Not much to write about I’m afraid. Let’s see, what among the trivia of my life is remotely interesting? I think I got paid this month, at least the pay voucher had a whole bunch of money on it—now I’m trying to decipher it to ensure that all travel pay, housing allowance, etc. is correct. After calling the finance folks, I think I understand it (kind of). Our pay people are kind of tricky, you’ve always got to watch them . . . On to the cashier to cash a five-thousand dollar check for rent, etc. (yikes).
Still no D-number, so no Norwegian bank account, thus all transactions in cash. Kind of a pain, especially since so many of the Norwegian bills, etc. are designed to be paid by “giro”—kind of an online banking system.
Invited a co-worker over for dinner last night. Made a salad, spaghetti (with my special sauce), etc. He was supposed to bring the bread. Well 7:00 PM came and went, 8:00 PM came and went, finally by 9:00 he was back at the hotel, and answered the phone. Turns out he followed my directions but didn’t register on the house number, and sat for an hour outside a similar brown house about a block away, finally giving up in disgust. He thought I had forgotten or gotten delayed or something. He left the loaf of bread on the front stoop, which I later recovered. Not sure what the Norwegians thought about the whole thing.
Weather remains generally pleasant—highs yesterday in the high 70’s, usually starting out in the morning about 60-65.
Well, all for now . . .
