Quotable of the Day

"You have two names. Ryd Yarrow and Dragon-Harrower. One is a plain name that this mountain gave to you. The other you got from the world, the name that gives you color. One name I can talk to, the other is the tale at the bottom of a bottle of wormspoor."

He keeps us all entertained!

Aadil 1. April 2008, 15:46

Well, the global plague is here, it doesn't seem to be changing anything. :left:

Casey² 1. April 2008, 16:04

Too true. Maybe I ought to change my Quotable of the Day.:left: :right:

Melissa Renneberg 4. April 2008, 15:29

The Mighty Thor is back hehe

Melissa Renneberg 4. April 2008, 15:34

cross the Bridge of Asgard, Where the booming heavens roar, You’ll behold in breathless wonder, The God of Thunder, Mighty Thor!

Casey² 4. April 2008, 15:55

 I like that one! Stephen R. Donaldson wrote a book called "This Day All Gods Die." For some reason I just love the title of it. Hmm. Now I'm going to have to buy the Gap series and reread them. :hat: They're a bit of a rough read, but totally worth it.

The Gap into Conflict: The Real Story (1990),
The Gap into Vision: Forbidden Knowledge (1991),
The Gap into Power: A Dark and Hungry God Arises (1992),
The Gap into Madness: Chaos and Disorder (1993),
and The Gap into Ruin: This Day All Gods Die (1994).

Aadil 5. April 2008, 04:51

Well, discworld rocks! :headbang:

Casey² 5. April 2008, 04:59

w00t!

Aadil 5. April 2008, 05:30

And Xanth is also

Casey² 5. April 2008, 05:34

It's been a while since I've read Xanth, but I do enjoy it. Hee, hee. The Color of Her Panties. Who other than Piers Anthony would name a book that? Good memories.

Aadil 5. April 2008, 05:55

I haven't read much for years :frown:
Too much other things to do. That and not many good book shops around here. :left:

Casey² 5. April 2008, 06:02

I haven't been reading as much as I used to for pretty much the same reasons. There is a Barnes and Noble two hours away, so every once in a while I'll get some new books, but not often. awww

Ripp 7. April 2008, 03:15

What a great quote but I have no idea of the people that you guys are refering too :eyes:

Casey² 7. April 2008, 04:48

I change my quotes fairly often, so that might be some of the confusion. As for Piers Anthony and Terry Pratchett (discworld reference), their wonderful (in my opinion) fantasy authors. The one I have as of now is from "Reaper's Gale" by Steven Erikson.

BTW, thanks. I'm glad you like the quote.

Ripp 7. April 2008, 13:50

Homer: Doh! like I know who Steven Erikson is :eyes: I dont read a lot....

Casey² 7. April 2008, 14:15

It's one of my favorite past times and I forget that not everyone knows what I'm talking about. I tend to insert both of my feet down my throat in that regard.

Ripp 7. April 2008, 14:22

:eyes: wow, I will leave that one open for others; just not challenging enough for me

Casey² 7. April 2008, 14:32

Not challenging enough? :yikes: Now that hurts. I'm kind of curious to see what responses I get to that one though.

Ripp 7. April 2008, 14:43

Other than the obvious watergate scandel comments etc... Who knows :eyes: if you are seeking a date that could be a selling point to focus on Homer: Doh! it could also benefit you if you are seeking a change in employment  and you could top that because it could even help you get an intership for Obama or Clinton if they are elected into office

Casey² 7. April 2008, 15:27

You are on a roll today. In reply... I wasn't alive for watergate, because if I recall correctly, that'd be *eons* ago  I won't even reply to the dating comment :raises eyebrow: I like where I'm working  and I don't lie well at all, so that kills the government internship.

On momentous occasions my synapses do fire and I don't think that qualifies as one, so please forgive the lack of original thought.

Ripp 7. April 2008, 16:05

they all fire or one fires and the rest suck the life from that one?

