Health For Sale...

However, one predominant aspect of the last month is that people have been getting sick in our family. It seemed like there was always someone who had a cold, sore throat, sore stomach, head aches, sore feet, diarrhea and the list goes on and on. Not a good month on the health front. We contributed a fair bit to the very healthy Chinese pharmaceutical industry with all the medicines we have been strongly encouraged into buying.
Some of these medicines were "Western" while others were "Chinese" or "Traditional" medicines. While I would generally tend to trust traditional medicines due to the fact that they are primarily herb based and more natural, some of the medicines we encountered were both colourful and interesting.
One such pill was the Angong Niuhuang Wan pill, which came in a beautifully silk embroidered box. Apparently, it supports the health of the immune system, the nervous system, and the circulatory system. The formula for Angong Niuhuang Wan originated during the Qing Dynasty and is widely known here in China and respected. The pill cost 12 RMB but I saw an American website that was selling the same pill for U$60 each! Talk about getting ripped off…
The ingredients are rather interesting: Cattle Gallstone, Chinese Goldthread Rhizome, Baikal Skullcap Root, Gardenia Fruit, Turmeric Root and Pearls. My wife took one a couple of days ago on the advice that it would “balance her body”…well we shall see.
Let us hope that the next month is a little healthier for us.
