Open Bookmarks from a Folder in a Single Window
Tuesday, 24. February 2009, 16:56:31
Have you ever try to open all bookmarks from a folder into another single window at once? That's right... YOU CAN'T!!! For some reason, Opera is missing a command for open all items from a folder into another single window. What a shame, such a great browser doesn't provide any command for such simple task... But despair not, for I have come up with a few tricks to allow you to do so!
A. Setup Shortcuts
1. First, go to Preferences (Ctrl+F12) > Advanced > Shortcuts > Mouse/Keyboard Setup.
(& create a new mouse/keyboard setup, if you didn't do that already)
2. Next, double-click on a Mouse/Keyboard setup you want to use, select Bookmarks Panel section.
3. Finally, create shortcuts with your preferred MG/Hotkey with these actions:
View hotlist & Delay, 10 & New browser window & Focus panel, "bookmarks" & Open link & View hotlistOpen in a background window
New browser window & Focus panel, "bookmarks" & Open link & View hotlist & Minimize window
B. Setup Menu
If you don't know how to edit menu setup, read this TUTORIAL before you proceed further...
1. First, open the standard_menu (1).ini with text editor.
(Renamed standard_menu (1).ini to something else to prevent Opera from overwrite it)
2. Next, find [Bookmark Item Popup Menu] section, then add this lines under it:
Item, "Open in A New Window"=View hotlist & Delay, 10 & New browser window & Focus panel, "bookmarks" & Open link & View hotlist Item, "Open in A Background Window"=New browser window & Focus panel, "bookmarks" & Open link & View hotlist & Minimize window
3. When you're done, save & close the document. Select the newly modified menu setup in Opera to apply the changes you just made. That's it!
C. Buttons
Drag one of these buttons into the Bookmarks Panel:
Button A: Open Folder in A New Window
Click to open folder's content into a new window; Press & hold to open 'em in a background window
Button B: Open Folder in A New Window
Click icon to open folder's content into a new window; Click arrow to open 'em in a background window
D. How It Works?
Select a folder & execute the command via shortcuts/menu/button to open it's content in a new/background window. This trick will only work with one folder at a time, thus you can't open multiple folders in multiple windows in groups for each individual folder at once. ONLY the Opera developers will able to modify the open folder items behavior, so vote & let 'em know you want this function available!
