YouTube issues

, , , ,

Some people have been experiencing issues with YouTube on the trial version of the Wii Browser. This is something both Opera and youTube are looking into and we'll do our best to solve this issue and report back as soon as the issue is identified. Prior to the release of the Wii Browser, we have been working with Youtube to solve issues, such as full screen playback and optimisation due to memory requirements. YouTube was working up until earlier today. I assure you that there is no conspiracy on the part of YouTube or Opera.

There will always be teething troubles with things such as this, as there are limited Wiis available to test on, and with Christmas looming many people are off travelling back to their families. I actually wasn't aware of this issue until I turned my phone back on after clearing customs at Newcastle Airport. Before leaving everything was working great. Please be patient while we work on this and have a very merry Christmas from everyone here at Opera.

In related news, I've just updated my post on designing for Wii to mention the Flash version and the browsers Small Screen Rendering like capabilities.

Why don't just hire some Wii owners to test it out . I mean theres a bunch on this site. Unless it isn't as easy as it seems. Also if you are planning on doing that, I would certianly participate.

ALSO using opera from my wii ...looking good and very fast, thank you !!! NOW the thing that bugs me the most is the lack of support for any quality video format, could we please have QUICKTIME or WMP installed ... how are we supposed to watch the F4 SILVER SURFER teaser on apple.com !!!???
THANK you smile

Nintendo would have to strike a deal with Apple and Microsoft for the Wii Browser to support Quicktime and Windows Media content. Who knows what could happen in the future though. Many major sites are moving over to the Flash Video approach take by YouTube however. MTV is a good example of a site, where its Overdrive video content was only available on IE and Windows, due to using Windows Media and Active-X. It recently moved to Flash at it works on most browsers and platforms.
