Mark & The Norwegians

Much Ado About Something--I'm Just Not Sure What It Is . . .

Snow in Sandnes

The storm that was supposed to flood the Netherlands and east England came through the North Sea and gave us a lot of rain and very high winds. Last night it even gave us a little snow, and me without my snow tires on yet . . .

Even a little snow can make the constancy of the gloomy weather and the intermittent rain seem more bearable. Very pretty this morning on waking up, but alas not much in volume.

Actually, it hasn't been all that cold yet this winter. We are lighting fires more for the ambience than for the need of heat. It is getting darker a lot earlier now. Being Norwegian veterans of one year, we are prepared for the descent into insanity and depression such an absence of light portends. We are stocking up on diet coke (when they have it at the U.S. shoppette) and candy-canes--which taken together are a big part of what makes life worth living.

Of course, we have to watch Rebecca the closest for signs of insanity. For instance, she enjoys writing, and reading books by silly English ladies with entirely too much time on their hands, rather than sensible authors like Terry Pratchett. I wonder how many, commas, I can, use, in a, sentence?

We are starting to look forward to our quick visit to London at the end of November. Of course with the dollar/pound rate being what it is, we will only be down to one meal a day. I have some NATO business for two days of our trip, but at least the family should be able to see a few things during our trip.

That's it from snowy (kind of) Norway.
