Direct wines Giving Wine As Gifts

, ,

Wine makes a great gift for various occasions, including weddings, Valentine's Day, and Christmas. Wine is also ideal for a retirement gift, a birthday gift, or a gift for no reason. There are companies that offer complete wine baskets for sale or you can make one yourself if you're so inclined. Wine makes a great gift because the bottles look beautiful, allowing you to just add a bow, wrap it, or include it in a lovely gift basket.

While there are many people that are very familiar with the different kinds of wine that have no problem choosing wine for gifts, but others might be new to wine and need some help picking out wine to give as gifts.

It's probably best to go with a sweet or semi-sweet wine unless you are familiar with what the receiver enjoys drinking. If he or she drinks wine only occasionally, a sweet or semi-sweet wine is also the best bet. You could always purchase one sweet and one semi-sweet bottle of wine, depending on how many bottles you want to give.

Another thing to remember is that white wine is lighter than other wines and goes well with many meals and is more versatile than dry wines. However, if you know your recipient enjoys dryer wines, by all means, buy it.

Typical wine bottles come in the 750 ml bottles, but you can purchase the magnum, which is equal to two bottles of wine of the 750 ml, if you are sure of the variety you plan to purchase your recipient. Many people that receive bottles of wine save them for another occasion and do not consume them right away. After all, most wines taste better with age, so this is no problem.

If you are going to give wine gift baskets, include non-wine items that complement the wine. Even though the snacks won't be eaten with the wine, it's always a nice gesture to include matching food items with the wine.

One really nice thing about giving wine for a gift is you can be extravagant or frugal because wine is sold at various price points. If you are giving a wine gift to casual wine drinkers you won't have to buy the most expensive wine. You could blow your budget without the recipient knowing the value of the wine. However, if you're giving a wine gift to a true connoisseur of wine, purchasing a rare wine will undoubtedly make them appreciate the gesture.
