Karel KrylBrought up in Kroměříž, this folk singer and poet appeared on the boards in Teplice (Divadýlko pro známý) and Prague (Semafor, Viola) and in Czechoslovak Radio. In 1968, after the invasion of the armed forces of the Warsaw Treaty, his song Brother, Close the Gate became the symbol of resistance. After Kryl emigrated to West Germany in 1969, where he began to work for Radio Free Europe, his songs were prohibited in Czechoslovakia and it was not until December 1989 that he could return home.
