Guess I'm getting lazy with no post yesterday. Please indulge me, was a rare nice day yesterday and was trying to enjoy it? Or maybe I was just lazy.
Today seems to have gone pretty well. Meeting with one of my branches to go over what their function is, etc. Very informative and somewhat encouraging that folks seem to know what they're doing. The overarching organizational context is confusing at best, and fraught with some political inefficiency on many issues. But within that milieau/millyou/milu (you get the point right?), our folks seem to be operating pretty well.
Raced over to vehicle registration for the dreaded vehicle inspection prior to getting Norwegian license plates. Was worried about this as I believe the Toyota's parking lights are out of tolerance on placement and color of bulb. This might entail drilling and installation of supplementary parking lights or something.
Fortunately, it was all the inspector could do to enter U.S. style data (inches, pounds, etc.) into the computer form in metric. Then when their entire system went down, along with the 30-minutes of trying to figure out what to do, he became pretty apologetic. When the system came back up, he basically finished the paperwork and sent me to administration where I paid the hefty sum of 833 kroner (about $150) and got my plates at 3:15 as the last customer prior to them closing. So, I sailed through in spite of my apprehensions--a real answer to prayer.
Tomorrow comes the tale of the license plate mounting (they're the long narrow European kind).
All for now.
Back again . . .
Decided to get a few more pictures as it is such a beautiful day today. Low 60's, sunny, blue skies, clear, etc.
Here is a picture of the countryside from one of the hills a couple of kilometers from the old town.

And here is the northern side of Jatta mountain.

And here is the famous 3-swords monument commemorating the unification of Norway at a battle in the vicinity of Stavanger.

There are a few more photos on the photo page for you to look at. A really nice day here is very much like a beautiful day in Washington with a few differences . . . here, almost wherever you are, you can see the sea or a fjord, along with hills, and a lot of greenery. Here you don't have the tall douglas firs, or the majesty of Mt. Rainier, but you don't really have the traffic either.
