iframe closed, Google open

Google has now finally closed their iframe, and fixed the problem with Orkut scrapbook. So, now it will work again in Opera, and their own Astroid browser. Thanks for that. I'm sure our users will very much appreciate it, as this issue has been hugely reported. I hear murmurs from QA that they finally don't have to mark duplicate bugs all day. Thanks to all the users that wrote in. Have fun. I never really realised how popular Orkut was. Even huge sites like Yahoo! Mail never had so many duplicates when it was broke.

Orkut scrapbook broken in Opera and Safari

, ,

Many people may have noticed that Orkut recently broke in Opera. As it happens it also breaks in WebKit browsers such as Safari. The reason is that there is a missing closing iframe element. Firefox for some reason reads the closing tag from inside a comment. The Orkut issue is well known, so please don't send any more duplicate bug reports . I've been in contact with Google and gave them the solution (add the closing iframe), and they are looking for someone to fix the issue. It should be fixed for Opera and Safari shortly.

I'm compressed

, ,

Some news hot off the press. Google now GZIP compresses their web pages, even when you identify as Opera. The effect of this is that Google's pages now will load faster in Opera. This is especially noticeable on text heavy pages, as content such as images are usually compressed to some degree already.

Previously Google was sending text/html to Opera, while sending GZIP'ed content to the other browsers, such as IE and Firefox. This gave the impression that Opera was slower. A big thank you goes out to Google and Hallvord for fixing this issue and allowing Opera an equal footing.
