Mark & The Norwegians

Much Ado About Something--I'm Just Not Sure What It Is . . .

Rena, Norway

Sometimes I get the chance to go see things in my NATO capacity that I normally would never get an opportunity to see otherwise . . .

Today I got on a plane at O-Dark-Thirty (actually 0640) to fly to Oslo, then rental car with two of the Norwegian headquarters staff to drive about two hours north and east to visit the Norwegian Army base at Rena.

The day (once it got light) was beautiful, and the snow was extremely picturesque. We got to see their training and simulation facilities which are very advanced and interesting. But the temperatures were low, the air crisp, and the snow deep (or at least kind of deep)--which added to the visit quite a bit coming from rainy Stavanger.

After a couple of briefings and tours of facilities we headed back to Gardermoen airport (north of Oslo by a few kilometers), and got to our SAS flight just in time to make it home.

A nice change of pace from the day-to-day business here in Stavanger.
