Fear of Driving Tips For Teenagers: Overcoming the Fear

Most people learn to drive in their teenage years. Most teenager are tall and old enough to drive  the steering wheel and maneuver the brake, gas and clutch. But acquiring a driver's license require not only the physical attributes of the driver, but also the mental capacity. That when fear of driving becomes a problem . While other's are having an easy time learning how to drive, you are watching at the back seat and scared of the thought of you driving. Being a teenager, it's okay to feel upset not able to do what other teenagers can. But you should not nurse that feeling because it will only make you fear driving even more. As you may have known, the only way to defeat fear is to face it and conquer it. Counter your fear of driving with this short guide and get that license you always wanted. 1. Stop denying that you have the fear in you. By acknowledging your fear of driving you are accepting it fact that its part of you. You should learn to embrace the fact that you are shakky behind those wheels. Accept that you need to face it and solve the problem. When you learn to recognize your fear of driving, learning to stop it will be easier and you will no longer feel ashame to seek for help.
 
2. Talk about it with your best buddy. Since you’re a teenager, it is better you talk to your parents first about your fear. A good advice from someone who knows better in driving will have a good impact on getting over your fear of driving. Discuss how to address the problem or better yet, ask if they can accompany you in the first few weeks of learning how to drive even if you decide to seek help from a professional driving instructor. It always make a difference when you have the support needed in facing your fears.
 
3. Have a conversation about it with your closest friend/s. When you have talked about it with your parents, it will be easier for you to share your fear of driving with your friends. Share the solutions you and your parents have come up with and soon enough you’ll realize you felt embarrassed for nothing. Good friends will even encourage you more and support you all the way. They might ridicule you sometimes but know that they’re only trying to lighten up your mood and not break your spirit.
 
4. Get acquainted with the basics. Get to the front seat right beside your dad driving and observe the basics in driving. Watch closely how the mechanism works and if possible throw a lot of questions. Try to figure out how the steering wheel works, or how is the clutch and the gas related, or what is the importance of shifting gears, or when is it the right time to shift gears.. It is important to learn things step by step so that your fear of driving will get lesser each time you learn something new.
 
5. Memorize the rules in driving. After learning the basics of driving you should also learn the rules of driving. This way, you'll no longer have that fear of driving since you perfectly know what you are doing. Learn to read road signs, when to turn, and all other things. Knowing them will lessen your anxiety and ultimately help you with how to get over the fear of driving.