Gees, you like your job, arent interested in dating, and dont lie :eyes: what is the world coming too

Casey² 7. April 2008, 17:32

It depends on the day and the person as to whether one fires or whether they all fire. Right now with about 3 1/2 hours of really poor sleep, I'm lucky to fire anything off, synapses or witty comments. I've definitely worked at worse places for worse wages, have a tendency to shock people, hence the lack of prospective dates, and when I said don't lie well, I meant I was bad at it when I did try so I just gave up on that. I'm in serious need of coffee, but I'm afraid I'll meet it when it comes back up.:yuck: However, trying to come up with replies to your posts has been the highlight of my day, because it makes me have to think. Very few people make me question why I think or act the way I do. That's not a bad thing, it's actually good. It's pulling me out of a rut of unoriginal thinking, that I hadn't realized I was in until now.

Ripp 7. April 2008, 22:10

Homer: Doh! out drinking until wee hours of the night; that answers the dating question :eyes: it also answer the question that you are not very religious  the worst wages in the worse places (that shock people) answers the question that was not yet asked as to bondage :eyes: am I close????????

I am so proud of myself; I am learning so much today about different people....

As for the original thought; it effects the best of us after 20 beers, 14 shots of tequila, 6 shots of rumplemintz and being hung by your wrists and whipped until 5:30 am on church night Homer: Doh! I mean I have been told it happens to the best

Casey² 8. April 2008, 01:04

 Not really. I have the start of the flu and seem to be beating it for the time being. Although, it does sound better telling people I was out drinking until the wee hours of the morning. As for religious, that depends upon your definition of religious.:right: I've done some carpentry, worked as a lifeguard, cleaned houses, worked as a housekeeper and night audit in a motel, and served food, did dishes, and cleaned rooms at a guest ranch. As for shocking people, well, you'd have to know me to understand that one. I only make jokes about bondage, having actually hit myself with a horse whip kills any use of whips in any manner.

I more of a whiskey drinker than anything though. If I do drink beer it's generally dark beer or malt beverages. I've never had rumplemintz or tequila and seeing as how I only weigh 105, that much alcohol would probably kill me. :eyes:

Ripp 8. April 2008, 02:01

 if you can drink whiskey you can drink tequila.

WOW, where could the comment go from that list??????? :eyes:

I will be nice since you "seem to be beating it for the time being" let me know when you are finished. I am amazed at how vocal you are about your personal life. I am much more reserved and tend to keep my personal life offline!!!

Casey² 8. April 2008, 02:09

 I tend to be more vocal online because I have never and most likely won't meet any of the people on here barring chance encounters. I'm more reserved in person until I really get to know some one really well. Yes, this is the honest truth, so don't scoff.

Ripp 8. April 2008, 02:29

Interesting. I tend to be less vocal online because you never know who could figure something out with listings etc... I tend to be cautious of the "big brother watching scenario".

I have met 2 people from online. I am not a small person so I tend to not be worried about anything dangerous. Now if some 500 pound transvestite comes after me I will run like a 9 year old girl chasing mily cyrus for free tickets

Aadil 8. April 2008, 03:12

You see Ripp, some of us live in a dream world called cyberspace. We don't get out much. We tend to vacation in another dream world called literature though from time to time. When we read, we kind of become part of the story. Almost like that book, "The Neverending Story." so we hardly know the "real" world. :D

Ripp 8. April 2008, 04:38

:eyes: how do you get titties then and beer then??

Melissa Renneberg 8. April 2008, 13:50

I think its easy to be more more vocal online then in real world. I find myself i more quiet preson in world around me and people put that down to shyness. But on the other hand I never went out online or real life to shock people but some art work i had done had in school and few people who dont understand i draw from comic art and fantasty art and bit of exotic not like hard core stuff but kinda bit softer. Any way I really like how people are

Ripp 8. April 2008, 15:32

Homer: Doh! You are too young to be drawing exotic even if it is soft core :eyes: gees, you aussie people are pervos

Melissa Renneberg 8. April 2008, 15:39

*look at ripp*to young narh never to young to go to life drawing class maybe your one them people who old fashioned and cant stand someone with more teltant then em p: but look at this way ripp you can dream about your old dude and drying he was doing

Ripp 8. April 2008, 16:01

As for the comment about "cant stand someone with more talent then em". My comment had nothing to do with that nor even close. As my comment was pretty much 95% sarcasm.

