I think I can officially say I am acclimated to the Stavanger timezone, and that jetlag is over. Woke up at 0800-ish, loitered about, checked e-mail, stopped by the hotel restaurant for breakfast, then walked to the historic Hetland Church about 5-10 minutes away where the Stavanger International Church meets. No other congregation meets in the church, and I think it is basically treated as a historic landmark by the city of Stavanger. It is the second oldest church I think, other than the "cathedral-like" church downtown.

Service was most like an Episcopal one, other than not having communion. Visiting pastor covering while regular pastor is on vacation.

There have been intermittent periods of actual sunlight and patches of blue sky today . . .

Watched the Argentina-Mexico world-cup match last night. How many times can the ball go back and forth between two teams? Thought I was watching ping-pong.

All for the nonce.

Back again. Skype seems to work pretty well from "Skype-r" to "Skype-r". At least my call with Elizabeth seemed better quality than the phone/Skype combination.

I uploaded some tourist-y photos on the blog to capitalize on the brief sunny interlude today.

Here is a photo of the Hetland Church that I went to today. Historically, this was one of the last churches that Norwegian immigrants to the U.S. would attend prior to boarding ships for America.

And here is Stavanger's harbor in the sun.
