Bookmark Texts Within Any Webpage (Part 2)

, ,

Previously, I show you how to Bookmark Texts Within Any Webpage using Web Notes. However, the bookmark texts process is not quit intuitive... So, this time I'm going to show you how to improve it to become a more user-friendly tool!

First, create a new folder in Notes panel with this name: READING LIST:, then add a separator under it.
Now, we will setup menu, button, & shortcuts to add Web Note to READING LIST: with ease...

A. Setup Menu for Add to Reading List command
If you don't know how to edit menu setup, read this TUTORIAL before you proceed further...

1. First, open standard_menu (1).ini with text editor.
(Renamed standard_menu (1).ini to something else to prevent Opera from overwrite it)

2. Next, find [Hotclick Popup Menu] & [Link Selection Popup Menu] sections, add this line under 'em:

Item, Add to Reading List=Focus panel, "notes" & Delay, 10 & Focus previous widget & Focus previous widget & Focus page & Activate hotlist window & Focus previous widget & Activate hotlist window & Focus next widget & Clear & Insert, "READING LIST:" & Go & Clear & Focus next widget & Open item & Copy to note & Delay, 1000 & Set alignment, "hotlist", 0

3. Finally, save & close the document after you're done. Fire-up Opera & select the newly modified menu setup to apply the changes you just made.

B. Buttons
These buttons will highlight bookmarked text on page, & also create Web Note in READING LIST: folder. You should place one of 'em in the Notes Panel:

Button A: Highlight Text + Add to Reading List
Single-click to highlight bookmarked text; Press & hold to add highlighted text to Reading List

Button B: Highlight Text + Add to Reading List
Click icon to highlight bookmarked text; Click arrow to add highlighted text to Reading List

Opera 10 Buttons
Button A: Highlight Text + Add to Reading List
Button B: Highlight Text + Add to Reading List

C. Setup Shortcuts
1. First, go to Preferences (Ctrl+F12) > Advanced > Shortcuts > Mouse/Keyboard Setup.
(& create a new mouse/keyboard setup, if you didn't do that already)

2. Next, double-click on a Mouse/Keyboard setup you want to use, select Application section.

3. Finally, create/modify a shortcut with your preferred MG/Hotkey with the following actions:

Add highlighted text to READING LIST: folder
Focus panel, "notes" & Delay, 10 & Focus previous widget & Focus previous widget & Focus page & Activate hotlist window & Focus previous widget & Activate hotlist window & Focus next widget & Clear & Insert, "READING LIST:" & Go & Clear & Focus next widget & Open item & Copy to note Delay, 1000 & Set alignment, "hotlist", 0
Highlight bookmarked text

Reload & Highlight note & Copy & Set alignment, "hotlist", 0 & Delay, 1 & Find inline, 1 & Paste & Delay, 50 & Stop

Opera 10 syntax for highlight bookmarked text
Reload & Delay, 100 & Stop & Highlight note & Copy & View hotlist & Find inline, 1 & Paste

D. How It Works?
1. To bookmark a sentence within a page, simply triple-click on a text within that sentence to highlight the whole sentence. Then execute Add to Reading List command via context menu/button/shortcut to create a Web Note inside READING LIST: folder with the highlighted sentence.

2. When you want to continue from where you previously left-off, return to that page (double-click the Web Note to do so), then execute Highlight Text command via button/shortcut to highlight the sentence you bookmarked earlier. You can hit F3 to highlight the bookmarked sentence again if you didn't use any Find function after the Highlight Text command.

WARNING: Highlight Text command will not work properly if you modified the Web Note content, you will also lost clipboard content after using Highlight Text command!

UPDATE: Added Opera 10 version buttons & syntax.

dude09 21. October 2009, 14:18

(The link point to nowhere, but my guess is you want to copy the format instead of just the text???)

Sorry, I can't help you with that...
Maybe this link will help you:

Too bad, AFAIK Opera do not allow copy images into clipboard.

How to use Quote function:

  1. Select some text
  2. Click on the Quote link
