Hard Shelled Detective Fiction by Edward Piercy

Union artillery battery.

Me and my friend Sean went out today to watch the annual Civil War
reenactment held by the Washington Civil War Association (WCWA) out at
Riverside Park. This year the reenactment was of the Battle of New
Market. The WCWA lets the North win one year and the South the next.
This year was the South's turn to win the field of battle -- as they did
in the original battle on May 15, 1864.

You can catch more photos of the event at Sean's blog.

Coming back in we passed a couple of the local cemeteries. It is always
tougher observing Memorial Day here in the U.S. knowing your country is
at war.

Look good Ed... you add some grain to those? A little vignetting and its set!

My favorite is the lady up in the first ones, and the guy with the Ray Bans or whatever... it is what it is; a reenactment... but it sort of 'ruined' a few of mine as far as looking as period shots.

My best one is the guy that kept talking to us, his wife sold us the cream sodas... I will send it to you know. You can post it here if you want.

Boy, I sure do have a defined hairline there don't I... when it's short it doesn't look that way. And to any ladies: the camera adds 10-30 pounds.

it did it again... the error, it does NOT like what I type in there... (albeit I copied and pasted the first security text)... but if you hit back, it shows you the same text to type in, but I think the server has set a new session and is expected what I am putting now, a refresh... good thing I copied my original text.

Opera... dang you!!!

I think these varying blogs must have some sort of secret anti-text-editor spy thing going on and they're at war with each other.

I added a LOT of sharpening. Which is okay for the web. Not so good for anything else. I'll stop by your blog in the next days to see what you put up. In the meantime, I'll check the mails.

I missed those Ray-Bans completely. And then there's the uniform -- ya think Elton John might have been there on the sly?

As far as your hair goes, I'm sure it's just "perspective distortion."

Interesting photos.

In my part of the world, we don´t have that memorial day thing. For some reason.

I like the spectacular scenens here - mainly for the historical background.

Very nice photographs - I would have enjoyed the reenactment too. And I would looking at the cemeteries with more feeling than usual. Thanks for this post.

@ Allan. Since your visit I've darkened a few of the photos up a bit. They looked okay in Photoshop against the 18% gray background, but not so good on the blog against the black background.

@ Richard. Richard, I kept thinking about your WWII reenactment photos the entire time I was out there. Thanks for the inspiration!
