JULY UPDATE:

Well after the sadness associated with the one year anniversary
of my dog Baron's death, July opens out in happiness with the
one year birthday of my new dog Sasha. I have a birthday party
planned for her with her two dachshund friends Annabelle and Lexie
upstairs. So I'll be doing a post on that when it happens. As far
as other news I'm using the new Blackberry about 10X more than I
thought I would when I bought it. So I'm glad I got the Unlimited
Plan. :D This 4th of July is looking like it will be a good one.
I have a few minor plans, nothing of much consequence but things
which will let me get out of my normal rut for a while. And those
things might result in a few posts also. In fact more and more it
seems that I come here to blog my life -- the Four Seasons tag is
getting used quite a bit these days. But while it's not exactly
that I thought of using my blog that way from the beginning, it
does seem strangely appropriate these days. Write the walls. Seal
the tomb.
Anyway, have a great month folks and enjoy the holidays.

Best wishes to all,
Edward Piercy

My friend, had you been sick ? How are you now? Hope you feel better.
I am here, at your blog, because I like it very much. I love the small poem about the fallen angel, it is very nice and funny, I laughed reading it a lot.
Kisses for you ... and if you need a better weather you can make a trip to any of Mexico´s beaches. You are going to be my guest of honor.

greenwitch3 19. March 2008, 19:02

I am going to post the fallen angel´s poem at by blog, is it right? Can I do that ? Arent you be angry with me ?

edwardpiercy 19. March 2008, 19:36

You can go ahead, I don't mind.

greenwitch3 19. March 2008, 19:47

re "I also felt the blog moving in the new direction that I spoke of
last month, though I still don't know exactly what that is.
"

It was always a blog that had a splendid movement. Now add "Impressive and even more Magnificent" and the movement becomes a manifestation of your considerable talent.

That's my opinion and I know what I'm talking about.

Glad you are better

edwardpiercy 17. April 2008, 20:03

Thanks a million for the encouragement, Loku.

Hey Edward.
There´s a lot to read at your place here. Look forward to do just that

I_ArtMan 23. July 2008, 05:38

"Somewhere between belief and knowledge,
there's guessing."

that's a rather tantalizing statement. you have trumped the sad existentialists. sartre, camus, kierkegaard, kafke, who all drove themselves and their contemporaries either totally nuts or suicidal.

they just couldn't reconcile their conditioning with their reason. so sad. but they did provide a stepping stone.

i like this line because it opens the question of the meaning of existence. which i hope will remain open forever. for everyone.
like that great mind einstein is quoted as saying... " answers are dead. questions are alive."

edwardpiercy 23. July 2008, 05:40

Great quote by Einstein. And thanks for your comments, Scott. Gives me more to think about.

noah counte 23. July 2008, 21:15

Happy Raymond Chandler's Birthday, Edward! :hat:

edwardpiercy 23. July 2008, 21:30

It is?

Oh, it is.

:drunk:

Same to you, Matt!

noah counte 23. July 2008, 21:32

Thanks! Any excuse is a good excuse... But Raymond Chandler is worth a little extra. I might watch all three Warner Brothers versions of "The Maltese Falcon" in his honor.

edwardpiercy 23. July 2008, 21:34

You have the early one? The 1931 one? OMG!

Ya gotta burn me a copy of that.

noah counte 24. July 2008, 02:11

I've got the '31 version and a version from 1936 called "Satan Met A Lady," with Bette Davis. It turns the "Falcon" on it's ear, and is played mostly for laughs. It also has Arthur Treacher in it.

If I can figure out how to rip it. I'll send them your way.

edwardpiercy 24. July 2008, 03:04

Ah, I just remembered my cheap-ass Wal-Mart DVD player won't play ripped copies anyway. I've tried about four of my friend Sean's ripped ones and they all skip. I guess I'll just have to break down and buy it someday.

Arthur Treacher? So, Sam Spade and them all sat around eating Fish 'N' Chips? That's odd.

noah counte 24. July 2008, 13:04

 Same Arthur Treacher. The fish and chip chain was named for him, and he was its spokesman for some time. He played Jeeves in the Shirley Temple movies, and the Constable in "Mary Poppins." he even appeared in a couple of episodes of "The Beverly Hillbillies."

I_ArtMan 25. July 2008, 06:07

i just don't know why they just don't make 'em like that anymore. must we always dig back for impressions? even james bond... ian fleming. so simple, so gripping. and sherlock holmes... staying up all night reading with a flashlight under the covers... what is that interesting now?

also, i just want to go on record as saying, "the book is almost always better." hola amigos

noah counte 25. July 2008, 13:41

Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle was a genius.

As for books and movies; whenever I wish to prove your point, Scott, that movies are better than books, I point at "The Princess Bride," which is a pretty good movie, but is a phenomonal book (which I've read at least once a year every year since I was 12. I've since lost or given away my deluxe first edition, but I have several copies of it in paperback).

edwardpiercy 25. July 2008, 17:52

It's hard to squeeze into a two hour movie all that you can cover in a book. It's like the difference between spending three days in some foreign country as opposed to living there for six months.

They do a good job with translations occasionally. "The Name Of the Rose" I would never have thought possible to turn into a movie, but they did it, and it turned out to be a very good translation -- and in fact the fire in the library scene at the end was better than the book -- with Sean Connery dropping the few books he could save out of his robes, looking down at them...and you knew in his face all that had been lost. Ecco didn't write that. They just threw it in.

noah counte 25. July 2008, 18:46

Interesting how much more you can show with imagery, and how much is lost without words. Crazy, ironic world, eh?

edwardpiercy 25. July 2008, 19:14

Very true. It's like that old question -- "Would you rather be blind or deaf?" -- well, hopefully, neither.

There is theater. In that you have both words and imagery. Like a good performance of Shakespeare.

Which I suppose would lead us into film versions of Shakespeare -- Ha!

I_ArtMan 26. July 2008, 07:15

shakespeare in love... not shakespeare, but eminently entertaining.

lokutus_prime 27. July 2008, 23:32

Edward - you know I always enjoy visiting and reading your pages - sometimes I 'overstay' and try to fill up my comment box to an extent that makes me temporarily forget I am not on my own pages and must not monopolize space
...but always...always... I come away having learned something new from you
and I feel constantly privileged and enriched through this experience.

ya c wot i'm sayin? i jis caint stop writin here - mus b orl th magic u stir up

edwardpiercy 27. July 2008, 23:44

"ya c wot i'm sayin?"

Evidently, putting the jizzle in my bezizzle or something like that.

Thank you. Always a pleasure.

lokutus_prime 27. July 2008, 23:57

qlue 31. July 2008, 06:33

Zulia 30. June 2009, 14:50

Hullo there!
I like your blog and writing! Do you mind if I 'bury my head' in the books around here?

edwardpiercy 30. June 2009, 17:02

Not at all. That's what it's for. (Well, that and the tax rightoffs. )
