Why the blog?

Why, indeed? I've tried keeping a blog before and never kept it up and don't really expect this to be any different. But I have a year off work, starting next July, and anticipate doing some neat travelling, climbing, photography... Normally, when travelling, I keep a journal. So why not try to keep an online version, especially if I can post pictures of fun places along the way?
It's New Year's Eve so I could make some resolution about keeping this blog up. But I won't. However, regarding resolutions: I will try to go to the gym and climbing wall a little more often. Spend a little less time in front of the computer. Nothing measurable there so I should be safe.
I'll try to add a picture to each post, timely or otherwise...
Definitely not timely, this one. An old slide (Kodachrome), taken in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in 1973 when I was travelling overland from the UK to Nepal. Nothing goes to waste - old tyres are turned into buckets, sandals, ...
