Bookmark Folder vs Sessions Manager

,

Sessions Manager is a great feature, but it's suffering from immature development. Currently, we can't edit or modify session's content, it's UI is hidden deep within Menu bar, & sometime older session will overwrite the browser's current settings with an older settings...etc. Thus, I'm going to show you how to utilize your bookmarks folder to create a superior version of Sessions manager.

How to create a Sessions Manager with bookmark folder?
1. First, create a new folder on the top level of Bookmarks panel & name it 'SESSIONS. This folder will serve as a Parent folder to hold all of your sessions.

2. Next, right-click on 'SESSIONS > New Separator to add a separator below 'SESSIONS.

3. Finally, reorder the 'SESSIONS (folder) position to the top section to separate it from the other bookmarks & folders. If you did it correctly, your bookmarks panel should look similar to this:
4. Now, you can create new session (folder) by create new bookmark folder under 'SESSIONS with desired Name, & then right-click on that newly created session (folder) > Bookmark all open pages to add all opened tabs into that session (folder). You can get buttons from HERE to simplify the process.

NOTE: Bookmark all open pages will ONLY bookmarked ALL tabs within current window, thus you have to repeat step 4 to bookmark tabs from other windows independently (if there are multiple windows).

Let's try something the default Sessions Manager can't do!!!

A. Edit/Modify/Merge any session
Just add/remove/relocate any bookmark to manipulate any session! Oh, what a joy...

B. Shortcut to sessions from Personal bar?
The default Session Manager is hidden deep within the Menu bar, now you can just drag the 'SESSIONS folder into the Personal bar & you got yourself a shortcut to a list of all sessions... :D

C. Go! Opera Link
Yes, now you can get access to Sessions from Opera Link too (require Opera 9.5+)...
Just sync your bookmarks with Opera Link, & go to Opera Link > Bookmarks > 'SESSIONS

D. Open session with Nickname supported functions!
How about open a session with Nickname supported functions? Just add nickname to any session (folder), & you can open 'em with:

1. Address bar/Go to page (F8/F2) - Just input the assigned nickname & hit Enter key...

2. Go to nickname (Shift + F2) - Just input the assigned nickname...

3. Hotkey/Mouse Gesture - Setup some Hotkey/MG with these actions:
Go to nickname, "x" to open Session "x" in current window...
New browser window & Go to nickname, "x" to open Session "x" in a new window...

E. Buttons & Shortcuts?
Yep! I created some very useful buttons & syntax to make your life a lot easier when using this artificial Sessions Manager... Go get 'em from HERE!

 Vote for Sessions Panel!

Did I bookmarked this page yet?!!Open Bookmarks inside Panel?

Is there a way to add a Speed Dial Tab links as a session in Bookmarks Manager, but with 2 extra features:
- click on its folder - and it opens a Speed Dial Tab instead of opening a folder in Panel, i.e. the folder acts like a link to the Tab;
- Speed Dial Thumbnails are saved as a part of their Bookmark info.

I agree, sessions and speed dial tabs have all similar purpose, and should be integrated into an updated Bookmark Manager, with all info on each link saved in the same format. Actually, Speed Dial Snapshots can be made updateable at link access time to avoid storing them in Bookmarks.
I wonder, if it all can be done by a user, since no bookmark format change is needed?

Awesome!

I'm no new to Opera (or computers for that matter), but some things never cross my mind, no matter how many times I actually see them or need them.

Simple, efficient, what I needed. Thanks!

A script or some other means to make it automatic when closing Opera will be nice.