Melissa Renneberg 8. April 2008, 16:17

Riip, I know that, that why i use the smilely face with tung sticking out

Casey² 8. April 2008, 16:59

 She's got you there, Ripp! I do understand what you're getting at though with the "big brother watching you" though.

I like qlue's taste in books! I haven't heard anyone mention "The Neverending Story" in a long time.

Melissa Renneberg 8. April 2008, 17:20

Neverending Story :yikes: NOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo you evil evil women :irked: how dare you bring up the film I watch so much when I at grans one summer as result it left a part of me hateing it now :insane: now i going to have nightmares damn that movie freak me out  but i do think its fun movie now just need get in my undies and need old lady brush my hair as watch while eat some date pudding mmm *hide the sound track to Neverending Story* :right:

Melissa Renneberg 8. April 2008, 17:22

BTW do you like The Chronicles of Narnia i read all them books I just love CS Lewis books

Casey² 8. April 2008, 17:56

I love the Chronilces of Narnia! They were some of the first fantasy books I ever read. "The Neverending Story" movie was pretty cute.

Melissa Renneberg 8. April 2008, 18:07

Cute umm not sure on that hehe

Ripp 8. April 2008, 18:37

 sure sure

Casey² 8. April 2008, 18:40

 Was vaguely disturbing the term you were looking for?

Melissa Renneberg 8. April 2008, 18:41

Aadil 9. April 2008, 16:33

I've read so many sci-fi and fantasy books that I can't even recall all the titles. From the time I was able to read untill about 25 years ago, I was buried in a book almost all the time. Things just began to get too busy in my life to read like that. When I moved away from Johannesburg, books became very hard to come by. Thus, reading was sidelined and free time became work time. I've also read many books that cover non-fiction topics. Hence the reason I can mention obscure facts or theories that most people have never even heard of.

Melissa Renneberg 9. April 2008, 16:40

qlue, let hear one

Casey² 9. April 2008, 16:54

Similar thing here. Not so much with nonfiction though. It has to be something that I'm really interested in for me to keep at it. One of my friends in Montana has a library of about 3000 books. Mostly sci-fi and fantasy, but some thrillers, war stories, nonfiction, etc. I read alot of them in my early teens before I was able to afford my own.

Melissa Renneberg 9. April 2008, 17:01

I really have blame my folks, They use sit with me when I read like books like Tip the dog *no jokes plzs*if you dont know what tip the dog is, Its basicly book what grade 1 would read. Something like this
Here is tip the dog
tip like his big red ball
I was six when i start to read them and had alot difficulty reading them and use throw em around the room when i cant finsh a page of my own. So someone said to them to get me comic books dont recall who and i start to read them and slowly my reading got better. It would been age 10 i start to read novels but i have watch they can at times cant hold my atenion and get frusted with em

Casey² 9. April 2008, 17:11

There's nothing wrong with that. If it interests you, then you're more likely to learn from it. My brother and one of my sisters are the same way with reading. They had to find something that could hold their interest or they got (and still get) frustrated with it. We ended up homeschooling mostly for that reason. They needed the one-on-one learning, rather than group learning and that helped them out quite a bit once they did that.

Melissa Renneberg 9. April 2008, 17:17

Were you home school

Casey² 9. April 2008, 17:56

I don't know the laws in Australia, but in most of the US as long as you comply with state and federal laws you can teach yourself at home. Here we have to get a GED (General Education Diploma), which you can take an adult education center or college/university. We can take our college/university SAT's and such at the same places. If we needed help we got help from a tutor or a friend.
