Grigio comes from Italy, and can be paired with lots of different types of food. It's a clean, crisp, fresh, versatile wine, with an intense aroma and fruity taste.

Riesling is a white wine that goes great with lighter meats like pork or chicken, or with fish. Its origins are in Germany, and it has a sweet, fresh, light taste. This is a wine that gets better with age.

Lastly, Gewurztraminer is a light wine ideal for sipping. It goes well with Asian foods. This one, too, comes from Germany and bases its flavors on fruity tastes like rose petals or peaches. Although not as refreshing as some types of white wine, it's truly unique.

White wine is a popular drink because it's very light and has a semi-sweet to sweet taste. Normally, when people begin drinking wines, they start with white wines and then opt for drier versions later. Others prefer white wines because they are versatile, and because they go so well with so many different types of food and occasions. Most white wines are served chilled and not at room temperature as some dry red wine varieties are. The coldness of white wine is attractive to many people's taste buds, as compared to warmer versions of dry wines. Typically refreshing, white wines are great chilled because they are so refreshing.
