Another grey day here in Stavanger, Norway. At least it's not raining right now. Decided to get out some today, so . . .

First went by Ikea to price some of the furniture we might get (once I run it by the accounting department). Think we can do O.K. at Ikea, better prices than the two other furniture stores I looked at. Unfortunately, the entire population of Stavanger, Sola, Sandnes, and a few others as well were all shopping at Ikea. Someone told me that they plan to expand the store. Given the business, they should.

I am experimenting with the small and bizarre washer and dryer in my bathroom. Not as strange as the Korean washer/dryer combo unit I had, but control panel is far from intuitive. We'll see how it turns out--seems like it takes a very long time to go through one load of wash? Is 7 hours of washing for one load excessive I wonder? (just kidding).

After Ikea, I decided to drive into the Norwegian countryside along with everyone who wasn't shopping at Ikea. Apparently every full-blooded Norwegian (in between shopping at Ikea and driving to/from Ikea) goes to their weekend hytte (or "hut" in English--good thing I can translate these difficult terms) to relax from the grinding pace of shopping at Ikea. These hytte-seeking Norwegians clog up the roads, park along the very narrow country lanes, and otherwise seem to occupy the countryside. The audacity of these people. You'd think it was their country or something.

Took some photos (uploaded in my photo album), and saw some sheep, cows, horses, etc. The route I drove is shown below:

Came back into town, checked out a sports store, an electronics store, and an office supply star so I know where to get most of the necessities of life.

Paid my 582 Kroner for gas (3/4 of a tank or so)--close to $100. Makes west coast gas seem almost reasonable in comparison. Back to Stavanger to finish (hopefully) laundry.

Planning to attend the Stavanger International Church tomorrow morning.

All for now.
