EarthLink and SK Telecom will combine access to the bustling market in the United States for mobile services with South Korea’s recognized talent for innovative mobile content and applications to launch a company and service called Helio.
The initial services will include youth-oriented products such as mobile music downloading, gaming, and blogging.
Helio is the first product of a joint venture announced in January between EarthLink, an Internet service provider based in Atlanta, and SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile communications carrier. Each company has invested $220 million in the joint venture, SK-EarthLink, which was renamed Helio on Wednesday.
