Very busy day today, but I'm feeling a lot better health-wise. Started out early after 0630 breakfast, at office by 0730. Delivered new arrival to admin for inprocessing. On to 0900 meeting with my boss, then 1000 presentation on our budget at the conference site, stopped by landlord's bank by 1100 to drop off rent (into his account) for half of July, finally back to office by 12-ish. A spot of shopping (dinner tonight) at the shoppette, checked e-mail at office. 1300 meeting with boss and fellow division chiefs, departed early to take new arrival back to hotel.
On to house to meet with landlord and rental agency at 1500. Went over house inspection form with landlord--pointing out known defects. Rental agency took electric meter reading and called Lyse (electrical company) to change accounts over to me. I now have keys to house in possession, but won't stop by until tomorrow evening as landlord is still working feverishly to clean, pack, throw away, etc. He left a fair amount of furniture for us to use. Worst case if we don't like it is to put it into one of two storage rooms that are now empty in the basement--so I thought it was fine. I intend to take many digital pictures of house condition and furniture condition, but he was very casual about it.
Seeing the place empty does give me some misgivings. Various imperfections, spots on a few walls from holes that were filled in, then painted with slightly off-color paint, etc. But, hey, we got spoiled in Kuwait City and in Lacey. I do think this house will work for us. May not be a thing of beauty, but . . . we can be content here I think. Others are basically paying more than housing allowance to get high quality places.
Bathroom on ground floor has a shower, not a tub. So . . . small room with closet (and built-in table/desk thing), bathroom, and study could be master bedroom area, as upstairs master bedroom is very small--likely all that would fit is our bed. Disadvantage is that all three of these first floor rooms have doors on to a small hall/foyer near the stairs--so really not a suite.
Some light fixtures are remaining--specifically in dining room, living room, and over where landlord had kitchen table. New dryer is now in the basement. New exterior locks put in. Microwave remaining in kitchen along with dishwasher, range/stove, refrigerator. Freezer chest also remaining in basement stairwell area.
All for now . . .
And back again after a quick walk-around of the old harbor area. Here is a picture of an old-style sail boat next to the oil museum.
And here is one of the big ocean-going tugs/oil industry workboats you see a lot in Stavanger. One thinks of huge waves in the North Sea in January looking at these boats/ships--and the stalwart Norwegian souls who man them . . . of course, they might sub-contract out to Pakistanis for all I know.
