Imagine my chagrin at pulling up my blog site only to see that the last entry was 19 July. Five days without a post, embarassingly poor posting. In my defense, still don't have internet (or phone, for that matter) at the house, thus opportunities are less frequent to access the blog site.
Elizabeth and the kids have departed the west coast and are now ensconced in the mugginess of Sterling, Virginia. Though it appears that the west coast was no paragon of cool temperatures--looks like they escaped one swath of humidity for another. Well, when they get to Norway, the mugginess will end I can assure you.
Lots of stress and transition for the family as they've gone from one temporary place to another, but I am pretty confident that the benefits far outway the inconveniences. It is very encouraging to hear of the kids' great time at the camp and with grandparents et al. They'll need to "bank" these memories for a long dry-spell here across the Atlantic. They're now getting to spend some time with Virginia grandparents, and I know they'll enjoy that too.
My painting project is almost complete at the house. All of it for one small room, but the grey-painted wall-paper was just too dingy to tolerate. My idyllic quietness was broken Saturday night with the across-the-street neighbors party. The music (quite loud and "hear-able" across the street) went on until 0300. Otherwise the neighborhood is very quiet, so was a bit disappointed. Not speaking Norwegian does limit the complaint options. I was thinking of revving my car outside their windows for about 10 minutes at 0600 just to wake them up, but . . . I didn't.
Though we have a small back yard, all of the houses are very tightly placed, and I feel a lack of privacy. Interestingly, it seems the Norwegians aren't so encumbered as most windows in the neighborhood are not curtained or covered.
I went by Ikea (where, as you recall, you can find about 70% of Stavanger on most weekends) and got a table for the computer (actually for us--to use the computer) and a set of blinds for the small "renovation room".
All for now . . .
