Jeb & Gwennie

These two are Cairns Terriers. Jeb, the dark male is a Brindle and Gwennie is a Westie. The breed originated in Scotland. They were used for hunting fox and getting rid of vermin (rats mice moles etc..). The term "Cairn" means a pile of rocks in Scotland. That's where you usually find vermin nesting. The Westies were a hybrid where they culled all but the white pups to create the West Highland Scottish Terrier. They were bred in the very early 1900's so the hunters could tell them apart from the fox while hunting and not kill their own dogs. Disgusting huh?? but true. I love this breed. They are so energetic, loyal and make terrific watch dogs.
