Super Mario Galaxy brings video game entertainment to new levels

, , , ...

Update: This post was featured in N + and N + posted their own review. Go to the bottom of this post for more information.

The 16th of November 2007, Super Mario Galaxy for Wii achieved a higher average rating from websites with video game reviews than The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Super Mairo Galaxy had 97.9%, against The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's 97.5%. And it was well deserved.

After playing Super Mario Galaxy for a while, I'm in total awe. Everything is just so awesome about it. The gameplay is the richest I've ever experienced. Ideas from every era of Super Mario are mixed with new ideas, some never seen before in a game. Among the news are small planets, which have interesting gravity effects. You can actually orbit around some planets with a long jump. Some other news are the way you're launched from launch stars to visit new areas and planets, and things you can ride, such as koopa shells and manta rays and rolling orbs. Among the powerups; the fire flower and the rainbow star (invincibillity) return. You can also fly in this game with the bee mushroom.

The visuals in this game are absolutely stunning and a feast for the eyes. The 3D models are enhanced with beautiful effects. It doesn't matter if the Wii doesn't pack the most graphics power. The visuals of Super Mario Galaxy makes it clear that it's one of the big boys in terms of game graphics on consoles today.

Listen to more of the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack here.

The soundtrack is so fantastic it's hard to describe it. It's incredibly rich. You'll find both new melodies and melodies you love from previous games. They're beautifully arranged with their own orchestra, or some times exciting electronica. The soundtrack change with new areas or events, sparking stronger feelings. This is the first game I've played with music that make the game more entertaining.

Super Mario Galaxy is everything you know from previous Mario games and more. It's a long-lasting, entertaining experience. It's memorable and replayable. This game will be remembered as the highlight of gaming in this decade. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Excite Truck and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption together with software like The Internet Channel made the Wii much more than worth it. With the addition of Super Mario Galaxy to the Wii game catalouge, I'd say not owning a Wii and one or more of these games is a shame. Because you're missing out on some the best entertainment you can experience today.

5 things I'd like to see in Opera tag

, , , ...

zomg tagged me. And the game is 5 things I'd like to see in Opera. It started here. Read that blog post for more information about the game. Here's my list in no particular order:

  1. Menus on toolbars expand automatically just like in the menu bar.
  2. Scrolling bookmarks menu instead of an expanding menu with more items.
  3. Option to add a new toolbar to the browser yourself.
  4. Installing UserJS as easily as installing Widgets in Opera.
  5. Dynamic installable menus that can fetch information from the web.

The next victims are...

Thủy Hiền, Patrick McFarland, Giania, anzah and Furie.

Two of these are from outside My Opera. But I think they both can provide valuable information about Opera. One is not an Opera user, but a knowledgeable person that knows what he wants. He might have seen something that Opera users have overlooked. The other one is an Opera user more active in other communities. She also has been very helpful in the promotion of Opera.

Oh Santa I want...

, , , ...

So it's Xmas this month. And everyone will soon be busy preparing. All the kids and the grown up kids are anticipating the big day. And the gifts!
While Xmas isn't all about getting stuff, but giving away stuff, I'm going to show you my wishlist for Xmas. I'll probably buy some of this stuff myself.

Nintendo Wii. The most innovative games console in this generation. Nintendo Wii don't pack powerful hardware like its competitors but it features a motion sensitive controller and Opera's web browser. I want a black one to go with my DS. It's not about the graphics. It's about the fun.

Sony Ericsson K800i. Cellphone of the year 2006 in Norway. This one would be a worthy successor to my K600i, which has lots of features I love.

Apple Macbook Pro. A really sexy computer. But it's not all about the looks. Macbooks are simply better than PC competitors. No matter how you look at it. *Drooool*

These are the games I want for the Launch of Nintendo Wii in Norway. Red Steel is one of the most anticipated games for the Wii and they say The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is worth buying a Wii for alone.

A vaccum cleaner?!?!? How did that one sneak in among otherwhise geeky toys? Well. My current one is broken and it will break again if I try to fix it. I want a proper vaccum cleaner that will not break.

K-FED: Dancing with Fire

This is the best flash game I've played in a while. It's a first person fighting game made by the very skilled founder of Newgrounds, Tom Fulp. Artwork by Jeff Bandelin. Stamper also helped making this game. It's a point-and-click game where you move your mouse in a direction and click to do different moves.
