Opera Unite is a collaborative technology that uses a compact server inside the Opera desktop browser to share data and services. You can write applications — in the form of Opera Unite Services — that use this server to serve content to other Web users. :hat:

You know the complexity of web technology is getting out of hand when every website needs some special treatment. Imagine driving a car if you had to change the engine slightly or replace wheels every time you turned a corner and entered a new street? Browser development is a lot like that these days.

The Web Standards Project is a grassroots coalition fighting for standards which ensure simple, affordable access to web technologies for all.
The Web Standards Project has formed task forces to address specific issues and technologies related to development and standards. Task Forces are led by WaSP members and involve industry representatives and subject matter experts.


What You Can Do
You can help shore up support for standards in our medium by joining the WaSP Street Team, reporting browser bugs and participating in worthwhile campaigns.

Opera Browser 15 Year Anniversary

Fifteen years ago, in April 1994, two computer scientists sat at their desks in a research lab in what is today Telenor, Norway's telecommunications incumbent, itching to begin a new project. Jon von Tetzchner, now CEO of Opera Software, and Geir Ivarsøy were going to build their own Web browser. They began coding the original desktop Web browser in April 1994.

Those first keystrokes would become Opera, the browser that has set - and continues to set - the standard for browser innovation. Today, about 40 million people use Opera on their Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

We will be celebrating at the Opera offices around the world today. Get it on the spirit by joining us at 1pm GMT/UTC today for live Q&A with Jon!
