Milosevic died last WE

I don't want to state on this person being good or bad, this is not the topic of this post.
Among the things said around his death were that he was poisoned, he was sick and did not received appropriate treatment for his disease.
This made me smile a bit, 'cuz we all are (well at least the foreigners knowing a different health care system)!
I lived here 8 years ago went back to Belgium now back again to Holland. I didn't realize the situation was that bad here. I have children and that worries me a lot.
I'm scared listening stories of my friends going to the huisarts (doctor). Most of the time it's like wait a little to see if it becomes better after 3 days or, when the situation looks not that good, have some paracetamol and stay home for a week... Don't ask about dental care, I prefer to drive 3 hours to my dentist in Liège.
This year the insurance system changed. It seems that a lot of people complained about it but they resigned.
The problem here is like in the army. There is a doctor you are 'assigned' to in your neighbourghood. Should he be good or bad, it doesn't matter, he will always have his 'quota' of patients. This doesn't encourage the guy to get his pratice a bit better.
We hope the new system wil trigger that.
Milo, I'm sorry for you but you apparently were victim of what all every other dutch citizens and residents are: a damned bad national health care system.

Mijn bakker is rich!

The first thing I got really disappointed with in this country was the bread.
You come in and look at the shelves in the bakery corner in Albert H, C1000, Dirk,... whatever supermarket, for that nice bread with that tasty crusty crust. Well ... it looks like crusty crust. Push your finger into it and it feels as spongeous as Bob.
All those industrial breads on the shelves have a texture similar to a sponge. I believe you could use it to wash your car.
Now find a real bakker in holland must be exceptional. And I believe this is the reason why at the canteen, they sell those real bakker made muffins at 1.75 €. Which is approximately the price of a 800gr. bread in Belgium. -that real bread, not of those industrial sponges.

How can you live in this country?

This is my second coming to the Netherlands. Now I'm here to stay with my family.

Within 5 years, I do not know if this the way I see things or if the country changed that much but things look very different nowadays.
The thing that I am very much annoyed with is the service quality level. It is close to none.
I experience frustrations almost everyday - think my job is to deliver an utmost quality level to my customers.

I needed a mobile phone, so, I thought I would go back to the last operator I used before I went back to Belgium: KPN Mobile. Everything went well and friendly until the vendor at the Primafone shop told me I had to dial that free number to get final directions about how to get the phone of my choice. Which I did the next day. Bad surprize!
I was required to give 450 euros as bail, that is twice the price of the hardware. Sit on it!
I then walked into a Vodafone shop. After 2 hours, I walked out not with one but 2 brand new UMTS mobile phones without having to pay a cent. Then I felt happy, that was a deal. Well...
After a little over a month, my V1050 Motorola was having the white screen problem. I went back to the shop to get it repaired and there was the bad surprise. I could not believe to get such stupid support from the guys in Kinkerstraat. The phone had to be sent for 3 weeks to the repair service...
- We will call you when it is ready!
- Ah! to which number? This one ? (I was holding the sim card between my fingers)
- Yes, your mobile phone number.
- Nice! How do I make it work without a mobilephone? Don't you give one in replacement during these 3 weeks?
- No.
- Well I have an insurance!
- It does not cover that situation.
- ?? Why not ??
- It is a different insurance.
- So why didn't you tell me about it when I signed for the insurance?
- We have so many products that we do not want to loose time to explain all...
What did put me on a bad mood is the fact that Vodafone.nl does not even offer the service to rent you a spare phone whilst yours is on repair. If even I had the intention to pay for that service, it does not exist!
They started the countdown to the withdraw of my collaboration to Vodafone network... still 16 monthes to go.

One day I went to the Stairway in Utrecht. I had my belgian friends with me. I recalled this used to be a nice place and the food was OK.
We sat at a table and after we ordered, that young guy came to set the table.
He did not even think about cleaning the table. He just placed those rectangular paper sheets and the dishes. The table was so dirty that the handkerchief we used to clean a little turned black. Did he care about this? Not at all.

It is only 2 examples but this is what a foreigner will have to suffer if coming to the Netherlands. It seems that for the dutch is it 'normaal', they do not care... at all.
