Warning: Random Thoughts Are Everywhere

These are Just a few of my Favorite Things!

, ,

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of technology? Would it be a computer? iPod? Cell phone? Electric can opener? Other than the can opener (and that's not even a sure bet), the rest are undoubtedly what most everyone thinks of when asked that question. As with anything though, people tend to want to add to or improve upon older versions, hoping to make them better and easier to use. One of my favorite innovations around is internet or web access.

Most of the tech I own can connect to the internet. I love having web access available to me. Who doesn't like being able to do a quick search of the name of that actor in "In Plain Sight" that you can't ever seem to remember, or how to get to Target in a city you've never been to before? How about checking out the release of that new video game that you wanted? Or better yet, you just got in bed, it's thundering outside and the sky is bright with lightening. Don't you want to check the weather and see how much rain you're supposed to get, the size of the hail, if any, that might dent your car, and avoid frying you're computer at the same time? With web access on all your "toys" you can do just that.

OK, so you have web access on your toys. So, what browser will you use? You could use Internet Explorer since IE is pretty much the web standard browser. You could use Safari, after all Macs, iPhone, and iPod Touch have that as a standard browser. You could use Firefox with all its little extensions and themes. What about the "underdog" Opera? Opera browser is incredibly versatile in that you can put in on your computer, your mobile, and your Wii or Nintendo DSi. You have a desktop version for your computer, a mini version for your mobile, and a mobile version for your PDA or smartphone, and a Devices version for your DSi.

I use Opera the majority of the time. Why? With this one browser, I can do all I want and more and use it on a number of devices. Opera Link allows me to synchronize the bookmarks, notes, Speed Dial, etc. on my mobile with the ones on my computer and vice versa. I don't spend forever ranting, "Crap! I don't have that bookmarked on my phone!" I can look and see what note I made while I was waiting in the waiting room. I love the tab trash (I have a bad habit of closing the tab I want don't want to close, and doing it several times in a row), the user interface (sleek and easy on the eyes), and the speed as well. The mobile and desktop versions have Opera Turbo for when your network decides to slow down (my work connection is horrible about that). Given all of that, why would I want to use something else?

P.S. I thought it would be fun to enter the Opera Competition. If you like it, would you please favorite it?

Wow. Did they put you on the sales staff? p:

I agree completely, by the way.

dragon_harrower 18. August 2009, 20:02

I don't know how I missed your comment. Weird!

No, they didn't put me on the sales staff. I thought I'd see if I could qualify for Opera's Internship. :D It'd be pretty freaking cool!

 Great minds, Matt.

Nerak 18. August 2009, 21:32

*applause* That was terrific, Casey! Good luck!

dragon_harrower 18. August 2009, 21:33

Thanks! :D I want to go to Norway and work for Opera, dang it!

Nerak 18. August 2009, 21:45

I do, too! I can't leave my family for 6 months, though. So I hope one of my awesome friends like you get to do it instead!

If you do, I want SHIT-TONS of pictures!!!! As many candid shots of Espen & Robert as you can get!

dragon_harrower 18. August 2009, 21:56

As long as I can take Bear with, I'll be totally happy. I can understand you not leaving your family. They wouldn't know what to do without you!

 I'll try to barrage you with a crapload of pics if I go. I really, really want to go too. :D It'd definitely be interesting to write for a living (OK, 6 months). I'm curious to see how well I'd do with something like that.

Nerak 18. August 2009, 23:40

I think you have it backwards. They'd celebrate my leaving...it's me who wouldn't know what to do!

Then again, I do all the baking of tasty treats, so they might want to keep me around.

I think you'd do magnificently well, Casey. Just judging from your entry - you have what it takes and I'm totally pulling for you!

dragon_harrower 19. August 2009, 00:38

 I like my way better.

Heheh. Tasty treats tend to keep a person around.

Thanks, Karen! :D I do enjoy the job I have now, but I think working with Opera would open up more opportunities, as well as allow me to see the world.

Nerak 19. August 2009, 01:03

Oh yeah...having that on a resumé would look mighty pretty!

Not to mention how awesome the experience would be...even if it didn't help you in the future. Just being there & getting paid for six months is like a dream come true! :o:

dragon_harrower 19. August 2009, 02:07

Heck yeah! Just being able to go there would be awesome!

angel292005 19. August 2009, 02:39

Very good

dragon_harrower 19. August 2009, 03:30

darkhitsugaya 19. August 2009, 14:35

Agree with your post... opera has the best mobile browser...

i've added your post as a fave, so please do check mine too and add it: http://my.opera.com/darkhitsugaya/blog/2009/08/19/browsing-in-vain-you-are-not-alone thanks!

dragon_harrower 19. August 2009, 15:26

@gregsmithsays- I have says at work where Opera Turbo is the only way I can get anything to load. :frown: I just set it on "auto" and let it do its stuff. So far that's worked really well. When my connection gets too slow, it turns on and then when the connection speeds up again, Turbo turns off.

I'll definitely read your article and do the same.

@darkhitsugaya I love Opera's mobile browser! It was the first thing I ever installed on my phone when I bought it.

I've read and added yours as well.

qlue 19. August 2009, 20:56

One word: perspective.

My outlook on life is totally Zen. In fact, I'm the MOST Zen person you could ever hope to meet.

I win at Zen.

Gyrobo 20. August 2009, 17:28

Indeed. I hope my post will give people perspective, too.

underdog Opera? damn nice . But you know finally Underdog won. Nice article, vote for you!

dragon_harrower 25. August 2009, 16:09

Thanks! :D

 The underdog can win in this case. Too bad most of the people I know are convinced that IE is the way. :shudder:

DanSarmasan 25. August 2009, 17:55

The funniest thing is the size of the hail . I'm not used to people concerned about hails.
I've given it a fav - gl.

dragon_harrower 25. August 2009, 17:57

When you have a chance of getting hail the size of golf balls, you check. That way you can get away from the windows.

I've faved yours as well. Good luck.

DanSarmasan 25. August 2009, 17:59

Or you can take your baseball bat outside for a "walk"... after all it's one of your national sports .

winterdawn 25. August 2009, 18:00

I just re-favorited your post. I dont know why it has not registered when I did it last time...but I hope you don't take it against me P:

dragon_harrower 25. August 2009, 18:10

I'm terrible at baseball.

Thanks, Winterdawn! I'd never take it against you. After you having said it didn't register the fav though, I do need to check and make sure that mine registered everyone's.

ripp2002 25. August 2009, 18:56

I think this would be great for you. Good luck and best wishes...

dragon_harrower 25. August 2009, 18:58

Thanks, Ripp! :D I'd love to go to Norway and write. :D Heck, I'd just love to travel a little bit.

Tabmartel 27. August 2009, 00:32

Awesome! I just bought a new cell, and the very first thing I did was install Opera Mini. I have to say I was floored! I can see the graphics, and web pages look like web pages. Opera earns two thumbs way up from me...I have come to appreciate and expect nothing less than excellence from Opera!

Best of luck to you Casey!

dragon_harrower 27. August 2009, 02:00

Opera Mini is definitely my most used browser! Skyfire isn't too bad, especially if you need to see the flash on a site. I'm glad that you're enjoying it so far! :D New toys are so much fun!

Thanks, Tab! :D

Tabmartel 27. August 2009, 10:05

You are most welcome

gregsmithsays 27. August 2009, 12:23

Skyfire ? Never heard of it... but I've tried Teashark - OPERA MINI is much better !
